Tender announced for MBR Solar Park Phase VII
Sustainability Tender announced for MBR Solar Park Phase VII By The winning developer/developer consortium will share the ownership of the project, and the power generated by the plant will be purchased by the Dubai utility under a long-term PPA Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched a tender for the construction of Phase VII of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park, being implemented under the IPP model. According to DEWA, the winning developer/developer consortium will share ownership of the project, and the power generated by the plant will be purchased by the Dubai utility under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The project will have 1,600MWac to 2000MWac in solar photovoltaic aggregate capacity and will be connected to 1GW in battery storage (enough to provide six hours of ongoing storage throughout demand cycles). The Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is a cornerstone of Dubai's ambition to source 100% of its energy from clean sources by 2050, will be commissioned in phases starting August 2027. The seventh-phase integration of a 1,000MW battery energy storage system (BESS) will maximise renewable energy use and provide dispatchable clean power, ensuring Dubai's energy resilience. On completion, the solar park's total capacity will significantly surpass the original 5,000MW target, solidifying the UAE's position as a global hub for renewable energy innovation. The deadline for submitting the expressions of interest (EOIs) has been set at 21 March. Earlier this week, DEWA announced the appointment of a global consortium led by Deloitte as consultant for Phase VII of the Al Maktoum Solar Park. The consortium will provide end-to-end guidance to ensure the project's strategic alignment with national priorities, including UAE regulatory compliance, as well as advising on IPP tender documents and design, tender submissions management, commercial negotiations and financial structuring, as well as the finalisation of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and achieving complete financial closure. Additionally, Deloitte will spearhead global investor outreach through marketing, targeted road shows, workshops and training on the IPP concept, fostering international partnerships to accelerate Dubai's energy transition.

Deloitte-led consortium appointed as consultant for 7th phase of Dubai's MBR Solar Park
Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) announced on Wednesday the appointment of a global consortium led by Deloitte as consultant for the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park). Phase 7 will integrate 1,600 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity with 1,000MW battery energy storage system (BESS) marking one of the world's largest solar-plus-storage projects under the independent power producer (IPP) model, DEWA said in a press statement. The consortium will provide advisory services on regulatory compliance, IPP tender documents and design, tender submissions management, commercial negotiations, financial structuring, finalisation of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and financial closure. Additionally, Deloitte will spearhead a global investor outreach through marketing, targeted road shows, workshops and training on the IPP concept. The seventh phase will be commisioned in phases between 2027 and 2029, the statement said, adding that it position DEWA to exceed its original 5,000MW target by 2030 for the solar park well ahead of schedule. UAE leads MENA in renewable installed capacity at 6.3GW
The UAE has emerged as a leader in renewable energy with 6.3 gigawatts (GW) installed capacity, Dubai-based Dii Desert Energy said in a report. Egypt and Saudi Arabia follow with 4.6 GW and 4.5 GW installed capacities. The UAE has achieved more installed capacity than Egypt with fewer than half the projects, mainly due to the impact of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park), significantly contributing to the country's renewable energy capacity. Overall, the current installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity stands at 22.3 GW in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. At the end of 2024, the Dii database reported more than 700 projects, greater than 5 megawatts (MW), at various stages of development. Of these 714 projects, 467 are operational, 47 are under construction, 89 projects are in the development phase and an additional 90 have been announced. On the construction phase, Saudi Arabia leads with a series of large-scale projects, including Al Shuaiba 2, the largest project to date with 2,030 megawatts (MW). Oman is also set to significantly increase its capacity this year, with the Manah 1 and 2 projects, each having a capacity of 500 MW, the entity said. (Writing by P Deol; Editing by Anoop Menon)
