Acrobatic show at I-Day celebrations in Dharwad Dharwad: Pomp and gaiety marked the celebration of 79th Indepdendence Day at Dharwad on Friday. Apart from traditional hoisting of tricolour by educational institutions, govt and private offices and various social and cultural organisations, display of acrobatic skills by students, disciplined parade by NCC Cadets, Scouts and Guides, police, eexcise staff and home guards, patriotic dance and singing, felicitation of achievers and meritorious students were the highlights of the celebrations. Labour minister Santosh Lad, who is also district minister, hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour at the programme organised by the district administration at RN Shetty stadium. Chairman of Karnataka legislative council Basavaraj Horatti also participated in the celebrations as special guest. Delivering his I-Day address, Lad said Independence Day is not about having a holiday and enjoyment but to remember the sacrifice of lakhs of people who fought for the country's freedom and express our gratitude to them. "It is also the day to rededicate ourselves to the development and protection of the nation," he said. Listing the welfare measures launched by Siddaramaiah's govt in the state, he said the cooperation from all stakeholders is necessary for effective implementation of the schemes. Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu, Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar, SP Gunjan Arya, ZP CEO Bhuvanesh Patil, IAS probationer Ritika Varma, chairman of Karnataka Bal Vikas Academy Sangamesh Babaleswhar and other officials were present. Cultural activities by school children and various other troupes added fervour to the celebrations. 'Mallakhamba' acrobatic show by students of Kundgol taluk, groups dance by Rudra Master's team and Dance Karnataka Dance team won the accolades from the from various fields were felicitated by the district administration on the occasion.
