KUALA LUMPUR: The Metaltech and Automex 2025 event which began yesterday is expected to showcase a new era of smart and green manufacturing. Themed, 'Sustainable manufacturing: from smart solutions to AI innovations', the trade show at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) will be held until May 17. It will feature more than 1,500 exhibitors and brands from 40 countries including Germany, South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Singapore. It was organised by Informa Markets Malaysia and is expected to draw more than 20,000 trade visitors. Participants will have the opportunity to view more than 5,000 advanced technologies on display including CNC machinery, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things, smart sensors, and energy-efficient manufacturing systems. They will also have the opportunity to watch live product demonstrations, attend technical seminars and knowledge sharing forums. This year's event also witnessed a strategic collaboration with the co-location of the Advanced Machinery and Engineering Summit (AMES) 2025, an initiative by the Machinery and Engineering Industries Federation (MEIF). The collaboration is aimed at strengthening the link between technological innovation and policy discourse, further accelerating industrial transformation across the region. MEIF president Mac Ngan Boon said AMES' launch was not to duplicate existing activities but create space for focused dialogues, sharper insight and coordinated action. Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd (MIDF) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat emphasised on the importance of financial tools and partnerships to bring industrial innovation to life. 'MIDF supports this national agenda by empowering small and medium enterprises and manufacturers across key sectors including machinery, engineering, and automation to adopt modern, advanced technologies and upgrade their capabilities,' he said. According to Abdul Rahman, there has been a fundamental change in how industries operate, namely driven by automation, data, AI and smart manufacturing. 'These transformations are reshaping global supply chains and redefining industrial competitiveness and this is something we should not miss out on,' he noted. Informa Markets Malaysia country general manager Gerard Leeuwenburgh stressed on the role of sustainability in shaping future industry standards. 'Sustainability is no longer a trend, it's a necessity. From energy-efficient machinery and low-waste production methods to sustainable material sourcing and circular design, the innovations we are seeing across the show floor proved that going green is not just good for the planet but for businesses as well,' he said. Meanwhile, organisers are looking forward to the 30th anniversary of Metaltech and Automex which will be held from May 20 to May 23, 2025 at Mitec. 'This milestone event promises to be the biggest and boldest edition yet, spotlighting three decades of breakthroughs, partnerships, and progress that have shaped Malaysia's industrial landscape.' Subsequently, the International Automation Technology Exhibition will debut as a standalone event in Penang from Nov 4 to Nov 6, 2025. 'After more than 14 years of co-location with Metaltech, this expansion reflects Automex's growing influence and the rising demand for smart automation, robotics, AI, and machine vision technologies, especially in Malaysia's northern manufacturing corridor,' Informa markets said.
