Malaysian senior citizen killed in Narathiwat crash after tyre burst causes vehicle to skid into ditch
NARATHIWAT (Thailand), June 6 — A Malaysian senior citizen died after the vehicle he was driving skidded into a ditch in an accident along the Narathiwat-Pattani Highway near Yi Ngo District in Thailand's southern province yesterday afternoon. Yi Ngo District Police Chief, Naravi Binwaearong, said his department received a report of the accident at 3pm local time. 'Police officers who arrived at the scene found that the victim had been taken to Yi Ngo Hospital and was confirmed dead a few hours after the accident,' he said when contacted yesterday (Thursday). He said the victim, aged 68, was from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, and had been driving alone at the time of the incident. Preliminary investigations found that the accident was caused by a burst tyre on the four-wheel drive vehicle the victim was driving. 'The police have informed the Malaysian Consulate of the incident, and the victim's body remains at Yi Ngo Hospital,' he added. — Bernama

Thai police said a post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was a heart attack. PETALING JAYA : A Malaysian man was found dead in a hotel room in Betong, Yala, Thailand yesterday. Betong police investigation chief Jakkarin Laksana said the 67-year-old man from Negeri Sembilan was believed to be on vacation in Betong, Bernama reported. He said hotel staff called police after they discovered the man lying face down in the room on Monday morning. 'A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was a heart attack,' Jakkarin was quoted as saying. He said the victim's son arrived at Betong Hospital to identify and claim the body before arranging for it to be brought back to Malaysia. The Malaysian consulate office in Songkhla has confirmed that it is assisting the family to facilitate the repatriation process.

YALA, May 27 — A Malaysian man was found dead in a hotel room in Betong, Yala, on Monday. Betong Police Investigation Chief, Maj. Col. Pol. Jakkarin Laksana, said the 67-year-old man from Negeri Sembilan was believed to be on vacation in Betong. He said the man's body was discovered lying face down in the room by hotel staff on Monday morning. Police rushed to the scene after receiving a call from the hotel staff at around 8:30 am, he added. 'Upon arrival, we found the victim lying face down beside the bed. 'A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was a heart attack,' he said when contacted on Tuesday. Jakkarin said the victim's son arrived at Betong Hospital earlier in the day to identify and claim the body before it is brought back to Malaysia. Meanwhile, the Malaysian Consulate Office in Songkhla, when contacted, confirmed that it is assisting the family to facilitate the repatriation process. — Bernama

(AP pic) PETALING JAYA : A 25-year-old man from Selangor died after reportedly falling from a hotel building on the Thai resort island of Phuket yesterday morning. Thai police said the victim arrived in Phuket on Thursday with a group of more than 20 Malaysians, Bernama reported. He had been assigned to share a hotel room with three friends. 'At about 1am on Friday (local time), police received a report from hotel staff that a tourist had fallen from the building,' said the police report. The man was confirmed dead at a hospital in Patong from severe head injuries. The Malaysian consulate in Songkhla confirmed the incident and said the body was claimed by the victim's family this morning. 'The consulate assisted in transporting the remains from Patong district to Sadao province by road (and then) to the Bukit Kayu Hitam border. 'The family is scheduled to bring the body to Sungai Buloh for burial arrangements,' the consulate said, adding that it also helped facilitate the burial permit in Malaysia.

According to a report by Thai police, the victim arrived in Thailand on May 8 with a group of more than 20 Malaysian tourists. He had been assigned to share a hotel room with three friends. 'At around 1.00am on Friday (local time), the police received a report from hotel staff that a tourist had fallen from the building,' the report stated. The man was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Patong district at around 1.30am due to severe head injuries, the report added. The Malaysian Consulate in Songkhla confirmed the incident when contacted and said the remains were claimed by the victim's family on Saturday morning. 'The consulate assisted in transporting the remains from Patong district to Sadao province by road, up to the Bukit Kayu Hitam border. The family is scheduled to bring the body to Sungai Buloh for burial arrangements,' the consulate said, adding that it also helped facilitate the burial permit in Malaysia. — Bernama
