Dharwad: Pomp and gaiety marked the celebration of 79th Indepdendence Day at Dharwad on Friday. Apart from traditional hoisting of tricolour by educational institutions, govt and private offices and various social and cultural organisations, display of acrobatic skills by students, disciplined parade by NCC Cadets, Scouts and Guides, police, eexcise staff and home guards, patriotic dance and singing, felicitation of achievers and meritorious students were the highlights of the celebrations.
Labour minister Santosh Lad, who is also district minister, hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour at the programme organised by the district administration at RN Shetty stadium. Chairman of Karnataka legislative council Basavaraj Horatti also participated in the celebrations as special guest.
Delivering his I-Day address, Lad said Independence Day is not about having a holiday and enjoyment but to remember the sacrifice of lakhs of people who fought for the country's freedom and express our gratitude to them.
"It is also the day to rededicate ourselves to the development and protection of the nation," he said.
Listing the welfare measures launched by Siddaramaiah's govt in the state, he said the cooperation from all stakeholders is necessary for effective implementation of the schemes.
Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu, Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar, SP Gunjan Arya, ZP CEO Bhuvanesh Patil, IAS probationer Ritika Varma, chairman of Karnataka Bal Vikas Academy Sangamesh Babaleswhar and other officials were present.

Following the I-day celebration, the district stadium wore a bridal look.
Cultural show
The stadium was decorated with tricolour balloons and flowers. Cultural activities by school children and various other troupes added fervour to the celebrations. 'Mallakhamba' acrobatic show by students of Kundgol taluk, groups dance by Rudra Master's team and Dance Karnataka Dance team won the accolades from the spectators.Achievers from various fields were felicitated by the district administration on the occasion.

Amritsar: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour across Punjab's border districts. In Amritsar, the district-level event was held at Guru Nanak Stadium, where health and family welfare minister Balbir Singh hoisted the national flag. The minister urged citizens to celebrate the national festival with enthusiasm and reignite the spirit of patriotism, brotherhood, and harmony. The parade featured contingents of Punjab Police, a women's platoon, Home Guards, the Children's Police Band, and a strong presence from the NCC — including seven platoons and 214 cadets from the Amritsar NCC group, marching smartly in unison. Tricolour hoisted for first time in Maoist stronghold Abujhmarh
Raipur: Independence Day 2025 carried a special significance in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region as two landmark events unfolded — the tricolour was hoisted for the first time deep inside Abujhmarh region, a Maoist stronghold, and a memorial dedicated to 460 fallen CRPF personnel was inaugurated along Bastar's Kondagaon district. For decades, the rugged and forested expanse of Abujhmarh was synonymous with Maoist influence, where state presence was minimal and public celebrations were nearly impossible. On Friday, however, the 133rd battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) broke new ground by organising Independence Day functions at Company Operating Bases (COBs) Garpa, Kandulnar, and Horadi, alongside the battalion headquarters in Sonpur. At these once-inaccessible villages, the tricolour fluttered high as local residents, women, children, and teachers gathered with BSF personnel to mark 79th Independence Day. Constructed on a self-help basis, the CRPF Shaheed Smarak stands prominently on NH-30, outside the battalion camp, ensuring visibility for both locals and tourists. The memorial features the names of 20 gazetted officers, 44 subordinate officers, and 396 other ranks who made the ultimate sacrifice in counter-insurgency operations. Commandant Bhavesh Chaudhary of 188 Bn said the memorial will serve as "an enduring inspiration for future generations and a reminder of the CRPF's valour and commitment in the fight against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh."
