CM calls for low-cost housing to check slum spread

Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday directed officials to prepare a detailed plan for affordable housing in urban areas to curb the unchecked expansion of slums. He said the strategy must take into account the socio-economic condition of residents, and ensure housing projects are both accessible and convenient. Emphasising the need for environmental improvement in urban regions, he said parks must be developed and tree plantations should be promoted in all housing projects including those undertaken by development authorities and the housing board. Besides, Yadav instructed that a comprehensive survey be conducted of illegal constructions around Bhopal's Upper Lake, and a campaign be launched for action against it. He was reviewing works of the urban development and housing department at Samatva Bhavan here. The CM said reputed national-level builders and colonisers should be involved in colony development. He also stressed the need for immediate modernisation of fire services to manage emergencies in both urban and industrial areas.
