Gangster's wife held for running flesh trade den

Nagpur: In a shocking revelation, the wife of a notorious gangster, Aarti Marskolhe, was arrested for operating a flesh trade from Tourist Plaza Building, barely 100 metres from Sitabuldi Mahametro station on Monday. Sitabuldi police station is also located within 500 metres from the place where the illegal activities were underway for several months. The raid, conducted by the social security branch of Nagpur's crime branch, led to the rescue of four women, all under the age of 30, who were victims of the illegal operation. They were shifted to a govt shelter home for rehabilitation. Led by inspector Rahul Shire, the team comprising head constable Prakash Mathankar and others, busted the racket by first sending a decoy to the spa to trap the racketeers. The raid resulted in the seizure of incriminating items valued at Rs 37,730, including a DVR, condoms, Rs 2,500 in cash, a mobile phone, an iPhone, and notebooks from the counter. The accused, Aarti, was apprehended at the spot. Sources said her husband, Akshay, was earlier arrested under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act. Further investigation is under way.

In a first, CP invokes MPDA against Central India's most dreaded burglar

Nagpur: In an unprecedented move, Nagpur police commissioner Ravinder Singal has authorised detention of Naresh Yadav Wankal alias Mahilange, infamous as Central India's most notorious burglar, under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA). This marks the first time when a burglar has been booked under MPDA in Nagpur, a law typically applied on hardened criminals. Mahilange, 28, faces nearly 150 criminal cases across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, including housebreaking, vehicle theft, assault, and drug trafficking. His audacious crime spree, which disrupted public order, also included a ₹2 crore burglary in Mankapur. Known for his cunningness, Mahilange once escaped from GMCH where he was taken by police and often fled crime scenes in vehicles stolen from his targets. The MPDA proposal, meticulously prepared by Kalamna police team led by senior inspector Praveen Kale and sub-inspector Santoshkumar Ramlod, under Zonal DCP Niketan Kadam, was sanctioned by CP Singal on Wednesday. The crime branch's MPDA section acted swiftly, detained Mahilange and lodged him in Nagpur Central Jail. He will be transferred to Kolhapur Central Prison. This operation highlights Nagpur Police's aggressive crackdown on organised crime, with recent successes in dismantling rackets and apprehending fugitives. "This sends a strong message to criminals that Nagpur will not tolerate lawlessness," said CP Singal.

Goon kills man 10 days after jail release

Nagpur: Released from jail just 10 days ago, Sujal Mhaiskar, a notorious goon with nearly 10 criminal cases against him, killed a man on Monday night. Gosavi also had two cases against him, including one for molestation and another for assault last year. Mhaiskar, along with his accomplices Ravi Banerjee, 27, Bhupesh Wanjari, and others, were drinking beside the road after the owner asked them to leave the eatery for creating a ruckus. Gosavi too attacked Banerjee. As Mhaiskar joined the brawl, Gosavi overpowered him as well as Banerjee and Wanjari. The three assailants then used stones to assault Gosavi. In a fit of rage, Mhaiskar and others struck Gosavi on the head and body with stones, causing fatal injuries. Gosavi was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The Jaripatka police have apprehended the assailants, including Mhaiskar, Banerjee, and Wanjari. Except for Banerjee, the rest of the assailants had previous case histories.

