I tested the Sky Blue MacBook Air M4 and you're going to want to upgrade just for the colour

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The MacBook Air M4 goes on sale this week, offering another bump in processing power. The M4 chip provides a 10-core CPU, which is two more than the M3, and can support up to 32GB of memory. All this from a super thin laptop with a completely fanless design, making it both fast and silent. While those boosted specs are impressive, there's another reason even MacBook Air M3 users will be looking longingly at this new model, and that's the colour. For this model, Apple has ditched the Space Gray in favour of a colour it's calling Sky Blue. I'm still in the process of testing the MacBook Air M4 for all of its features and performance, but I wanted to share just how good it looks ahead of its full release on 12th March. It's a rather subtle blue and in certain lights you'd be forgiven for thinking it was just grey, but it is rather appealing. It's not as bright as the pastel blue iMac or the Sierra Blue iPhone 13 Pro. Catch it right though, against a neutral colour, and you will definitely notice it, especially compared to the silver Mac finishes. The colour goes beyond the outer shell of the MacBook Air too, with the top plate surrounding the keypad, and including the touchpad, also Sky Blue. My favourite part is that even the supplied woven USB-C to MagSafe lead is the same Sky Blue as well. I'm always a little sad that the plug doesn't match too, but not as much as with the black cord and white plug combination on the Space Black finish MacBook Pro. Obviously, not everyone will upgrade their laptop purely for a new colour, but if you are in the market for a new machine anyway, this Sky Blue model is likely to appeal. The MacBook Air is already one of the best laptops on the market, and the M4 version promises to offer more of the same. I've only been using the new machine for a couple of days but the 15-inch model is certainly impressive with its super-thin build despite boasting that nice large screen. Look out for the full review in the coming weeks.

Grabbing this speedy workhorse that reviewers call 'unbelievably light' and 'incredibly powerful' for less than $800 is an astonishing deal. We have no idea how long these deals will last, so don't hesitate to nab one now! The latest MacBook Air has a vivid, bright 13.6-inch screen with minimal bezels for an optimal display and a supremely lightweight design. True to the Air name, it weighs less than three pounds and is less than a half-inch thick. There's really no fat here. It notably features the M3 chip, Apple's latest breakthrough CPU and GPU tech that offers breakneck processing speeds whether you're working, streaming or gaming. 'I haven't experienced any lag, even with multiple demanding applications open,' raves one reviewer. 'This thing chews through everyday tasks and even handles some light photo and video editing without breaking a sweat.' The battery life, meanwhile, lasts up to a whopping 18 hours. 'I recently purchased the 2024 MacBook Air M3 (base model) and it has completely blown me away. For anyone wondering if the base model is enough, let me assure you - it absolutely is! Here's what I love: Powerhouse Performance: The M3 chip is incredibly powerful. I haven't experienced any lag, even with multiple demanding applications open. This thing chews through everyday tasks and even handles some light photo and video editing without breaking a sweat. Featherlight Design: This laptop is unbelievably light. I can barely feel it in my bag, making it perfect for commuting or travel. Battery Life for Days: The battery life is nothing short of phenomenal. I easily get a full day's work done on a single charge, and then some! Stunning Display: The bezels are practically non-existent, giving you maximum screen real estate. And what a screen it is! The colors are vibrant, the text is sharp, and it's a joy to work on. Incredible Value: You get so much for your money with this laptop. It's the perfect balance of performance, portability, and price. Overall: This MacBook Air is a triumph. Apple has knocked it out of the park with the M3 chip and refined design. If you're looking for a powerful, portable, and long-lasting laptop, look no further than the 2024 MacBook Air M3. You won't be disappointed!' — matthew Sturdevant 'First off, the size for the 13 inch air Mac is a big enough size for a screen. I was expecting it to be smaller, but was pleasantly surprised. The quality of the screen and resolution and whatnots are impeccable. This runs like a dream. Unless you're just setting it up and then it takes a bit to get going due to all the information you're logging back in with if you're an Apple user. The appearance of this thing is beautiful. I don't know if I've ever seen a nicer looking laptop than this one. It's really sleek looking. Very slim too. Also very very very light, so careful when handling it. The keyboard is practically silent when you're typing on it. The speed on it after setting it up blew me away and I'm so happy I made this purchase. It feels so easy to use when you're on it. Highly recommend this laptop to any Apple user that was the M3 chip, a newer laptop upgrade and something to do what you need