Fire at Boardman storage facility draws firefighters from multiple departments
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Multiple departments from across Mahoning County are responding to a fire at a storage facility in Boardman. There's an active scene Saturday afternoon at the ExtraSpace Storage on Route 224. A First News crew on the scene reported seeing the smoke coming from the back of one of the buildings around 1 p.m. We are working to learn more and will update you when we have more information. Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash in Mahoning County
BEAVER TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A motorcyclist was seriously hurt in a crash in Mahoning County Saturday morning. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 9:40 a.m. on State Route 7 in Beaver Township. Troopers said the man riding the motorcycle was headed south and the driver of a pickup truck was headed north. The pickup truck driver made a left turn into a driveway when the motorcycle hit the side of the truck, according to troopers. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and a third vehicle, also traveling north, hit him, troopers said. The motorcyclist was flown to the hospital by medical helicopter. Troopers said he is in critical condition. Drugs, alcohol or distracted driving are not believed to be factors in the crash. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Volunteers place flags at veterans' graves ahead of Memorial Day
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – In preparation for Memorial Day at the end of the month, volunteers spent Saturday morning placing flags on veterans' graves. Around 100 flags were placed on the graves of veterans at Lake Park Cemetery on Midlothian Boulevard in Boardman. Volunteers say they enjoy seeing younger people helping out, as it gives them a chance to learn more about veterans. The flags will stay up through Veterans Day. 'If we don't take care of those, the history is lost, number one, the love of our veterans is lost. We look forward to being able to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice,' said John Brown, with AMVETS. Pollinators celebrated at Youngstown festival
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Just in time for planting season, there's a festival happening in Youngstown on Saturday to celebrate pollinators and their role in the environment. The Pollinator Palooza Festival will be at the Mahoning County Soil and Water Conservation District at 850 Industrial Road from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. It's the first time for this festival, which organizers hope will become an annual event. The free, family-friendly event will feature plant sales, vendors, exhibits and food trucks. Festival-goers can learn about the role pollinators play in the environment. The festival is hosted by the Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District in partnership with Operation Pollination, the Mahoning County Land Bank and the OSU Extension Mahoning County.
