After High Command whip: Congress MLAs told to be at forefront of every protest against govt, irrespective of strength
No expenditure has been made so far under the MPLAD scheme in Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, Banaskantha, Chhota Udepur, Gandhinagar and Navsari parliamentary constituencies, the report added. In Gujarat, out of the total 26 Lok Sabha seats, 25 are being represented by Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Opposition Congress has only one seat – Banaskantha.
The report was released on Wednesday by Secretary of MAGP Pankti Jog while analysing the data — as on July 5, 2025 — from the official portal for MPLAD Scheme.
The 18th Lok Sabha was constituted in June last year. Under the MPLAD Scheme, each Parliamentarian is allocated Rs 5 crore per year for development works in their constituency.
According to the MPLAD 2023 guidelines, various types of works related to public welfare and development can be undertaken. These include public health, education, construction of public and community buildings, drinking water and sanitation, irrigation, drainage, flood-control protective structures, animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries, agriculture and farmer welfare, energy supply and distribution systems, as well as works related to railways, roads, bridges, etc.
While only 4.2% of the allocated budget has been spent, Bharuch, Patan and Sabarkantha parliamentary constituencies top the list in terms of expenditure done. Bharuch has spent Rs 1.73 crore followed by Patan with Rs 1.56 crore and Sabarkantha, which spent Rs 1.08 crore. Bharuch, Patan and Sabarkantha constituencies are being represented by BJP MPs Mansukh Vasava, Bharatsinh Dabhi and Shobhnaben Baraiya, respectively.
While releasing the analytic report, MAGP stated, 'A notable point is that even though one year has passed since the 18th Lok Sabha was formed, no expenditure has been made so far under MPLAD funds in the Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, Banaskantha, Chhota Udepur, Gandhinagar, and Navsari parliamentary constituencies.'
Ahmedabad East is represented by Hasmukh Patel, Ahmedabad West by Dinesh Makwana, Banaskantha by Geniben Thakore, Chhota Udepur by Jashubhai Rathva, Gandhinagar by Amit Shah, and Navsari constituency by C R Patil.
The report has also analysed the number of works recommended by the MPs.
As per the report, Navsari MP C R Paatil has recommended a maximum 297 works followed by Mehsana MP Haribhai Patel (271 works) and Kheda MP Devusinh Chauhan (265 works). Banaskantha MP Thakor has recommended least number of works (26) followed by Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah (36) and Bhavnagar Parliamentarian Nimuben Bambhaniya (37).
The report said that out of the total 3,823 works recommended by the MPs, only 93 have been completed. In Bardoli constituency, the maximum number (21) of recommended works have been completed followed by Mehsana (20) and Bharuch (12). The Bardoli seat is represented by Prabhu Vasava while Mehsana has Haribhai Patel as its MP.
'As per the guidelines, the approval process for works recommended by an MP should be completed within 45 days. However, scrutiny of available data reveals that out of a total of 3,823 recommended works, only 93 works have been completed,' the MAGP said in a statement.
During the year, out of 26 constituencies, no work has been completed in 14 constituencies, it added.

CPI backs protest against transfer of APSRTC land to Lulu group
VIJAYAWADA: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K Ramakrishna has called on citizens to unite in opposing the transfer of public lands to private entities, particularly the lease of the APSRTC old bus stand (Governorpet depot) in Vijayawada to the Lulu Group. Speaking at a roundtable meeting held at Dasari Bhavan under the CPI city committee's leadership, Ramakrishna extended CPI's support to the Citizens' Forum protest scheduled for August 6. He criticised the State government's decision to lease 4.15 acres of the Vijayawada bus stand, valued at approximately Rs 400 crore in the open market, and 13.7 acres in Visakhapatnam to the multinational company for 99 years at a nominal rate. Ramakrishna demanded the immediate withdrawal of G.O. No. 137, calling the move exploitative and questioning the government's motives in transferring public assets to private players. Former Mayor Jandhyala Shankar said the lease violated Supreme Court rulings and must be reversed. YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu, CPM's Donepudi Kashinath, and Congress city president Naraharisetti Narasimharao warned that the move could damage small businesses, increase unemployment, and cause environmental and traffic issues. The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution demanding a halt to the land transfers and prioritising local business, environmental protection, and public interests over corporate expansion.

Delhi Assembly adopts E-Vidhan system, turns fully solar-powered ahead of Monsoon Session
NEW DELHI: A day ahead of the Monsoon Session, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Sunday inaugurated the E-Vidhan (paperless assembly) system and a 500 kW solar power plant at the Delhi Legislative Assembly Complex. With this, all legislative work in the Delhi Assembly will now be conducted digitally, enhancing the pace and quality of policymaking. The solar initiative is expected to generate savings of up to Rs 15 lakh per month, roughly Rs 1.75 crore annually, and is projected to recover its cost quickly while potentially generating surplus electricity through net metering. The E-Vidhan platform complements this transition by enabling a paperless legislative process, promoting administrative efficiency and cutting down the institution's carbon footprint. Speaking at the inauguration, Meghwal described the project as a model for sustainable governance across India. He said Delhi Assembly's complete shift to solar energy sets a benchmark for legislative and public institutions nationwide. Crediting the progress to PM Narendra Modi's leadership, he said, 'Sustainability, self-reliance, and digital empowerment are moving together.' He also announced the launch of NeVA (National e-Vidhan Application) at the Delhi Assembly under the 'One Nation, One Application' initiative of Digital India 2.0, stating that the move signifies not just an infrastructure upgrade, but a shift in institutional values. 'The full implementation of the E-Vidhan system in the Monsoon Session will mark the assembly's complete transition to paperless functioning,' he added.

Parliament Monsoon session Day 11 LIVE: Lok Sabha to take up National Sports Governance Bill, 2025
The government is likely to push on Monday (August 4, 2025) the passage of a key sports bill in the Lok Sabha, amid a continuing deadlock in Parliament as the opposition's united demand for a discussion on SIR failed to draw a positive response from the ruling alliance. Editorial | House of wars: On Parliament, Operation Sindoor discussion Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (August 3, 2025) separately called on President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. While the details of the meeting were not immediately available, the development comes in amid Bihar SIR stir in Parliament. The Opposition INDIA bloc leaders on Friday (August 1, 2025) had submitted a joint letter, asking for a discussion on SIR in Bihar, to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Except for a two-day discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in both the Houses, parliamentary proceedings have been all but a washout since the Monsoon session began on July 21 as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has ignited vociferous protests from opposition parties.
