Punjab to develop wide ranging sports infrastructure
LAHORE: As many as 175 new schemes for sports department will be launched under the ADP 2025-26. Under the schemes, the Nishtar Park Sports Complex will undergo major up-gradation, while new facilities including an Archery Sports Complex, Table Tennis Arena, and Board Games Sports Complex will be constructed. The Velodrome will be fully restored and spectator capacity at Punjab Stadium will also be increased. Baseball Sports Complex will be constructed in Lahore, while Paddle Tennis Courts will be developed in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Sialkot. Volleyball Courts and Indoor Sports Complexes will also be established. Sports stadiums in Jampur and Rajanpur will be rehabilitated and sports complexes in Chichawatni and Dera Ghazi Khan will also be constructed. The Bahawalpur Stadium will also be upgraded. Punjab Minister for Sports, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar held a meeting, here Monday in which decisions regarding the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025-26 and other key projects were taken. Addressing the meeting, the minister emphasized that new hockey turfs will be laid in Sahiwal and various other cities. He reiterated that the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab is to promote sports across the province, and that the Sports Department is working tirelessly to fulfil this goal. Ceasefire marks dawn of new era of peace in region: minister
LAHORE: Punjab's Minister for Sports, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, in a statement, said that the recent ceasefire has ushered in a new dawn of peace in the region. He emphasized that the entire nation salutes the sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces, who have bravely defended the motherland on every front. The Minister said that the war hysteria and conspiracies of the Modi government have been thoroughly exposed on the global stage. He highlighted that both political and military leaderships, united on one front, have effectively crushed the nefarious intentions of the enemy. "This national unity is our true strength," he asserted. Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar called upon the international community to play a meaningful role in ensuring lasting peace in the region. He stressed that the Pakistani nation stands united against all adversaries, and any malicious intent towards Pakistan will meet a dire fate. Expressing solidarity with the families of the martyrs, the Minister said that their sacrifices will never be forgotten. He stated that the Pakistan Army has dealt heavy blows to the enemy, and has given a strong and clear message on every front that Pakistan will never compromise on its sovereignty. He further stated that Modi's regime has become a threat not only to India but to the peace and stability of the entire region. Minister meets Dutch Ambassador
LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, held a significant meeting with H.E. Henny de Vries, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Pakistan, as attend the King's Day celebrations here in Lahore. The meeting underscored the growing importance of sports diplomacy in fostering international relations and youth engagement. On the occasion, the Minister highlighted key initiatives of the Sports Department Punjab, particularly those launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. These initiatives are designed to enhance sports infrastructure, promote youth participation, and revive traditional sports across the province. Minister Khokhar expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the Netherlands, with a specific focus on hockey—a sport historically cherished by both nations. He emphasized the potential for technical cooperation, capacity building, and mutual exchange programs to support player development, coaching, and sports science. The discussions were further enriched by the presence of legendary Dutch hockey player Floris Jan Bovelander and Pakistan's celebrated Olympian Touqeer Dar, symbolizing the shared legacy and passion for hockey.
