Rennes hijack OGC Nice's Mahdi Camara deal
Mahdi Camara (27) had looked to be closing in on a move to OGC Nice, however, Stade Rennais have stepped in to hijack the deal, as per a report from . Nice have been looking to bring in midfield reinforcements, and they looked to have found that in Camara. As reported by RMC Sport, a deal between Le Gym and Stade Brestois was almost completed, whilst the player himself had already agreed a four-year deal with the Riviera club. The transfer looked just a matter of time, however, at the final hour, Rennes stepped in. The Breton club, in advanced talks with Brest, are now set to sign the SB29 midfielder for a fee of around €8m. Seduced by the club's project, despite their lack of European football this season, Camara is therefore now set to join Rennes, instead of Nice, whose participation in this season's UEFA Europa League was confirmed following defeat to SL Benfica on Tuesday. Rennes have signed Brest midfielder Mahdi Camara (27), both clubs have announced. The former AS Saint-Etienne midfielder has signed a four-year deal with Les Rouge et Noir. Rennes and Brest previously agreed to a transfer fee in the region of €8m to secure the services of the French midfielder, who underwent his medical this Wednesday. Nice had expressed an interest in signing Camara as Franck Haise urgently needs midfield reinforcements, as Morgan Sanson is injured and Pablo Rosario is on his way out. However, after Rennes registered their interest in signing the former Brest midfielder, Camara gave his priority to Habib Beye's side. The Franco-Gambian is now set to join Stade Rennais. Mahdi Camara / Stade Brestos Mahdi Camara had been heavily linked with OGC Nice. Everything seemed in place for the move, but Stade Rennais has swooped in at the last minute and is now on the verge of securing the Brest midfielder. The 27-year-old Franco-Gambian midfielder, under contract with Brest until 2027, was just a step away from joining Nice. Franck Haise, the Aiglons' coach, made no secret of his admiration for the player and saw him as a key addition to his midfield. However, a dramatic twist has changed the landscape: Rennes, impressed by Camara's versatility and influence, has offered him a four-year deal. The player was reportedly swayed by the words of Rennes coach Habib Beye, who promised him a central role in the club's sporting project. Despite Nice's early advantage, Brest's asking price of 8 million euros proved too steep for the Niçois, according to several sources. Rennes seized the opportunity, quickly reaching a salary agreement with Mahdi Camara and now negotiating with Brest over the transfer fee, which is also expected to be around €8 million. Both parties are expected to finalize a four-year contract very soon. Camara is set to arrive in Rennes shortly for his medical and to sign his contract.

According to a report from L'Équipe, OGC Nice are looking to strengthen their midfield this summer with the signing of Mahdi Camara (27) from Stade Brestois. Nice's midfield were notably exposed during their 2-0 defeat at home to SL Benfica in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier, and the club have reportedly been looking to act fast in the market. Les Aiglons have set their sights on Camara and have been attempting to get this deal over the line, with Brest reportedly wanting around €8m. The midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit from Brest this summer, and early in the summer was approached by clubs from the United States and Russia. Camara has been a key part of this Brest squad since he joined in the summer of 2022 from boyhood club AS Saint-Étienne. Last season, he was able to experience the UEFA Champions League for the first time with Les Pirates, helping the club to reach the playoff rounds, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.
