Upgrade Rs700 cr hosp into a MediCity, CM urges Manipal, Temasek
Nagpur: CM
Devendra Fadnavis
has proposed a grand MediCity (medical city) in Nagpur, on the lines of the EduCity in Navi Mumbai. Speaking about his idea during an event at Navi Mumbai on Tuesday, Fadnavis suggested to private stakeholders that their proposed investment for a multi-specialty hospital could be tweaked for a grander vision.
A MoU was signed between the govt of Maharashtra, Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd, and Temasek at Navi Mumbai. This collaboration aims to establish a 350-bed multi-speciality hospital in Nagpur with a proposed investment of Rs700 crore. This proposed hospital is expected to create 3,000 direct employment opportunities.
While the hospital proposal still stands, CM Fadnavis suggested that the stakeholders consider developing a MediCity, similar to the EduCity in Navi Mumbai. The EduCity will be spread over a sprawling 250acre campus, located within a 5km radius of the Navi Mumbai International Airport. This futuristic hub — led by CIDCO — is envisioned as a global education hub, offering seamless connectivity to students and faculty from around the world.
Maharashtra aims to host at least 10 world-class international universities within this EduCity, establishing a dynamic ecosystem for higher education, medical innovation, sports, and research.
