Second Taxiway To Allow Direct Aircraft Access To Mihan Units
Nagpur: Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) plans to earmark around 400 acres of land in Mihan-SEZ exclusively for investors from the aviation sector. To attract more players, MADC plans to build a second taxiway in the zone, using which an aircraft can be straightaway taken inside the units. There is a vacant patch of land which the MADC plans to keep for aviation companies, said a sources. "The taxiway will be a link between runway and the area outside the airport. It would enable bringing aircraft right to the new units' doorstep or take the planes to the runway from there," said a source. The proposed taxiway may be around 1,000 to 1,500 metres long. It would also be linked to the existing taxiway, which is around 1,800 metres long, said sources. MADC has invited tenders from private players for the project. The first taxiway connects Air India and Indamer Aviation's maintenance repair overhaul (MRO) depots in Mihan, as well as Dhirubhai Ambani Aerospace Park (DAAP) area. The planes landing at the Nagpur airport can be straightaway taxied to these units, said a source. The new taxiway is expected to be one of the factors that may attract more aviation players into Mihan. The proposed taxiway would be close to the Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) MRO and TAAL unit, a source said. MADC, the state govt agency and developer of the Mihan-SEZ — is also projecting the zone as a destination for aviation sector industries. Dassault Reliance Aviation Limited (DRAL) — a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure and France's Dassault — has already announced its plans to roll out Falcon business jet from its unit in Nagpur. As AIESL and Indamer cater to the maintenance of aircraft, a taxiway is necessary to bring the planes onto their premises, said a source.

Pre-feasibility study begins for proposed greenfield airport near Maharashtra's Vadhavan Port
A pre-feasibility study for a greenfield airport proposed near the upcoming Vadhavan Port project in the Palghar district of Maharashtra began last week. It will study the conditions at the site, traffic projections, environmental factors, and viability of the project, and analyse potential integration with existing and future infrastructure developments, such as the Dedicated Freight Corridor and road connectivity to the port, said a Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd (MADC) officer The study, which will determine the progress of the airport, is expected to be completed in six to nine months, the officer added. MADC, working under the Maharashtra Government, has hired a joint venture of Grant Thornton and Nippon Koei India to conduct the study. The new airport is being developed to serve and supplement the deep-draft all-weather Vadhavan Port terminal, which is being built on the western coast of Maharashtra and located on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), according to an officer with the Vadhavan Port project. 'Once commissioned, it is anticipated to boost India's container handling ability by an estimated 23.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs),' an officer from MADC said. Authorities stated the new airport is being designed to cater to passenger as well as cargo requirements associated with the port and the neighbouring areas. It will also help offer air connectivity to industrial and warehousing belts in the area, including Bhiwandi and other logistics complexes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). 'The project is an integral part of a greater plan for building a multimodal logistics hub in the region. It encompasses the integration of rail, road, and air transport infrastructure supporting goods and people movement through Vadhavan Port. The airport will also alleviate congestion on current air and land transport links and enhance regional access,' said the officer. 'The final report will inform the government to decide on pursuing a detailed project report and subsequent approvals,' the officer stated. The Vadhavan Port project is being developed by the Vadhavan Port Project Ltd, a joint venture by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB). The Union Cabinet has given in-principle approval for the project and is at the planning and land acquisition stage.

Maha plans vertiports for air taxi ops across dists
Nagpur: In a bid to build infrastructure for operating air taxis across the districts, the state govt plans to set up vertiports at different locations. Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) — the state govt undertaking which developed the Mihan project in Nagpur — has been made the nodal agency for the project. Vertiports are the infrastructure that enables operation of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, also known as air taxis. The air taxis can take off without the use of a runway; however, they are technically different class of flying machines from a helicopter. As the name suggests, it can ferry passengers over shorter distances. The government resolution on the appointment of MADC as the nodal agency states that the development of vertiports is necessary for easing air travel in the country. Developing the infrastructure is also in line with the Centre's Smart City mission. The Centre's direction included setting up a committee that would coordinate with it on the development of vertiports, selection of sites, and regulatory ensuring compliance, says the GR. The idea is to include the setting up of vertiports in future urban planning as well as in the existing development plans. MADC has been mandated to coordinate with the concerned govt departments and stakeholders in the identification of sites, techno-economic viability, regulatory compliance, and final development of the project, says the GR. Air taxis are being developed in the country and are expected to be launched within a couple of years, depending on regulatory clearance. A number of aviation companies have invested in the project including Archer Aviation, which has joined hands with IndiGo Airlines for introducing air taxis in India. MADC, on the other hand, is the state govt agency for developing airports. At present, it has seven airports under it. The state govt committee for the vertiport development will be headed by the secretary, additional, or principal secretary of the general administration department (GAD). The members include the additional chief secretary, principal or chief secretaries of the urban development department, vice-chairman-cum-managing director of MADC, and collectors of the respective districts.

Flight path obstacles at Gadchiroli airport site prompts state to look for alternative
Nagpur: Too many obstacles in the flight path and prospects of further vertical growth in Gadchiroli city, given the development push, has prompted the state govt to look for an alternative site for its plan to build an airport in the Maoist-affected district. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) had planned the airport close to Gadchiroli city. The initial site covered four villages: Murkhada, Pulkhal, Kanori and Mudhja. MADC was appointed as the agency to acquire 229 acres of land for the project after the initial study was completed. The study revealed that there were a number of obstacles in the flight path, including building of an educational institute, a high-tension line, and a power plant chimney. If a flight path avoiding the obstacles was fixed at the same site, it would have increased the project cost by at least Rs150 crore, said sources. Rather, it is now decided to look for an alternative site. The city is expected to grow in the coming days, and the structures that come up may further obstruct the operations, said a source who is part of the project. A senior official in the district administration confirmed the development. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo MADC has intimated that a fresh site needs to be searched for the proposed airport. Now, a site slightly away from the city is being considered. Last week, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis issued directions to hold an obstacle limitation survey (OLS) for the airport. A source said this was meant for the fresh site. It would follow a pre-feasibility study of the airport at the new site. An airport has been proposed at Gadchiroli in view of the development in the district. Recently, Jindal Group announced plans to build the country's biggest integrated steel plant in the district. Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL), which operates an iron ore mine, also commissioned a 4 million tonnes pellet-making plant. This is part of LMEL's plans to build an integrated steel plant too. The third company, Surjagad Ispat, also plans to build a steel plant in south Gadchiroli. As per the airport plan, a 2,500-meter airstrip will be laid so that commercial planes can land in Gadchiroli. Having an airport will do away with the need for investors or businessmen to travel to Nagpur and take a road journey further to Gadchiroli, a source said. The four villages where the airport was earlier planned come under the Panchayats (Extension To Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA). The law gives autonomy to gram sabhas (village councils) on decisions related to the area. This means gram sabha approval would have been needed even for the airport.
