Janmashtami celebrated with festive fervour
1 2 Jaipur: The Pink City turned into a canvas of devotion and festivity Saturday as thousands of devotees celebrated Janmashtami with grandeur. From historic temples to bustling markets, every corner of Jaipur resonated with chants, rituals, and vibrant cultural events. The day began before dawn at Govind Devji temple, where the special Mangla Jhanki at 4:30 am unveiled the deity in new yellow attire. The Mangla and Gwal aartis drew massive gatherings, with long queues stretching from Jaleb Chowk to the temple premises. To ensure order, the administration created four separate queues—for pass holders, barefoot devotees, worshippers with footwear, and those in the Jagmohan category. At Radha Damodar temple in Chaura Rasta, traditions dating back nearly 500 years were observed. Here, Krishna is worshipped as a 2.5-year-old child, with Janmashtami celebrated during the day and Nandotsav in the evening—a practice followed for the past 300 years. In Vaishali Nagar, Chitrakoot Stadium became a festive hotspot as Samras Bharat Seva Sansthan hosted a grand Janmashtami programme. Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, MLA Gopal Sharma, and JMC-Greater Mayor Somya Gurjar attended the event. The Dahi Handi competition, featuring teams of youngsters above 14, electrified the crowd, while the Bal Gopal contest saw children dressed as Krishna. Across the Walled City, shops selling idols, costumes, and decorative items overflowed with buyers, while children dressed as Radha and Krishna added colour to the streets. 'Tu bahar mil': Convict, lawyer threaten Delhi judge after conviction
A convict and his lawyer allegedly abused and threatened a woman judge in an open Delhi courtroom after a conviction in a cheque bounce case, Bar and Bench reported. The situation turned violent when the accused even tried to hurl an object at Judicial Magistrate (NI Act) Shivangi Mangla after she ruled against him. He further instructed his lawyer to take any step necessary to secure a favourable order. In a threatening remark recorded in the court's April 2 order, the accused told the judge: 'Tu hai kya cheez ... .ki tu bahar mil dekhte hai kaise zinda ghar jaati hai.... [Who even are you... just meet me outside and let's see how you make it back home alive].' Judge Mangla had convicted the accused under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act (dishonor of cheque) and had directed him to furnish bail bonds under Section 437A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) at the next hearing. However, instead of complying, the accused and his counsel allegedly began harassing the judge both mentally and physically, pressuring her to resign from her post, the court order noted. They continued their misconduct, demanding an acquittal, and even threatened to file false complaints against her to force her resignation, it added. Standing firm, Judge Mangla made it clear in her order that she would take the necessary steps against the accused. 'Still the undersigned stand against all the odds and always do needful in favour of justice. The undersigned shall be taking appropriate measures against the accused before National Commission Women, Delhi for such threatening and harassment,' the court stated. The judge also issued a show cause notice to the convict's lawyer, advocate Atul Kumar, asking him to explain why criminal contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for misbehaviour in court. 'Court notice be issued to counsel for accused Sh. Atul Kumar to show cause in writing providing relevant explanation for the conduct shown by him today and further to explain as to why he shall not be referred to the Hon'ble High Court for initiating criminal contempt proceedings against him for such misbehaviour.'

‘Meet us outside, and we will see how you return home alive': Convict threatens woman judge inside Delhi courtroom
A convict and his lawyer recently threatened and hurled abuses at a woman judge inside a courtroom in Delhi after a conviction in a six-year-old cheque bounce case. ' Tu hai kya cheez ………….ki tu bahar mil dekhte hai kaise zinda ghar jaati hai (who are you even? Meet us outside, and we will see how you return home alive),' the convict told the judge on April 2 as per the order passed by Judicial Magistrate First Class (NI Act) Shivangi Mangla of Dwarka Court the same day. She convicted the accused under Section 138 (dishonour of cheque) of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Judge Mangla also said in her order that he held an object in his hand, which he tried to throw at her after she passed the conviction order. After hearing the judgment not in his favour, he 'erupted with anger' at the judge in the open court as to how the judgment of conviction could be passed, the judge noted in the order. He started harassing the judge in 'unofficial Hindi language with commentary against the mother' of the judge, she added. 'Then again they both (convict and counsel) harassed me mentally and physically to resign from job and they both again harassed to acquit the accused else they will file complaint against me and forcibly arrange my resignation,' the judge said in her order. The judge, in the order, said appropriate action should be initiated against the convict before the National Commission for Women (NCW) for the threats and harassment. She also ordered a showcause notice to be issued to his counsel, Athul Kumar, to provide in writing the explanation for his conduct and why he should not be referred to the Delhi High Court for initiating criminal contempt proceedings for misbehaviour. Three days later, on April 5, the judge sentenced the convict to simple imprisonment for 22 months and directed him to pay a Rs 6.65 lakh fine in the cheque case. The convict's counsel requested a lenient sentence, stating that his client was a 63-year-old retired government teacher with three unemployed sons. In her order dated April 5, she also referred the matter to the principal district and sessions judge for the South West district in Dwarka for referral to the Delhi High Court to take up appropriate proceedings regarding the April 2 order.
