Sheikh Mansoor: Olympic values should shape daily life

Dubai: Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of UAE Olympic Committee, has called for Olympic values to be embedded in daily life across sectors including health, education, the arts, environment, and entertainment. Speaking at a meeting of the Committee's Board of Directors in Dubai, Sheikh Mansoor said the UAE's sporting achievements are underpinned by values that reflect the nation's broader development — including peace, friendship, excellence, and respect. 'The growth of the Olympic Movement is directly linked to athletes' performance on the international stage,' he said, adding that every effort is focused on seeing the UAE flag raised at the world's most prestigious sporting events. Renaming national committee The meeting, chaired by Sheikh Mansoor, was attended by Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sport and Vice-President of the UAE Olympic Committee; Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General; and other board members. Among key decisions was the move to initiate legal procedures to officially rename the National Olympic Committee as the UAE Olympic Committee — aligning with international naming standards used by Olympic bodies around the world. Record 23 medals The Committee also celebrated a record-breaking performance by UAE delegation at the third GCC Beach Games held in Muscat from April 5 to 11. The 330-strong team brought home 23 medals — eight gold, eight silver and seven bronze — making it the UAE's best result in the history of the event. Sheikh Mansoor applauded the athletes and national federations for their preparation and commitment. The UAE has consistently taken part in all three editions of the GCC Beach Games, with five medals won in Bahrain (2010), ten in Qatar (2015), and now a historic 23 in Oman.
