Time of India2 days ago
Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday directed officials to prepare a detailed plan for affordable housing in urban areas to curb the unchecked expansion of slums. He said the strategy must take into account the socio-economic condition of residents, and ensure housing projects are both accessible and convenient.
Emphasising the need for environmental improvement in urban regions, he said parks must be developed and tree plantations should be promoted in all housing projects including those undertaken by development authorities and the housing board.
Besides, Yadav instructed that a comprehensive survey be conducted of illegal constructions around Bhopal's Upper Lake, and a campaign be launched for action against it.
He was reviewing works of the urban development and housing department at Samatva Bhavan here.
The CM said reputed national-level builders and colonisers should be involved in colony development. He also stressed the need for immediate modernisation of fire services to manage emergencies in both urban and industrial areas.
A proposal to introduce the "Namo Train" service should be prepared to expand intra-city rail connectivity.

Yadav said he would soon hold discussions with railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to seek support in this regard. Yadav instructed that priority be given to providing housing facilities to 'Ladli Behnas'.
Directions were issued to urban bodies to take prompt action in organising meat and fish vendors and allotting suitable spaces for their operations. Highlighting the importance of a clean urban environment, the CM said reserved land in cities should be identified and developed into city forests (nagar vans).
Urban development & housing minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said an integrated development plan was being prepared for religious and tourist towns. He added that the MP Housing Board has been instructed to explore redevelopment (re-densification) projects in the state.

Alligator Alcatraz sparks backlash, nearly half of Americans disapprove of controversial facility

A new migrant detention center in the Florida Everglades, called " Alligator Alcatraz ," is making people all over the country very angry. Some conservatives like how it protects wildlife by keeping people away from it, but critics say it is cruel and dystopian. The ICE detention center in Florida, which some call "Alligator Alcatraz," is getting a lot of negative press. Almost half of Americans are against it because of the harsh conditions and the fact that it is in a remote area protected by wildlife. Recently, US President Donald Trump executed one of his most outrageous immigration tactics. He has established an alligator-guarded migrant detention facility in Florida's Everglades that is unlike any other, as per a report by The Independent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo Why is 'Alligator Alcatraz' controversial? "Alligator Alcatraz," a controversial migrant detention center in Florida's Everglades that is protected by native swamp predators, was unveiled by President Trump. Live Events The project, which Trump defends as a powerful border deterrent, has angered human rights and environmental organizations. The new Everglades detention facility was endorsed by only one-third of survey participants. ALSO READ: Trump underwater in every key swing state, and now he's slipping in Texas too What do Americans really think about the facility? A new poll shows that people aren't as excited. The YouGov survey, which was completed by 2,983 people on Thursday, found that 48 percent of respondents were against the facility, while only 33 percent were in favor of it and another 18 percent were not sure. Despite the fact that Republicans and Democrats were mainly divided along party lines, only 26% of respondents who considered themselves independent voters supported the plan, compared to 53% who opposed it, as per a report by The Independent. Another significant conclusion from the YouGov survey was that, according to 47 percent of Americans, ICE is treating detainees too brutally, while 23 percent indicated that they are receiving acceptable treatment, 10 percent stated that they are not receiving harsh enough treatment, and the remaining respondents are undecided, as per a report by The Independent. The facility was announced last month by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, who said that because of its remote location, which is home to dangerous wildlife like pythons and alligators, it would require little extra security. In a social media post on Monday, far-right activist Laura Loomer criticized the facility, writing: "Alligator lives matter." The good news is that if we start now, at least 65 million meals for alligators are assured. Commentators on X were incensed by the figure, which seemed to be a reference to the total number of Latinos in the US and matched data from the U.S. Census for the group. Donald Trump himself expressed that he wouldn't want to run through the Everglades for an extended period of time, seemingly impressed by the danger the local wildlife posed. During the trip, he also suggested deporting criminals in the United States, implied that the "Alligator Alcatraz" might be the first of many more detention facilities, and threatened to arrest a few people. Who has supported "Alligator Alcatraz"? Conservatives on Fox News have also embraced the detention center; in a recent interview, Laura Ingraham told DeSantis that she "loved" the idea, and panelists on the network's Gutfeld! chat show who discussed it said they also enjoyed the idea. Particularly excited was comedian Joe Devito, who proposed that the government go one step further and equip it with grizzly bears and an "evil squid" to use its tentacles to frisk prisoners. FAQs Why are they calling it "Alligator Alcatraz"? The facility is situated in the Everglades, surrounded by dangerous wildlife such as gators and pythons. Officials claim it requires minimal security because no one can escape. Do people support or reject the plan? A YouGov poll found that 48% of Americans oppose the facility, 33% support it, and the majority of independents reject the idea entirely.

