4 villages get vacuum tankers from Seechewal
Ludhiana: MP and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal Monday provided vacuum tankers to four villages in the district using his MPLAD fund. It will benefit Bhukhri Khurd, Bhamia Khurd, Amar Colony, and Guru Ramdas Colony. Earlier, dairy waste and cow dung from these villages would flow directly into the Buddha Dariya. With the vacuum tankers, the wastewater will now be collected and disposed of in open fields, thereby preventing the Buddha Dariya from getting polluted. A grant of Rs 15 lakh was allocated for the tankers, which were formally handed over to the sarpanch of the villages in a ceremony attended by the MP, Buddhewal sugar mill chairman Zora Singh Mundian, and mayor Inderjit Kaur Gill. Sarpanch Satpal Singh of Bhukhri Khurd village, Balwinder Singh Virk of Guru Ramdas Nagar Colony, Kulwant Singh of Bhamia Khurd, and Rajinder Singh Hundal of Amar Colony thanked Seechewal for the initiative. Seechewal said, "The Buddha Dariya belongs to all Punjabis, and it is our collective duty to keep it clean. This river has been blessed by Guru Nanak, which makes it as sacred as the Holy Bein. That is why it is being cleaned with the same reverence and dedication."

After High Command whip: Congress MLAs told to be at forefront of every protest against govt, irrespective of strength
Over the last one year, since the constitution of the 18th Lok Sabha, the 26 Lower House Parliamentarians from Gujarat have utilised only Rs 10.72 crore out of the total Rs 254.8 crore – a mere 4.2% – allocated to them under the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme, according to a report from Gujarat-based voluntary organisation Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel (MAGP). No expenditure has been made so far under the MPLAD scheme in Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, Banaskantha, Chhota Udepur, Gandhinagar and Navsari parliamentary constituencies, the report added. In Gujarat, out of the total 26 Lok Sabha seats, 25 are being represented by Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Opposition Congress has only one seat – Banaskantha. The report was released on Wednesday by Secretary of MAGP Pankti Jog while analysing the data — as on July 5, 2025 — from the official portal for MPLAD Scheme. The 18th Lok Sabha was constituted in June last year. Under the MPLAD Scheme, each Parliamentarian is allocated Rs 5 crore per year for development works in their constituency. According to the MPLAD 2023 guidelines, various types of works related to public welfare and development can be undertaken. These include public health, education, construction of public and community buildings, drinking water and sanitation, irrigation, drainage, flood-control protective structures, animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries, agriculture and farmer welfare, energy supply and distribution systems, as well as works related to railways, roads, bridges, etc. While only 4.2% of the allocated budget has been spent, Bharuch, Patan and Sabarkantha parliamentary constituencies top the list in terms of expenditure done. Bharuch has spent Rs 1.73 crore followed by Patan with Rs 1.56 crore and Sabarkantha, which spent Rs 1.08 crore. Bharuch, Patan and Sabarkantha constituencies are being represented by BJP MPs Mansukh Vasava, Bharatsinh Dabhi and Shobhnaben Baraiya, respectively. While releasing the analytic report, MAGP stated, 'A notable point is that even though one year has passed since the 18th Lok Sabha was formed, no expenditure has been made so far under MPLAD funds in the Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, Banaskantha, Chhota Udepur, Gandhinagar, and Navsari parliamentary constituencies.' Ahmedabad East is represented by Hasmukh Patel, Ahmedabad West by Dinesh Makwana, Banaskantha by Geniben Thakore, Chhota Udepur by Jashubhai Rathva, Gandhinagar by Amit Shah, and Navsari constituency by C R Patil. The report has also analysed the number of works recommended by the MPs. As per the report, Navsari MP C R Paatil has recommended a maximum 297 works followed by Mehsana MP Haribhai Patel (271 works) and Kheda MP Devusinh Chauhan (265 works). Banaskantha MP Thakor has recommended least number of works (26) followed by Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah (36) and Bhavnagar Parliamentarian Nimuben Bambhaniya (37). The report said that out of the total 3,823 works recommended by the MPs, only 93 have been completed. In Bardoli constituency, the maximum number (21) of recommended works have been completed followed by Mehsana (20) and Bharuch (12). The Bardoli seat is represented by Prabhu Vasava while Mehsana has Haribhai Patel as its MP. 'As per the guidelines, the approval process for works recommended by an MP should be completed within 45 days. However, scrutiny of available data reveals that out of a total of 3,823 recommended works, only 93 works have been completed,' the MAGP said in a statement. During the year, out of 26 constituencies, no work has been completed in 14 constituencies, it added.

