Dubai Community Development Authority Signs Agreement to Empower People of Determination

Dubai's Community Development Authority (CDA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Maseer Initiatives, aiming to enhance inclusion and community engagement for People of Determination through cultural and awareness-driven programmes.
The agreement, signed in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination, focuses on strengthening institutional partnerships to foster empowerment and social cohesion.
Her Excellency Maitha Mohammed Al Shamsi, CEO of the Social Empowerment Sector at CDA, and Her Excellency Budoor Saeed Al Raqbani, Director General of Maseer Initiatives, formalised the partnership in a ceremony attended by representatives from various government and community bodies.
Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of CDA, said the partnership aligns with the goals of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which prioritises the inclusion of all social groups. 'This collaboration represents a powerful model for community empowerment,'
she noted.
The MoU outlines joint efforts to develop and implement a series of cultural and knowledge-based initiatives, including public awareness events such as Arab Deaf Week, artistic showcases, and inclusive dialogue sessions. These initiatives are designed to highlight the contributions of People of Determination and promote a more inclusive society.
Her Excellency Budoor Al Raqbani added that the partnership will help position People of Determination as active voices in cultural and social discussions, reinforcing their roles as leaders and creators.
The initiative marks a significant step in supporting Dubai's broader vision of social justice, sustainable development, and community-driven impact.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stated that equipping leaders with the right tools and knowledge will "drive a culture of positive transformation, fuel national ambitions and empower leaders capable of driving innovation." The chief AI officers were nominated following the UAE Cabinet's approval, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to formally establish the role across federal ministries and government entities. The selection was based on the candidates' ability to navigate the rapidly evolving technological landscape and their readiness to integrate AI into government operations. Led by the Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications office, the programme is held in collaboration with the University of Birmingham in Dubai.

Ajman Port will undergo an expansion under an AED 1 billion investment agreement between Department of Port & Customs Ajman (DPC) and Hutchison Ports. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will draw out a development plan for the port that will enhance handling efficiency, attract new shipping lines, align with digital transformation plans and solidify its position as a vital logistics hub in the region. It will also launch AI-powered programmess for port operations through an integrated 15-year plan aimed at managing, operating and developing the port. After witnessing the signing of the MoU, His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, said the move will play a key role in stimulating the local economy by supporting supply operations and facilitating export and import activities through the provision of sustainable, eco-friendly infrastructure, while focusing on developing national talents and equipping them with modern port management skills. "We believe that port development is an investment in the future of trade, food security, and economic growth," he added. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Department of Port & Customs Ajman, noted that the MoU marks an important step in reinforcing Ajman Port's position as a strategic hub in the UAE and the region's maritime transport network.

Strong and growing UAE–Philippines relationship In his opening speech, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak congratulated the Filipino community on this important national day and said, "I am delighted to be with you this evening to celebrate the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.""On behalf of the people of the United Arab Emirates, I extend our heartfelt congratulations and warmest greetings to the people of the Philippines here and around the world. This day marks not only your independence, but your enduring spirit of resilience, community, and optimism. It is a day of pride, and one you have every reason to celebrate, said His Excellency."He added that the UAE is pleased to call the Philippines a close friend and valued partner. "Across this nation, and across the decades, hundreds of thousands of Filipino people have made their mark. Submissions can be a short story, a poem, a letter, an essay, or another creative expression, and written in either Arabic or English.'He expressed confidence that many of the most moving and powerful entries will come from the Filipino community – from those who arrived with a dream and built a future, from mothers and fathers raising families, from nurses and teachers, from innovators and caregivers, and from artists and engineers.'Your stories matter,' His Excellency emphasised, 'and the rest of us would love to hear from you.'He urged everyone to visit the website and submit their called on the audience, saying, 'Please encourage your families, your children, your co-workers, and your neighbours. 'What the UAE Means to Me' Writing Competition The 'What the UAE Means to Me' writing competition, supported by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and Sandooq Al Watan invites UAE citizens and residents to share their personal stories and experiences, celebrating the nation's vibrant culture, heritage, and values of tolerance. Participants can submit entries in various formats—short stories, articles, Nabati and classical poetry, reflections, or letters, focusing on their connection to the UAE's cohesive community and national identity. This initiative aims to strengthen social bonds, promote cultural diversity, and foster pride in the UAE's unique qualities. Selected writings will be published and widely distributed, amplifying voices that embody the UAE's spirit of unity and coexistence, making it a meaningful contribution to community engagement and national pride. Full Day of Celebrations Also speaking at the event, Honourable Hans Cacdac, Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers of the Philippines, added, "Kalayaan not only commemorates our independence but also highlights the strong partnership that enables Filipinos to contribute meaningfully to both nations." Supported by The Philippine Business Council - Dubai and Northern Emirates, Dubai Police, and Dubai Immigration, the event was further distinguished by the attendance of His Excellency Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the General Directorate for Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai. The event also saw the attendance of Honourable Arvic V. Arevalo, Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi; Honourable Marford Angeles, Consul General of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and Northern Emirates; and Manal Obaid Bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team of the UAE Food Bank. The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi opened in 1980, followed by the UAE Embassy in Manila in 1989. Since then, bilateral cooperation has expanded significantly, and today the UAE is home to hundreds of thousands of Filipinos who play a vital role in many key sectors and in the country's continued development journey.
