Robbie Williams brings surprise star guest out at Co-op Live gig in Manchester
Pop superstar Robbie Williams surprised fans at the first of his two Manchester Co-op Live gigs by bringing out a surprise star guest. Former Take That star Robbie is back in the city with his new Britpop Tour. Earlier gigs on the tour have seen a string of surprise guests join Robbie on stage - including boyband Five in London. On Tuesday night in Manchester, it was another X Factor star who joined Robbie for Relight My Fire. For Robbie announced to the crowds to huge cheers that Lucy Spraggan was joining him to sing. He had earlier brought out Thom Rylance from Wigan's own The Lottery Winners, who played as the support at the start of the night, to perform a selection of acoustic versions of his biggest hits. And Thom remained on stage to play as Lucy joined the duo. Wearing a black leatherette suit, Lucy delighted the crowd singing along to the Take That chart-topper alongside Robbie. The pals embraced at the end of the song, as Robbie said: "Show her the love she deserves." Lucy appeared in The X Factor back in 2012 and has gone on to enjoy chart success as a solo artist. Meanwhile The Lottery Winners frontman Thom had earlier hailed the gig "the best night of my life" after playing the support slot at the sold out Co-op Live arena. When he rejoined Robbie on stage during the "C stage" section of the show, the two singers bantered about what their double act would be called, settling on "The Balls". Robbie returns to Co-op Live for the second of his two shows on Wednesday night.

'An Evening of Radiohead' is an absolute must-see for any fan
While I've seen hundreds of bands over the years, there's one I've sadly never been able to catch live – my all-time favourite, Radiohead. So when I discovered there was a tribute show being held at Manchester Cathedral on my 30th birthday, I just knew I couldn't miss out on the opportunity. Hosted by Let Me In, the incredible performance took place during the event provider's UK Cathedral and Minster tour following a sold-out run in 2024. READ MORE: Sabrina Carpenter hits back after crowd erupts into boos at Manchester Co-op Live gig READ MORE: Review: Teddy Swims delivers show packed full of hits and mammoth vocals at Co-op Live And the setting couldn't have been dreamier – Manchester Cathedral providing a stunning backdrop for the journey through Radiohead's 30-year catalogue. The show brought together a full live band complete with vocalists and the nationally renowned Mike Nowland String Quartet. The night was a spectacular celebration of Radiohead's incredible work, spanning hits and lesser-known gems from albums like OK Computer, In Rainbows and The Bends. And though I initially had doubts over seeing a cover band, I must say I was absolutely blown away by the event. Having been desperate to see Radiohead live since the age of 15, it genuinely felt as close as I could possibly get to the real deal. Every song was delivered with such passion, showcasing the band's ability to navigate melancholic rock anthems to more experimental pieces - capturing Thom Yorke's distinctive voice with impressive accuracy. Under the direction of Christopher Buckle, the band – featuring talented local musicians like Alfie Woods, Bruce Higgs, Daniel Anketell, Josh Semans, Lydia Karaviotis and musical director Ewan Steady – created a powerful and emotional performance. But it was the addition of the exceptional string quartet – Mike Nowland, Mathias Svensson, Caroline Boddimead and Hannah Paterson – that brought a truly magical depth to the event. If you're a huge Radiohead fan like me, An Evening of Radiohead really is a must-see. The night was a perfect mix of nostalgia and fresh interpretations of the band's music and a truly unforgettable experience in a breathtaking venue. For tickets, visit the link by clicking here.

Huge new plans for Mayfield Park revealed
Nearly 900 flats could be built around Mayfield Park in a huge regeneration of the neighbourhood - which also expands green space. Mayfield Park was hailed as the city centre's first new green space in more than a century. Previously, it was unloved wasteland sandwiched between the Mancunian Way, Mayfield Depot, and Piccadilly Station, largely used for warehousing until its closure in 2018. READ MORE: Sabrina Carpenter hits back after crowd erupts into boos at Manchester Co-op Live gig READ MORE: Two homes slapped with court orders after months of misery for neighbours The hope for Mayfield is it will become 'a go-to destination in the city for locals and visitors', centred around the park. Developers Landsec always maintained the green oasis was just the start of transforming the area — and the newly-submitted planning application confirms their ambition for the next few years. 'Since opening the park in 2022, we've been on a mission to continue to grow Mayfield, so it really feels like you're working and living in a park," Mike Hood, from developer Landsec, said. "This opportunity doesn't exist in Manchester, so we want to change that. 'The proposed expansion of green space in this first phase, with homes alongside workplaces, is extremely exciting. 'It's easy to forget much of this part of the city was disused, derelict and unloved just a few years ago.' Now final details of the proposals have been confirmed. Four apartment blocks are planned for Mayfield, which will contain 879 homes in total. They will be seven, nine, 23, and 28 storeys tall and have been designed by shedkm, the firm behind the Kampus development. Plans show the 287 one-bedroom apartments, 545 two beds, and 47 three beds are all listed for 'market housing'. But Landsec added it has 'an ambition to deliver 20pc affordable housing across the new urban district', pending a 'viability appraisal' to 'determine the levels of affordable housing provision for the site'. Residents will be able to get home via a 'new 180-metre, plant-lined street' running parallel to Mancunian Way, which developers argue will 'improve walking and cycle connectivity to, and from, the city centre and east Manchester'. Development will also increase the size of the park, from six-and-a-half acres to 10, plant 123 new trees, and install new seating areas. A rock garden and water features are being touted as new highlights of the expanded Mayfield Park, which has a popular play park with seven slides — one of which runs across the River Irk, which was uncovered as the industrial estate was converted into luscious green space. The project will build 325,000 sq ft of offices for thousands of staff, and 60,000 sq ft of retail space, following the first Mayfield building. Work on that office block, called the Republic, is set to begin in 2025. A second workspace and a transport hub, which will feature the city's biggest bicycle parking hub, will start soon after.