Gujarat MPs spent just 4.2% of local area development funds: Report
SLUG: IN OVER A YEAR Gandhinagar: Over a year since the 18th Lok Sabha was constituted, Members of Parliament (MPs) from Gujarat have utilised only 4.2% of their allocated local area development funds, raising serious questions about the pace of grassroots development work in the state. According to a report by Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel (MAGP)—an organisation working to promote transparency and accountability—no development work was completed in 14 out of 26 Lok Sabha constituencies of Gujarat since the new Lok Sabha came into existence in June 2024. You Can Also Check: Ahmedabad AQI | Weather in Ahmedabad | Bank Holidays in Ahmedabad | Public Holidays in Ahmedabad Under the MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) scheme, each MP is allotted Rs 5 crore annually to support public welfare and infrastructure projects in their constituency. For Gujarat's 26 MPs, this amounts to a collective allocation of Rs 254.8 crore. However, by July 5, only Rs 10.72 crore had been spent. The Bharuch constituency recorded the highest utilisation at Rs 1.73 crore, followed by Patan with Rs 1.56 crore, and Sabarkantha with Rs 1.08 crore. In sharp contrast, zero spending was reported in key constituencies such as Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, Banaskantha, Chhota Udepur, Gandhinagar, and Navsari. The MAGP report, citing data from the official MPLAD scheme portal, highlights the stark underutilisation of funds that could otherwise be used for critical projects including public health, education, sanitation, irrigation, flood control, energy, agriculture, and infrastructure such as roads and bridges. Pointers: Implementation in a year - Navsari constituency has the highest number of recommendations (297 works), followed by Mehsana constituency (271 works) and Kheda constituency (265 works). - Out of a total of 3,823 recommended works, only 93 works have been completed - No work was completed in 14 of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state Box: Lack of Transparency Pankti Jog of MAGP said that the MPLAD portal only provides details of the allocated budget, expenditure incurred, and the number of works. "Analysis of how much fund was used by which MP in which specific area or sector is not available on the portal," Jog said. She added that on the earlier portal, MPs themselves could see details like the number of works they recommended which started, how many received technical approval, and how many were rejected. These details are now not available on the portal, she added.

Gujarat MPs deliver disappointment as 96% of MPLAD funds remain unspent
AHMEDABAD: Despite voters' hopes and a hefty development fund at their disposal, Gujarat's 26 MPs have spent only 4.2% of their allocated MPLAD funds over the past year. Alarmingly, not a single development project has been completed in 14 out of 26 parliamentary constituencies, exposing a serious governance gap. Gujarat's Members of Parliament have failed to even scratch the surface of their development responsibility. A staggering 95.8% of the Rs 254.8 crore allocated under the MPLAD Scheme remains unutilised, as per data accessed by NGO Mahiti Adhikar Pahel till July 5, 2025. The MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) Scheme grants every MP Rs 5 crore per year to carry out development works in their constituencies, ranging from roads and sanitation to irrigation and public health. Yet, in the first year of the 18th Lok Sabha, barely Rs 10.72 crore has been spent in total across Gujarat.

Odisha: BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi to build coaching institutes with
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], June 19 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi will be building coaching institutes, which double as a library and reading centre in Odisha's Khorda district will be funded through a newly devised 'convergence model' for proper utilisation of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division (MPLAD) funds. Sarangi said that she will also be teaching at these institutes on a volunteer basis. Under the convergence model devised with the Khordha District Collector, half or more of the funds needed for development projects will be provided through MPLAD, and the other half will come from various central and state government schemes. 'I have devised a convergence model to properly utilise MPLADs (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division) funds. We have decided to build a coaching institute that doubles as a library and reading centre, each in the eight blocks under my constituency. Each will cost Rs 53 lakh. Rs 30 lakh have been contributed through MPLADs by me. The remaining Rs 23 lakh will come from four different central and state government schemes, contributed by the DC,' Sarangi told ANI on Wednesday. The BJP MP has also said that she wants to build libraries in each of the 156 Panchayats in her constituency, with half of the cost being given through MPLAD and the other half funded through schemes. 'Additionally, we want a library worth Rs 10 lakh in each of the 156 Panchayats under my constituency... I would contribute Rs 5 lakh, and the DC will contribute the remaining Rs 5 lakh from different schemes... The local youth organisations or senior citizens welfare organisations will manage these libraries... All of this will be free of cost... Once this project is successful, we will document it properly. It should be a model at the national level,' she said. Under the MPLAD schemes, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs.5 Crores per annum to be taken up in his/her constituency. Notably, the Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament can recommend works in one or more districts in the State from where he/she has been elected. (ANI)
