Visakhapatnam: Chief judicial magistrate M Pradeep Kumar on Friday convicted Aarji Prakash, APSRTC bus driver of Walter depot in Vizag, to one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for causing death of an aged woman with his rash and negligent driving. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Senior assistant public prosecutor Mylapilli Adinarayana stated that on September 30, 2023, driver Prakash had stopped the bus on route number 48A at Chilakapeta near Lakshmi Talkies, under One Town police station in the city. Passenger Bonangi Ramulamma attempted to board the bus when the driver suddenly started moving without checking the foot board. Subsequently, she fell and suffered severe injuries. The woman was shifted to King Goerge Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Kotla Narayanamma, daughter of the deceased,lodged a report with One-Town police station. Woman sub inspector T Trinathri investigated the matter and filed the charge sheet. The prosecution proved the guilt beyond reasonable doubt under section 304A IPC against the accused. The court recommended the district legal service authority for payment of compensation to the dependants of the deceased under 357A CrPC.

Exhibition showcases ‘achievements' of govt

Trichy: Minister for municipal administration K N Nehru inaugurated a govt exhibition at the Anna Stadium complex here on Thursday. Organised by the department of public relations, the exhibition showcases the achievements and welfare initiatives introduced during the DMK govt. The minister visited the stalls set up by 27 key departments to explain flagship schemes to the public. These schemes include initiatives such as the free bus ride scheme for women, 1,000 monthly stipend for girl students in govt schools, the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai, and the breakfast scheme for school students. The 45-day exhibition also includes entertainment activities such as cultural performances, sports equipment displays, and daily art performances, particularly aimed at engaging children. The exhibition is open daily from 4pm to 10pm. Entry fees are fixed at 15 for adults and 10 for children. District collector M Pradeep Kumar, police commissioner N Kamini, mayor Mu Anbazhagan and corporation commissioner R Saravanan were present.

Grama sabha held in 404 panchayats in Trichy

Trichy: Grama sabha meetings were conducted in 404 panchayats in Trichy district on the occasion of May Day on Thursday. Resolutions were passed to improve rural infrastructure . District collector M Pradeep Kumar participated in the meeting at Kalpalayam in Konalai panchayat in Mannachanallur block. He stressed on maintaining clean sanitation, prevention of plastic use, conservation of water bodies and avoiding tobacco and drugs in villages. Resolutions were passed calling for prevention of child marriage and bonded labour. They also demanded improved rural infrastructure such as roads, water and streetlights. In the delta region, meetings were conducted in 589 panchayats in Thanjavur, 430 in Tiruvarur, 241 panchayats in Mayiladuthurai and 193 in Nagapattinam district. Thanjavur collector B Priyanka Pankajam participated in Kurungalur while Tiruvarur collector Mohanachandran joined the meeting in Thirukkaravasal. Mayiladuthurai collector H S Srikanth joined the grama sabha in Sattanathapuram. The collectors honoured sanitary workers for their contributions and distributed welfare assistance to beneficiaries.

Trichy GH gets new medical equipment worth ` 98L

Trichy: In a boost to patient care and medical infrastructure at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy, the hospital has received medical equipment worth Rs 98.44 lakh. The new equipment includes an echocardiogram (echo) machine with probes for adult, paediatric, and neonatal patients; an electromagnetic stimulation therapy device; and a combined ultrasonic therapy unit. The echocardiogram is used to examine the structure of the heart and surrounding blood vessels, assess blood flow, and evaluate the heart's chambers. Nearly 200 patients daily visit the cardiology department in the hospital from Trichy and neighbouring districts. The orthopaedic block will use the electromagnetic stimulation therapy device to treat musculoskeletal conditions by stimulating the healing process and reducing inflammation. "It can help with fractures, stiffness and chronic pain conditions. The equipment, installed in the hospital for the first time, was donated by the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), Chennai, under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. District collector M Pradeep Kumar inaugurated the devices on Friday. CWC executive director (south) Jacintha Lawrence and MGMGH medical superintendent Udhaya Aruna were present.
