Internationally acclaimed musician to perform in Machynlleth
An internationally acclaimed musician is set to perform at this year's Machynlleth Festival. Felix Klieser, a French horn player born without arms, will appear as part of the festival's line-up in Mid Wales. His story is one of remarkable talent and determination, having been born to a non-musical family but falling in love with the French horn at the age of five. Despite being encouraged to try other instruments, Mr Klieser insisted: "If it's not possible to learn the French horn, then I will play nothing." He went on to develop a unique technique, using his left foot to press the horn's valves. Mr Klieser said: "85 per cent of playing is about your lips, about the air stream, about controlling everything. "This is the main thing in playing the French horn – and using the keys is not that difficult, I would say." His career has included the release of a debut album in 2013, a UK performance in 2021, and a standout appearance at the BBC Proms in 2023. He will perform in Wales at MOMA Machynlleth on August 23, in a lunchtime concert featuring works by Schumann and Beethoven. He will be joined by Anglesey-born pianist Jâms Coleman. Tickets are priced at £15, £10 for students, and free for under-18s. They can be booked through the festival website at or by calling 01654 703355.
