Three teenagers were killed in Glenella following a head on collision between a Mazda and a pick up truck
Three teenagers have died following a head-on collision in Mackay.
Emergency services were called to the Mackay Ring Road in the town of Glenella on Friday about 10.40pm following reports of a multi-car crash.
Police and paramedics arrived to find a Mazda 2 sedan and Great Wall Cannon dual cab ute had collided.
Police say early investigations indicate the Mazda had been travelling in a southbound direction when it attempted to overtake a semi-trailer.
It then smashed head-on with a ute travelling northbound.
The three teens in the Mazda, two boys and a girl, all aged 19, died at the scene.
Police have said the driver of the Great Wall, a 29-year-old man from Blacks Beach, was seriously injured and taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition.
The driver of the semi-trailer, a 68-year-old Kelso man, was uninjured.
The occupants of a fourth vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max, also escaped unharmed after veering off the road to avoid the crash.
Officers from the Mackay Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) are investigating and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