to off of it. It's amazing.' — Joe 'First off, I'm a gaming PC person. I do digital art as my main career, but wanted a laptop that could help me focus on studies and art. I got an HP Pavillion Aero 13, but it was too distracting. Chromebooks didn't quite cut it... I've used Windows all my life but decided to venture out to try something new to spice up my is my first time ever ordering a Macintosh product. It came on sale at $849.99 USD from $1,099.99 and saw that it was THIS year's release. I was in disbelief of how big the discount was. I have only been exposed to the Apple ecosystem for around two years now (through only the iPhone and AirPods) and must tell you that this laptop feels GREAT. Even with the 8GB of RAM, everything is going smooth sails, multitasking is a natural and no program has ever felt slow up to this point. Plus, iPhone weaves extremely nice and smooth with laptop is SUPER cool, and I have never felt a laptop this chill EVER. It got warm when installing Adobe products but it cooled off shortly after. Running games and art apps was a breeze! Discord, Word and Photoshop were running just as good as my other computers. My only complaint is all my portable hard drives are not compatible since they use NTFS... but since this was intended to largely complete college projects, I doubt it'll be an issue.I recommend this laptop if you want a taste of Apple's computers without spending much. I like having that hybrid world of experiencing both Windows/Android and Mac OS/iOS at my fingertips, so that's another reason why I ordered this. I don't regret it one bit and I almost want to hug this mini thing!' — Lawrence 'The price is definitely the worst thing about these machines. However, everything else is great. I got the 16gb ram 512gb storage model with 3 years of AppleCare. The battery is incredible. Last far more than all day. I'll have it set up watching YouTube while I'm cooking at full volume for a couple hours and it still at 90%. Bring to college all day never had any problem. Never gotten home and has less than 50% battery even after using it in all my classes and between. Snappy when turning it on. This is my first MacBook product and it meets an exceeds all expectations. If you are new to owning a Mac, it is definitely a transition from windows but not unbearably so. I'd recommended to anyone that wants something that will last.' — Amazon Customer The Real Deal: We use deal trackers and commerce experience to sift through 'fake' hike-and-drop deals and other deceptive sales tactics. Apple Macbook Air M2 vs M3: How much better is the new laptop?

Products are chosen independently by our editors. Purchases made through our links may earn us a commission. The humble MacBook Air has come a long way since Steve Jobs pulled the first model out of a yellow envelope. The most recent model features Apple's highly efficient M3 chip, which gives it a stunningly long battery life, while still offering excellent performance—and many consider it to be the best laptop for most users. (To be fully transparent, we name the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 as the top pick in our best laptop guide, but the MacBook Air M3 is our best overall MacBook pick.) At first glance, the MacBook Air M3 appears identical to the M2 model, but in reality, the two laptops are similar. They offer similar features, battery life, display quality, and more. But with an improved chip under the hood, the M3 is a better laptop, and we experienced this in our M3 model review. However, despite the M3 being better, for some it may still be worth saving the cash for a refurbished or used M2 model—and if you have a MacBook Air M2 already, it's probably not worth upgrading. Here's a deeper look at the two laptops and what the major differences are. MacBook Air M3 The latest and greatest MacBook Air, with better performance and a modern design. Read Our Review BUY NOW at Amazon Design Credit: Reviewed / Timothy Renzi On the left side of all M2 and M3 MacBook Air models, you'll find a MagSafe connector along with two USB-C 4 ports. When considering Apple's Macbook Air M1 vs M2, Apple redesigned the MacBook Air for the M2 generation, giving it a more modern profile with flat edges that syncs with other current Apple products. That new design has stuck around; ultimately, the design is more or less the same between the M2 and the M3 MacBook Air. The MacBook Air M2 not only represented a design refresh, it was also the introduction, or reintroduction, of a new display size. For the M2 series, Apple added a 15-inch MacBook Air model, and since then, you've been able to get a MacBook Air in either 13-inch or 15-inch sizes. That's good news for those who want a thin build and additional screen real estate. The M2 and the M3 MacBook Air measure 0.44 inches, which is extremely thin. The 15-inch MacBook Air isn't much thicker, measuring 0.45 inches thick. On the left side of all M2 and M3 MacBook Air models, you'll find a MagSafe connector along with two USB-C 4 ports. On the right side, the headphone jack can be found. That's it for ports though, and if you want more, you'll have to consider using a hub or buying a MacBook Pro instead. Given that the design is identical between these two laptops, there's no winner in the design