Haryana to rebrand VCs as ‘Kulguru': Mahipal Dhanda

Haryana education minister Mahipal Dhanda on Friday said that the vice-chancellors (VCs) of all government universities in the state will now be referred to as 'Kulguru' instead of the current title 'Kulpati'. Dhanda, an MLA from Panipat Rural, said that an amendment to the University Act will be made to formalise this change. The announcement came during a one-day workshop on internship organised under the National Education Policy, 2020, by Haryana State Higher Education Council at JC Bose University of Science and Technology in Faridabad. Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, VC of Kurukshetra University (KU), was the guest of honour at the event. Dhanda also highlighted that Haryana is the first state in India to fully implement NEP. Prof Sachdeva, said that the university achieved a prestigious NAAC A++ grade and became the first to integrate NEP-2020 in all undergraduate, postgraduate and affiliated college programmes. Additionally, KU launched over 172 internship programmes through its virtual internship program portal (VIP), aligned with NEP. The university also introduced Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Programs (AEDP) for courses such as BCA, Professional, Event Management, and Medical Lab Technology, starting this academic year.

Haryana education minister Mahipal Dhanda has praised the impressive performance of government school students in the JEE Advanced 2025, highlighting that these institutions have become powerful platforms for success. In a statement, Dhanda said that 193 students from government schools across the state under the Super-100 programme appeared for the JEE exam, with 72 successfully qualifying for JEE Advanced. The minister credited the success to Haryana's Super-100 programme, designed to prepare underprivileged students for national-level competitive exams like IIT and JEE. The initiative, Dhanda said, has provided a new ray of hope for poor students aspiring to excel in the competitive field of education. The minister said that the most notable achievement was the success of 24 girls in the also mentioned Ravinder, a student from Unchana block in Jind district, who secured AIR 212 in the OBC category and overall AIR 1,267. He completed his Class 10 from Government Senior Secondary School, Gurana, Hisar. Dhanda further pointed out that students from several districts performed well, including eight from Faridabad, seven each from Gurugram and Hisar, and six each from Bhiwani and Jind.

The Haryana government has initiated the online admission process for undergraduate (UG) courses in government colleges for the academic year 2025–26. Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda announced the launch of the centralised online portal on Monday, aiming to streamline college admissions across the state. A pproximately 1.86 lakh students who have cleared the Class 12 examinations this year are eligible to apply for various UG courses. To facilitate the process, SMS alerts containing the portal link have been sent to all eligible students. The admission portal, accessible at became operational on May 19, earlier than last year's June 3 start, to prevent delays and inconvenience.
