PETRA,TNB To Install Solar PV Systems In Mosques, Promoting Energy Transition

PASIR PUTEH, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA), through Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) corporate social responsibility initiative, will install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at two mosques with an allocation of RM130,698. PETRA secretary-general Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli said the mosques, Masjid Al-Hijrah at the Fishermen Resettlement Area (PSN) in Tok Bali, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, and Masjid Al Huda in Kampung Rantau Abang, Dungun, Terengganu, received allocations of RM41,999 and RM88,699 respectively. He said the installations would reduce monthly electricity bills, promote environmental sustainability, raise community awareness, and help lower carbon emissions by replacing conventional energy sources with solar power. "These CSR projects are crucial in our efforts to bring the energy transition closer to the people, and solar power is one of the key initiatives under PETRA. "We call on other companies to follow TNB's example and take part in this energy transition efforts," he said when met at Masjid Al-Hijrah recently. He said the solar PV systems will be installed under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) GoMen scheme, whereby solar energy generated during the day will be used for electricity, and any excess energy will be exported to the TNB grid. "The exported excess will be recorded and reimported for use at night," he said. Meanwhile, the imam of Masjid Al-Hijrah PSN Tok Bali, Amirul Mukminin Mohd Roslan, said the solar project would benefit more than 1,200 residents. "InsyaAllah, there will be more programmes and activities at the mosque, especially at night, once the solar system is installed. It will also help reduce the monthly electricity bill," he said.

Kuala Nerus Coastal Erosion Control Project To Be Completed In Jan 2027

KUALA NERUS, May 24 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Nerus Coastal Erosion Control project is expected to be completed in January 2027, said the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) secretary-general Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli. He said the project, which began in July 2023 with a federal development allocation of RM90 million, has reached 24.5 per cent progress. According to him, the project involves beach nourishment works along a two-kilometre stretch and the construction of 16 breakwaters to restore eroded coastline from Pantai Mengabang Telipot to Pantai Batu Rakit. "The project implementation will help preserve the shoreline, prevent coastal flooding, and ultimately protect property and infrastructure from damage. "This will indirectly help revitalise tourism activities, which in turn will support local economic growth," he said in a statement today. Mad Zaidi said that based on the record of the MyProjek system as of May 19, the federal government has approved 27 projects, 22 of which are related to water resources, flood mitigation, and coastal erosion, implemented by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage. In addition, he said three water supply projects under the Water Supply Department and two projects under the Sewerage Services Department (JPP) were approved under the Fifth Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), with a total value of RM2.945 billion. Mad Zaidi said RM287.8 million has been set aside for Terengganu under the Fifth Rolling Plan of the 12MP. He added that 24 new projects had been proposed under the 13MP for 2026 and are currently undergoing budget review by the Economy Ministry.

Sungai Kelantan PLSB: Phase 1 Expected To Be Completed By September 2026

TUMPAT, May 24 (Bernama) -- Phase 1 of the Sungai Kelantan Integrated River Basin Project (PLSB) has achieved 96 per cent physical progress to date and is expected to be fully completed by September 2026. Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) secretary-general Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli said that the development of Phase 1 involves three main components from the federal government's development allocation amounting to RM669 million. He said the components involve flood mitigation development, environmentally friendly drainage and a 'living river'. "With the completion of this first phase, it is expected to benefit by protecting around 95,000 residents around the Sungai Kelantan who need to relocate due to floods. "In addition, it is expected to reduce the estimated physical losses of over RM4 billion per year due to floods once the project is completed," he told reporters after the PETRA Squad Eastern Zone tour to the Sungai Kelantan PLSB Phase 1 area in Kampung Laut here today. Meanwhile, Drainage and Irrigation Department director-general Mohamad Radzi Abdul said that Phase 2 of the Sungai Kelantan project is now entering the design phase and involves the development of tributaries and drainage around the city of Kota Bharu. He said the land acquisition process in the affected area is also expected to be carried out as early as the end of next year. Today's programme also saw the PETRA Squad Eastern Zone visiting the Kota Bharu AEON Shopping Centre to survey the location of TNB Electron's electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the area. So far, there are 18 TNB Electron charging locations in Peninsular Malaysia, including fast direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) chargers available for EVs, with five located on the east coast.