category. Our pick: Tie MacBook Air M3 The latest and greatest MacBook Air, with better performance and a modern design. Read Our Review BUY NOW at Amazon Display The design of these laptops is the same, as is the display tech. Both 13-inch MacBook Air models feature a 13.6-inch display with a 2560 x 1664 resolution, while the 15-inch models have a 15.3-inch screen with a 2880 x 1864 resolution. All models have a 500-nit brightness and a pixel density of 224 pixels per inch. There's no big difference between the built-in displays on the M2 and M3 MacBook Air models. When it comes to display, it's more important to think about whether you want a 13-inch model vs a 15-inch model than whether you want an M2 or an M3. Our pick Tie MacBook Air M3 The latest and greatest MacBook Air, with better performance and a modern design. Read Our Review BUY NOW at Amazon MacBook Air M2 Almost as good as the newer model, but at a lower price. Read Our Review BUY NOW at Amazon Configurations and price The M2 and M3 models have slightly different configuration options. The base M2 MacBook Air comes with an M2 chip and 8GB of RAM, which can be upgraded to 16GB or 24 GB. It also has 256GB of storage, which can be upgraded to up to 2TB. The M3 model offers more than just a faster chip. The base M3 MacBook Air configuration has 16GB of RAM instead of 8 GB. The storage options are the same, starting at 256GB and ranging up to 2TB. Both 13-inch models come with an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, and they can both be upgraded to a 10-core GPU. The 15-inch M3 model has a 10-core GPU in its base configuration. Keep in mind that performance is much more than just the number of cores, and don't expect the 8-core CPU on the M2 to be as fast as the 8-core CPU on the M3. At the time of this writing, Apple was still selling the 13-inch version of the M2 MacBook Air for $999—however, you can no longer buy [the 15-inch M2 model new. The M3 MacBook Air starts at $1,099 for the 13-inch model and $1,299 for the 15-inch model. The M3 MacBook Air may be more expensive than the M2 model still available, but it has more configurations and you can still buy a new 15-inch M3 model. Our pick: M3 MacBook Air MacBook Air M3 The latest and greatest MacBook Air, with better performance and a modern design. Read Our Review BUY NOW at Amazon Performance The M2 and M3 models may offer similar core counts, but there's a lot more to performance. During our testing, the M3 MacBook Air showed around a 20% performance boost in benchmark tests. What does that mean? Well, it won't unlock all new worlds of possibilities, but it will give you more headroom if you need a laptop to perform more demanding tasks. Not only that, but that extra headroom could come in handy towards the end of the laptop's lifespan, though that remains to be seen. Unfortunately, Apple has yet to bring the Apple M4 chip to the MacBook Air—and it's entirely possible that it could skip the M4 and go straight to the M5. There are some ways in which better performance makes for real-world improvements right off the bat. For example, the M3 MacBook Air can drive two external monitors, compared to only one for the M2 MacBook Air. Perhaps it's a niche use case, but if you do want to use multiple external monitors, it's something to keep in mind. Our pick: M3 MacBook Air MacBook Air M3 The latest and greatest MacBook Air, with better performance and a modern design. Read Our Review BUY NOW at Amazon Battery life Credit: Reviewed / Adrien Ramirez The battery life of the M3 MacBook Air is likely to be more than enough for most, the M2 model still has a longer battery life. Apple rates all M2 and M3 MacBook Air models as offering the same battery life—up to 18 hours of video playback. That's pretty stellar, and most users should easily get a full workday of usage. If you don't use your laptop for a full day, you'll have no problem getting at least a few days of moderate usage before needing to charge. Despite Apple rating the battery life as the same on these laptops, our tests of the 13-inch models revealed some differences. The MacBook Air M3 reached 10 hours and 24 minutes in our battery test while the M2 model lasted 17 hours. We suspect the M2 model wouldn't perform as well if it were running the latest version of macOS, and its improved battery is likely at least partially due to a less powerful chip. Regardless, while the battery life of the M3 MacBook Air is likely to be more than enough for most, the M2 model still has a longer battery life. Our pick: MacBook Air M2 MacBook Air M2 Almost as good as the newer model, but at a lower price. Read Our Review BUY NOW at Amazon And the winner is … M3 MacBook Air No surprises here—Apple's newer laptop model is better. But only a bit better. In other words, there's no reason to upgrade to the M3 model if you already have an M2 model. But, if you have an M2 model and you're reaching its performance limits regularly, consider upgrading to a MacBook Pro instead. If you only use a laptop for basic tasks like web browsing, emails, and watching Netflix, save some cash by opting for an M2 model. A refurbished one will net you even greater savings. All said, if you prefer to buy the manufacturer's latest model, the M3 MacBook Air is an excellent machine.
