City to host 64 nations for 18th Int'l Olympiad on Astronomy

Mumbai: The 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics will take place in Mumbai from August 11 to 21, marking the first time in over a decade that any international science Olympiad is being held in the country, reports Mahiyar Patel. The city will host 300 students and 140 delegation members from 64 countries. Organised by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, this year's event will see record participation from students. Participants will compete in a series of exams and activities designed to challenge and expand their understanding of astronomy and astrophysics. Prof Arnab Bhattacharya, Director, HBCSE, elaborated on the programme: "Exams will cover multiple subjects, team-building competitions, and theoretical sessions on topics like data analysis. On alternate days, participants will be taken on field trips to local museums and institutions, such as the Nehru Science Centre and IIT Bombay, and after the main exams, they will visit Pune's Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope. CISCE schools to implement new physical edu system

Mumbai: All schools affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) will soon implement a revamped physical education system under a new initiative titled "ACTIVE CISCE". Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The programme, launching July 15, aims to promote holistic student fitness and wellbeing through structured and tech-integrated physical education. Under ACTIVE CISCE, all students will be required to register on a dedicated web portal which will provide grade and age-specific fitness test modules, instructional video tutorials for both self-assessment and teacher evaluation, and fitness improvement exercises. Each student will receive an online fitness report card with a baseline fitness score, progress over time, lifestyle indicators (sleep patterns, diet, and screen time), and sports skills badges. — Mahiyar Patel
