Four-day Uttar Pradesh legislature session to run till August 14
Both Houses — the Vidhan Sabha and the Vidhan Parishad — will sit for four days, till August 14, with some key Bills expected to be tabled. 'We requested for the cooperation of leaders from all the parties during the Assembly session,' Mr. Mahana said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the Vidhan Sabha premises, where he inaugurated the renovated dome at the entrance of the Vidhan Bhavan, Assembly Room No. 15, and the VVIP dining hall. He also participated in the all-party meeting ahead of the session.
The Samajwadi Party (SP), the principal Opposition, said it would raise issues such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the context of the Bihar polls, the merger of government schools, law and order, and floods. 'We will raise key issues like the SIR, school merger which are fundamental to the survival of democracy and the future of our country,' SP spokesperson Ameeque Jamei said.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said any attempt to portray the SIR as politically motivated was 'misleading and baseless'. 'The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar is a routine, transparent, and constitutionally mandated exercise carried out under the direct supervision of the Election Commission of India. Its objective is simple - to ensure that every eligible voter's name is included, errors are corrected, and duplicate or ineligible entries are removed. This process strengthens democracy and empowers citizens, especially first-time voters. Any attempt to portray this as politically motivated is baseless and misleading,' said Pushkar Mishra, a senior BJP functionary based in Uttar Pradesh.

Amid 'vote chori' row, BJP claims Sonia Gandhi listed as voter before becoming citizen
NEW DELHI: The BJP on Wednesday launched a counterattack on the Congress, questioning its alleged attempt at 'vote-chori' by reportedly seeking inclusion of Sonia Gandhi's name in the electoral roll years before she was granted Indian citizenship. In response to the Congress's criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) system and its allegations of electoral malpractice, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya took to 'X' (formerly Twitter), saying, 'Sonia Gandhi's tryst with India's voters' list is riddled with glaring violations of electoral law.' He wrote, 'This perhaps explains Rahul Gandhi's fondness for regularising ineligible and illegal voters, and his opposition to the SIR. Her name first appeared on the rolls in 1980 — three years before she became an Indian citizen and while she still held Italian citizenship. At the time, the Gandhi family lived at 1, Safdarjung Road, the official residence of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Until then, the voters registered at that address were Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, and Maneka Gandhi.' Tagging a copy of the requisition slip for adding Sonia Gandhi's name, Malviya claimed, 'In 1980, the electoral rolls of the New Delhi parliamentary constituency were revised with January 1, 1980, as the qualifying date. During this revision, Sonia Gandhi's name was added, appearing at serial number 388 in polling station 145'. He alleged in the post, 'This entry was a clear violation of the law, which requires a person to be an Indian citizen to be registered as a voter. Following an outcry in 1982, her name was deleted from the list — only to reappear in 1983. But even her reinstatement raised serious questions. In the fresh revision of the electoral rolls that year, Sonia Gandhi was listed at serial number 236 in polling. Thakur's vote theft charge Ex-Union Minister Anurag Thakur alleged voter registration irregularities in Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Diamond Harbour, and Kannauj. He accused Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Akhilesh Yadav of winning through 'vote theft.'

Rahul Gandhi to launch INDIA bloc's ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra' against Bihar SIR on Aug 17
PATNA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is all set to embark on 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' from Bihar's Rohtas district on August 17 to register a protest against how the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls was being conducted in the state. This comes at a time when the Opposition is ratcheting up its protest against the SIR and casting aspersions on the integrity of elections. AICC general secretary (organisation) and MP KC Venugopal held a meeting with the INDIA bloc leaders at Sasaram in Rohtas district on Wednesday and reviewed preparations for Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bihar. Later, Venugopal wrote on 'X', 'The fight to protect our democracy will take place on the streets! Starting August 17, LOP Rahul Gandhi Ji and the INDIA parties will embark on a massive 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' across Bihar - against the dangerous SIR exercise, and to make the battle against 'Vote Chori' a mass movement! 'In this context, met INDIA bloc leaders in Sasaram today (Wednesday) to assess our preparation, mobilisation and set up smooth coordination for the Yatra.' The Yatra is expected to give a major push to the INDIA bloc's campaign for the upcoming Bihar assembly election. Along with Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, other senior leaders of the INDIA bloc will address joint public meetings during the Yatra. The Yatra is expected to follow the route that Rahul had undertaken during the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.