Kangana Ranaut on way to Mandi to visit rain-ravaged areas

BJP 's Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut on Saturday was on her way to the flash floods- and landslide-hit areas of the Himachal Pradesh district, a day after the Congress took potshots that the state party leadership was riled by her absence. As many as 14 people have died and search is on for 31 missing people, as cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides caused massive destruction in Mandi district on Tuesday. Union Health Minister JP Nadda, when asked during a press conference on Saturday about Ranaut's absence from her constituency during the tragedy, said that she will visit Mandi soon. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Shapoorji BKC 9 – Live at Mumbai's Power Hub Shapoorji Pallonji BKC 9 Enquire Now Undo The actor-turned-politician also wrote in an X post on Friday, "I am on my way to Himachal Pradesh, I will be visiting the affected areas soon. Please be rest assured that I stand with Himachal Pradesh in every situation." The post followed the ruling Congress' dig at the BJP over Ranaut's comment that she has not visited the cloudburst-affected areas of Mandi on the "advice" of state party leader and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur . Live Events In an earlier X post on Friday, Ranaut had said, "It is heartbreaking to see massive flood devastation in Himachal almost every year now. I tried reaching the flood-affected areas in Seraj and other areas in Mandi, but was advised by the respected Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur to wait until the connectivity to the affected areas is restored." On Thursday, Thakur had parried questions about the MP's absence from the calamity-hit region, saying, "We are concerned about the locals, we live and die for them. Cannot comment on those who are not." "Red alert is issued by Mandi DC today as well. Awaiting authorities' approval on the same; will be there as soonest possible," Ranaut had said after Thakur's comments. Latching on to the remark, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday jibed that Ranaut should speak to Thakur as the leader of the opposition was "getting angry".

Takht Patna Sahib declares Sukhbir Badal ‘tankhaiya': Accused of ignoring summons; role in religious row

File photo NEW DELHI: Takht Sri Patna Sahib, one of the five main Sikh religious seats, has declared Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal a 'tankhaiya'. The term refers to someone found guilty of religious wrongdoing. The decision was announced by Jathedar and head granthi Giani Baldev Singh in Patna on Saturday. "Sukhbir Singh Badal is declared 'tankhaiya' for being found guilty of ignoring the orders of the 'Panj Pyare Singh Sahibs' of Takht Sri Patna Sahib," the directive said. According to Takht Patna Sahib's directive, Badal was a conspirator in the recent conflict involving different Sikh religious authorities. He was summoned three times but did not appear. The directive stated that his absence clearly pointed to his involvement in the controversy. The dispute began on May 21, when the Akal Takht barred Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Baldev Singh and another granthi from performing their religious duties. Takht Patna Sahib responded by declaring the Akal Takht Jathedar and Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar 'tankhaiya', and also summoned Badal for his alleged role in the matter. He said it was beyond the jurisdiction of Takht Patna Sahib and could create confusion within the Sikh community. Dhami stressed that while Takht Patna Sahib is highly respected, only the Akal Takht has the authority to decide on issues concerning the wider Sikh community. He warned that undermining the Akal Takht could cause serious damage to Sikh traditions and unity. He called for resolution through mutual dialogue and said the Sikh community's energy should be directed towards collective growth and the promotion of Sikh values, not internal disputes. Badal was earlier declared 'tankhaiya' by the Akal Takht in Amritsar in August last year, and later in December was given religious punishment for mistakes linked to the Akali Dal government's rule in Punjab from 2007 to 2017.