Road rage turns into sword attack in Ambernath, two seriously hurt

THANE: A minor road rage incident escalated into a violent sword attack on a street in Barkupada, in Ambernath East, on Friday evening. A group of men brandishing swords, allegedly goons linked to a political party, launched a frenzied attack on local residents, leaving the street bloodied, and panicked residents scrambling for cover as the assailants ran amuck. Two people were seriously injured and several others hurt. The incident occurred around 5:00pm near Durga Mandir, when a woman in her early 20s, daughter of a former corporator, honked at a local resident, Mahesh Rajput, 28, who was crossing the street. Witnesses say the woman stopped her car and began to hurl expletives at Mahesh. 'Does your father own the street,' she challenged. Mahesh's elder brother Mangesh, 32, who filed a police complaint after the attack, later said, 'My brother stepped aside but she halted her car and insulted him. When we questioned her, she took photos of us, saying she would 'deal with us later'.' Around 15 minutes later, a group of armed men arrived at the spot. First, two of them pulled up on a motorcycle, and then a car carrying five to six men armed with swords and choppers drew up. Armed with photos of the Rajput brothers on their mobile phones, earlier clicked by the corporator's daughter, they began seeking out Mahesh. When they found him, one of the goons grabbed him by the shirt, shoved him to the ground, and, along with the other thugs, began thrashing him. Raja Ghorpade, cousin of the victim, attempted to intervene but he too was attacked. Mahesh's brother Mangesh attempted to calm the assailants. 'I was trying to stop them from killing my brother. I pleaded with them, but they told me to get lost or else they would kill me too,' said Mangesh. 'Do you know whose daughter she is,' one of the thugs said to him, referring to the woman from the car. 'Then one of them slashed my face with a sword,' said Mangesh, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kalyan. 'There was blood everywhere. I thought I wouldn't survive.' To drive away the assailants, local residents began hurling stones at them but they too were attacked. Mobile phone footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a group of men brandishing swords in the street while screaming residents run for cover. Both injured brothers are being treated at a private hospital in Kalyan. Local residents have identified some of the assailants, saying they are political party workers, who were trying to assert their supremacy ahead of local body elections to be held later this year. A day after the attack, Barkupada was still tense on Saturday evening, with a strong police presence in the neighbourhood. The Shivajinagar Police have registered a case against ten unnamed men based on a complaint filed by Mangesh Rajput. The case has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with the Indian Arms Act and Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA). Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sachin Gore said, 'A case has been registered against ten accused, and teams are searching for them. Strict action will be taken against all those involved in this act of violence. We are trying to ascertain where they secured the weapons.'

CP Warns of MCOCA, MPDA Action on Criminals Ahead of Bakri Eid–Shiv Rajyabhishek Weekend

1 2 3 Nagpur: Commissioner of police Ravinder Singal has warned of strict against against the known troublemakers in the city, with plans to invoke MPDA, MCOCO and even externment orders ahead of Bakri Eid and Shiv Rajyabhishek, both of which fall on this weekend. Addressing a citywide peace committee meeting at the police headquarters, Singal interacted with peace committee members, community leaders, religious representatives, and citizens from various police stations. The meeting aimed to ensure communal harmony and a peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming celebrations. "We must not dwell on past incidents. Nagpur is a city of peace," said Singal, urging citizens to focus on building a stable and harmonious future. "We need to move on from previous riots and look ahead with unity," he added. Addressing members of the peace committee, Singal emphasized their critical role in maintaining law and order, calling them 'the eyes of the police'. He assured that all information and tip-offs from citizens would remain strictly confidential and encouraged the public not to hesitate in reporting suspicious or unlawful activities. "Tip-offs are the backbone of our operations," he said, revealing that many major crackdowns — including the recent Operation Thunder — were made possible because of vital leads from alert citizens. The commissioner informed that police have already begun identifying and warning known anti-social elements across the city. Legal proceedings under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA) and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) are currently in progress. Repeat offenders are also being considered for externment to ensure they cannot disrupt peace during the upcoming festivities. "Simultaneously, we're cracking down on the illegal sale of liquor," Singal added. "We are also initiating action against the misuse of prescription drugs, which is becoming a growing concern in certain pockets of the city." The police chief also urged citizens to engage positively during the festivities. He encouraged families to involve children in cultural and religious celebrations to promote harmony. Singal further called on youth and content creators to avoid provocative material and instead focus on making positive, culture-rich content and reels that celebrate the spirit of unity. During the meeting, several critical issues were raised by citizens and community leaders. These included the need for increased night patrolling, especially in Central Nagpur and areas like Ganeshpeth, which has eight to ten active mosques. Residents requested that two police personnel be deployed at every major chowk to maintain law and order. Another key concern was the improper transport of meat during the festival, with citizens urging that sacrificial meat be carried carefully to avoid blood dripping in public places, which has triggered tensions earlier. Clarifications were also sought on buffalo sacrifices, with community representatives stating that while the meat is legal, misunderstandings, particularly when it's mistaken for beef, often lead to unrest. Police were also urged to step up monitoring and enforcement around such situations and to increase public awareness about legal practices to prevent misinformation. Waste management emerged as another significant issue. Citizens expressed dissatisfaction with Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), citing delays in garbage collection and poor circulation of vehicles, especially in sacrifice zones. They requested increased deployment of NMC officials and vehicles to ensure cleanliness and hygiene during the festival.
