Tatchanai program aids 800 Indian students in STPM since 2018
PETALING JAYA: More than 800 Indian students have received guidance for the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) through the Tatchanai Teacher Programme since its inception in 2018. Senior Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Anbumani Balan revealed that over 250 of these students successfully secured placements in public universities. The mentoring initiative, backed by Deputy Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, is managed by the Johor Self-Help Association and Social I-Tenaga Association. Conducted online, the programme supports Indian students preparing for STPM examinations. This year, nearly RM200,000 in education incentives were distributed through partnerships with Yayasan Bank Rakyat and agencies under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), benefiting more than 300 high-performing students. Anbumani shared these details after officiating the 'Sathanayalar Santippu' ceremony at the Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple, which honoured over 100 top-performing Indian STPM students. The event was a collaboration between the two associations and the temple. Johor Self-Help Association chairman Krishnasamy Muniandy highlighted the programme's success as proof of the impact of community-driven efforts. RM1,000 aid for STPM, MUET top scorers

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah State Government's commitment to strengthening education through the Yayasan Sabah Group was further reinforced with the distribution of the Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS) assistance held on Friday (11 July) at Wisma MUIS. The event was officiated by the Sabah Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and Chairman of the TPNS Implementation Committee, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Arif. Also in attendance were the Director of Yayasan Sabah and Deputy Chairman of the TPNS Implementation Committee, Dato' Sri Haji Gulamhaidar @ Yusof bin Khan Bahadar, members of the TPNS Committee, as well as representatives from government agencies and educational institutions. This year's ceremony saw a total of 123 outstanding students. Among them, 74 students from the 2024 Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) and 22 students from the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) examinations each received a RM1,000 cash aid to ease their financial burden as they pursue higher education. In addition, five Master's degree students and 22 PhD students were also given financial aid. During the same ceremony, educational assistance was also extended to students under several existing initiatives, including the Bantuan Galakan Usaha Sekolah (BAGUS), Skim Umum Kecemerlangan Siswa (SUKSES), Bantuan Insentif Siswa Terbaik (BISTARI), Bantuan Tunai Pelajar (BANTU) and the Anugerah Kecemerlangan Sijil Akar (AKSA) as part of the continuous efforts to support the State's human capital development. TPNS is a proactive initiative by the Sabah State Government through the Yayasan Sabah Group aimed at alleviating the financial burden of low-income families. It also reflects the government's commitment to ensuring that education is accessible to all segments of society. Intellect without morals creates scammers, warns Kelantan MB
Nassuruddin stressed that academic success must be balanced with personal development, warning that students may easily lose direction once they join university. According to Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, the rise in cases involving highly skilled scammers, capable of deceiving senior officials, corporate figures and even national leaders, proves that intellect alone is not enough without strong ethical and religious guidance. 'They've managed to trick policemen and even leaders. This shows they're misusing their intelligence," he said. He made the remarks while speaking at the Kelantan State Outstanding Student Appreciation Ceremony held at Kota Darul Naim on Wednesday. At the event, 12 high-achieving students, including four national-level award recipients for outstanding performance in the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) and seven 10 Mumtaz achievers in the Malaysian Higher Religious Certificate (STAM) 2024, each received an RM1,000 incentive. Nassuruddin stressed that academic success must be balanced with personal development, warning that students may easily lose direction once they join university. 'In school, there are rules, discipline and a dress code. But at university, there's a cultural shock, more freedom, more open friendships and that's where many begin to drift,' he added. He stressed the importance of instilling a strong foundation in religious practices, such as maintaining prayer, respecting parents and using the Quran as a guide in life. 'Failing in these areas can lead to misconduct, even in those who excel academically. 'We don't want to produce students who succeed in exams but use their intelligence to harm society," he said. He urged students to continue building excellence, character and integrity through their university years and beyond, becoming valuable assets to both the state and the nation. 'The state government is fully committed to supporting education through various forms of assistance, including Yayasan Kelantan Darulnaim (YAKIN) loans, which can be converted into scholarships for outstanding students,' he said.
