Stade Brestos: Stade Rennais overtakes Nice for Mahdi Camara

Yahooa day ago
The Franco-Gambian is now set to join Stade Rennais.
Mahdi Camara / Stade Brestos
Mahdi Camara had been heavily linked with OGC Nice. Everything seemed in place for the move, but Stade Rennais has swooped in at the last minute and is now on the verge of securing the Brest midfielder.
The 27-year-old Franco-Gambian midfielder, under contract with Brest until 2027, was just a step away from joining Nice. Franck Haise, the Aiglons' coach, made no secret of his admiration for the player and saw him as a key addition to his midfield. However, a dramatic twist has changed the landscape: Rennes, impressed by Camara's versatility and influence, has offered him a four-year deal.
The player was reportedly swayed by the words of Rennes coach Habib Beye, who promised him a central role in the club's sporting project. Despite Nice's early advantage, Brest's asking price of 8 million euros proved too steep for the Niçois, according to several sources. Rennes seized the opportunity, quickly reaching a salary agreement with Mahdi Camara and now negotiating with Brest over the transfer fee, which is also expected to be around €8 million. Both parties are expected to finalize a four-year contract very soon. Camara is set to arrive in Rennes shortly for his medical and to sign his contract.

Liverpool near mega Alexander Isak agreement

Liverpool are now nearing a mega agreement for Alexander Isak. In another world the Swede would already be playing for the Reds. If it would not have been for Newcastle's incompetence in the transfer market this summer, Isak would be lining up for Liverpool. 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! But of course, the Reds have also had the chance to sign him in the past. Notably in 2022 the recruitment team pushed to bring him in over Darwin Nunez, but in the end the Uruguayan was chosen. Before that, Liverpool had followed Isak's career closely at AIK and wanted to sign him but he chose Borussia Dortmund. So this pursuit continues. Though at last it seems like it's finally coming to an end. Liverpool are getting closer and closer to getting their man. A report from Spain backs this up. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range According to AS reporter Eduardo Burgos on X, Newcastle are anticipating a mega second bid worth £130m from Liverpool. In his report he claims that an 'agreement will be reached for €150 million (£130 million)' which is exactly the bid that they are expecting from the Reds. In the report, it's also added that Liverpool are confident that the deal will go through. So based on that, it seems like Isak is closing in on a move to Liverpool and the agreement between the two parties is not very far away now. And what a deal this would be. £130m is an incredible amount to pay for one player. It's going to be the British transfer record, surpassing Enzo Fernandez's and Moises Caicedo's transfer to Chelsea.

Ohio State black stripe alert: Transfer offensive lineman joins the 'brotherhood'

It's a right of passage when it comes to being welcomed into the "brotherhood" of the Ohio State football program. You can be signed, on campus, taking classes and walking down High Street, but until you show you fit the culture with the work ethic, attitude, and teamwork it takes, you aren't considered an official member of the team. That's where the tradition Urban Meyer started comes in. When your example at practice and outside the field of play match and align with program principles, you have an opportunity to shed the black stripe covering up the scarlet stripe down the middle of the helmet. All Buckeye newcomers must go through the process, and we had a couple realize that on Wednesday. Not only did North Carolina defensive end transfer Beau Atkinson shed his black stripe, but so too did offensive lineman Phillip Daniels, who transferred from Minnesota. Out of Cincinnati, Daniels started his career in Minneapolis. He redshirted in 2023, then played in 12 games for the Golden Gophers last season, starting three of them. He transferred to Ohio State at the end of last year and is solidly competing for the starting right tackle spot. He might just win it, but even if he doesn't he figures to be a part of the rotation and future there. He was happy to be so-called official in a brief ceremony at practice on Wednesday. "Hey, first off, I want to thank God for letting me play the sport I love. I want to thank the O-line room for taking me in, treating me like a brother -- it's a brotherhood here," Daniels said in front of teammates. "I want to thank the defense, D-Line, everybody getting me work every day, and getting me right. Go Bucks!" There are still some Ohio State newcomers who still need to have their black stripes removed, and as it happens, we'll let you know. Saints sign defensive end Jeremiah Martin and waive rookie QB Hunter Dekkers

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Saints signed free agent defensive end Jeremiah Martin and waived rookie quarterback Hunter Dekkers on Thursday, New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis said. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Martin is entering his third NFL season since being signed as an undrafted free agent by Cleveland after the 2023 draft. He spent last season on practice squads for three teams: the Browns, New York Giants and Green Bay. Martin played college football for five seasons between 2018 and 2022, three with Texas A&M and two with Washington. Dekkers, signed as an undrafted rookie following a tryout after last spring's draft, has now been waived twice since the beginning of training camp. He's been the Saints' lone left-handed QB but did not appear in New Orleans' preseason opener last weekend against the Chargers in Los Angeles. Dekkers was among four QBs on the roster for that game, along with Spencer Rattler, who started the game; second-round draft choice Tyler Shough; and 2023 fourth-round draft choice Jake Haener. ___ AP NFL:
