‘Advanced dashboard, AI tech to improve legislative data mgmt'
1 2 Lucknow: UP legislative assembly Speaker Satish Mahana announced on Sunday that dashboards for each assembly constituency will soon be created which will contain all relevant data accessible to the respective public representatives on their tablets. Information from the govt, society, and other sources will also be updated on these dashboards, he said. "Additionally, AI cameras will provide information on speeches of members and topics discussed throughout the year, which will be available at the click of a button," Mahana said, while addressing a workshop in the assembly hall organised to educate legislators about the benefits and uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Speaker expressed hope that such initiatives would pave the way for more informed and efficient decision-making. The Speaker announced that future sessions would be scheduled with specific dates and topics in mind, ensuring a focused and productive legislative agenda. Cooperate for smooth conduct of session: Speaker to parties
1 2 Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly Speaker Satish Mahana requested leaders of all the parties to cooperate in the smooth conduct of the monsoon session beginning Monday. "Dialogue and positive discussions strengthen democracy within the parliamentary system. As the largest legislative assembly in the country, its proceedings set an example for other legislatures," Mahana said. He appealed to all the leaders to express their views within the bounds of decorum and parliamentary dignity and to engage in debates in a respectful and harmonious atmosphere. "I am confident that , as in the past, cooperation from all would be forthcoming in this session as well," he said. UP assembly holds AI training session for MLAs
Ahead of the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly commencing on Monday, a training session on artificial intelligence (AI) was held for the MLAs on Sunday. Experts from IIT-Kanpur conducted the session chaired by assembly speaker Satish Mahana. Over 200 legislators attended the session. We have also started AI enabled cameras which will help in many aspects. For example, one can get to know what all a member has spoken in a period of five years within seconds with the help of AI-enabled cameras,' Mahana said. 'This is not a step of just monitoring, but many other aspects of information are also associated with it,' he added. The session was divided into two parts where first was to introduce AI to the MLAs while in the second part, they were explained about real life application of AI. However, MLAs raised doubts too. 'AI can judge your objective. Hence AI would not be able to do analysis of the data it is taking and the objective with which that data was made. Will AI be able to differentiate between genuine data from the fabricated one? And what about data safety,' asked Sirathu MLA Pallavi Patel. Aradhana Mishra, Congress legislature party leader, said, 'More than introducing AI, the legislators need to be told how to connect dots between their working needs and the AI.' 'Introducing AI is a welcome step but a debate makes it better for the assembly,' said leader of the opposition Mata Prasad Pandey. Kaimganj MLA Surabhi Singh said, 'Can AI cater to the sentiments of our voters? This is significant as an MLA has to connect directly with voters.' 'What if the data available from sources such as the internet is incorrect. Should we first focus on correct data,' asked another member in the house. The experts from IIT-K answered their queries. Special session to discuss UP's 'Vision 2047': Mahana The 24-hours special session to be conducted from August 13 to 14 will have a discussion on UP's 'Vision 2047', said the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly speaker Satish Mahana on Sunday. The session will start at 11 am on August 13. This is the second such session after 2019. The special session will have primary debate that will be taken before the public and then tables in the assembly. 'In three-and-a-half years, sessions have been conducted smoothly and have witnessed increased participation of the members during debate and discussions. The fact is only twice the session had to be adjourned in the past three-and-a-half years. This successful conduct had a positive role of the opposition too,' Mahana added. Asked about the demand from the opposition regarding increasing days of session for debate, he said, 'The days are not less for debate. The monsoon sessions in the past have been conducted similarly.'

Four-day Uttar Pradesh legislature session to run till August 14
The Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh legislature will commence on Monday (August 11, 2025), with Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana chairing an all-party meeting on Sunday (August 10, 2025) to seek the cooperation of all political parties. Both Houses — the Vidhan Sabha and the Vidhan Parishad — will sit for four days, till August 14, with some key Bills expected to be tabled. 'We requested for the cooperation of leaders from all the parties during the Assembly session,' Mr. Mahana said. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the Vidhan Sabha premises, where he inaugurated the renovated dome at the entrance of the Vidhan Bhavan, Assembly Room No. 15, and the VVIP dining hall. He also participated in the all-party meeting ahead of the session. The Samajwadi Party (SP), the principal Opposition, said it would raise issues such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the context of the Bihar polls, the merger of government schools, law and order, and floods. 'We will raise key issues like the SIR, school merger which are fundamental to the survival of democracy and the future of our country,' SP spokesperson Ameeque Jamei said. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said any attempt to portray the SIR as politically motivated was 'misleading and baseless'. 'The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar is a routine, transparent, and constitutionally mandated exercise carried out under the direct supervision of the Election Commission of India. Its objective is simple - to ensure that every eligible voter's name is included, errors are corrected, and duplicate or ineligible entries are removed. This process strengthens democracy and empowers citizens, especially first-time voters. Any attempt to portray this as politically motivated is baseless and misleading,' said Pushkar Mishra, a senior BJP functionary based in Uttar Pradesh.

UP assembly to hold AI training session for lawmakers on Aug 10
The Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly proposes to hold a brief training session to train the legislators about artificial intelligence (AI) that will help them have special AI teams to try out smart tools that help with legal research, document checking and studying policies. The training session is likely to help the legislators in setting up AI support units. AI can help write new laws and bills, spot legal problems and draw comparisons with laws in other states or countries. (HT file) This will also help the legislators in using AI for writing laws, new bills and spotting legal problems and comparing the proposed laws with the similar laws in other states and countries. Assembly speaker Satish Mahana, who presided over a meeting convened to review security arrangements for the monsoon session of the state legislative assembly commencing here on August 11, said the training session has been organised on August 10. He said experts from IIT Kanpur would impart training in the AI to the MLAs and interact with them in nearly two-hour training sessions. Mahana said the state legislative assembly's app would have an AI base. He said besides recognising the members at the entry points and marking their attendance, the AI will also help the members in finding appropriate reference material for their speech in the house. 'The backup for the proceedings of the house will also be connected to AI backup and this will help the members in finding excerpts on any issue from their own speech or from the proceedings. The members will also be able to go through the important debates in the house,' Mahana added. He said the state legislative assembly would see five new upgrades in the monsoon session. These include a new chandelier at the main entrance, another large one under the dome of Vidhan Sabha hall, a renovated room that is the venue of business advisory committee meetings and a new canteen of the house. The training session is likely to help the legislators in setting up AI support units. AI can help write new laws and bills, spot legal problems and draw comparisons with laws in other states or countries. It may also be used to predict the impact of law, help lawmakers understand public opinion and what the people want. AI can also spot ethical problems.
