F1 Legends' McLarens to Cross the Block at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este

⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious In an unprecedented pairing of motorsport prestige and supercar excellence, Broad Arrow Auctions will offer two McLaren MP4-12C models formerly owned by Formula One World Champions Sir Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button at the inaugural Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este Auction this May. Each car represents a cornerstone of McLaren Automotive's modern era and a direct connection to the championship-winning insights of two of the sport's most revered drivers. The MP4-12C marked McLaren's return to production supercars following the legacy of the F1, with Hamilton and Button providing critical feedback during its development. Hamilton's Volcano Red MP4-12C, chassis number SBM11AAB4CW000132, was delivered to the seven-time World Champion in 2012. With just 8,500 kilometers and an interior finished in Harissa Red leather and Black Alcantara, the car features numerous bespoke options including carbon fiber exterior accents and a rare swipe-to-open door function. Configured personally at McLaren's Woking headquarters, it reflects Hamilton's vision of a driver-focused supercar. Meanwhile, Button's Elite Pearl White MP4-12C, chassis SBM11AAB4CW000764, carries just 12,000 kilometers and comes with a right-hand drive configuration. Originally specified in consultation with McLaren Monaco, it boasts Harissa Red and Black leather, carbon interior trim, and the understated elegance befitting the 2009 World Champion. 'These are not just any MP4-12Cs,' said Joe Twyman, Broad Arrow's EMEA VP of Sales. 'They are the personal cars of two Formula One icons who helped shape the model itself.' Offered with estimates of €175,000–€225,000 for Hamilton's car and €125,000–€150,000 for Button's, these MP4-12Cs fuse automotive innovation with motorsport history—an irresistible opportunity for collectors at the famed Villa d'Este auction.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button Both Owned McLarens. Now the Supercars Are Heading to Auction.

The MP4-12C, launched in 2011, set the template for modern McLaren supercars, and now two of them—one each formerly owned by F1 champions Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton—are heading to auction. The cars are expected to fetch up to a combined half-million dollars, according to Broad Arrow's estimates. Hamilton's 2012 MP4-12C could hammer down for slightly more than Button's, or around $300,000 compared to $200,000, respectively. In Hamilton's case, that meant choosing the Volcano Red paint and all the carbon fiber on the outside, including on the spoiler, mirror casings, and diffuser. The race car driver also chose tinted windows, installed after the car rolled off the factory floor. Inside, he opted for red and black upholstery and even more carbon fiber. The interior trim and steering wheel were untouched, according to Broad Arrow, though the MP4-12C's steering wheel was already designed like Hamilton's, and thinned to account for the thickness of his gloves. The car was to be delivered at the time to Hamilton's home in Switzerland but was ultimately delivered to Hamilton's home in Monaco. His MP4-12C was later sold to an owner in France's Côte d'Azur. That owner, Broad Arrow says, drove 'the important McLaren sparingly' and also completed 'commission consistent maintenance by McLaren Monaco since 2012.' The car has 8,938 kilometers on the odometer, or around 5,553 miles. Button's MP4-12C, meanwhile, is actually the second he configured, after the first, a black example, was never delivered because he gave it back to McLaren to aid development. Button's second configured MP4-12C is painted in Elite Pearl White and, similarly, has lots of carbon fiber everywhere that was specified by the 2009 Formula 1 champion. The car's interior is also red and black, though Button went for leather instead of Alcantara. The interior of Button's MP4-12C also has more carbon fiber than Hamilton's with the trim made of carbon fiber and the steering wheel. Button's was also eventually sold to a new owner, who Broad Arrow identifies as a British collector who bought the car in 2013. Button's MP4-12C has been 'recently' serviced at McLaren Monaco, but has more time on the road, or 12,438 kilometers (7,728 miles) on the odometer. The increased use of Button's MP4-12C, along with his slightly lesser star power than the still-active Hamilton, likely accounts for most of the discrepancy in the two cars' estimated prices. Hamilton and Button's McLaren MP4-12Cs head to auction in Italy

Two early McLaren MP4-12Cs, once owned by British Formula One champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, will go under the hammer at Broad Arrow's inaugural Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este Auction in Italy on May 24–25. Developed with input from both drivers during their time at McLaren, the MP4-12C signalled the British carmaker's return to road-going supercars in 2010 — the first since the legendary McLaren F1 of the 1990s. The model introduced a new era for McLaren Automotive, combining in-house engineering with insight drawn from the track. At the time, Hamilton and Button were racing for McLaren in Formula One and played an active role in shaping the MP4-12C's driving dynamics. Hamilton, for instance, requested revisions to the steering wheel and paddle shifters to better mirror the feel of his F1 car. In recognition of their contributions, McLaren CEO Ron Dennis presented each driver with a car configured to their personal preferences. Hamilton's MP4-12C Estimate: €175,000 to €225,000 (R3.7m to R4.8m) Registered in March 2012, Hamilton's MP4-12C was originally delivered to Switzerland, then relocated to Monaco after his move there. The car includes several bespoke features, including carbon fibre detailing on the front splitter, rear diffuser and mirrors, as well as the factory Stealth Pack and dark grey five-spoke wheels. It also features the early 'swipe' door mechanism, a design later phased out in production. It has 8,500km on the clock. Hamilton used the car while living in Monaco and notably drove it to Cannes for a music video shoot with American rapper Swizz Beatz. The vehicle reflects his direct involvement in its design and setup, making it a rare example of a Formula One champion's personal road car. Button's MP4-12C Estimate: €125,000 to €150,000 (R2.7m to R3.2m) – offered without reserve Button's MP4-12C was his second, after the original was returned to McLaren for ongoing development work. He chose an Elite Pearl White finish, paired with a two-tone Harissa Red and black leather interior. The car also features carbon fibre interior trim and a custom steering wheel. Delivered through McLaren Monaco, Button's car was sold into a UK private collection in 2012, where it has remained. With less than 12,000km on the odometer and a full maintenance history from McLaren's dealer network, it has been carefully preserved. With both cars carrying direct ties to two of the most successful drivers in recent F1 history, Broad Arrow's Villa d'Este auction is expected to draw strong interest from collectors and motorsport fans alike.
