Morocco Records Over 67,000 Moroccans' Arrivals Daily as Part of Marhaba 2025

Rabat – Morocco records more than 67,000 Moroccan arrivals daily as part of the 2025 Marhaba operation, an initiative facilitating the transit of Moroccans living abroad (MREs) during the summer season. July 14 recorded the highest number of arrivals of Moroccans residing abroad, according to government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said on Thursday, noting that past and current weeks recorded more than 67,000 MREs arrivals on a daily basis. This upward trend is expected to continue through this and the following weeks, stressing that the maritime plan has been strengthened with the deployment of 29 ships operated by seven maritime companies across 12 routes connecting Moroccan ports with those in Spain, France, and Italy. The routes offer a total capacity of 7.3 million passengers and two million vehicles, marking a 3% increase compared to last year. Air travel also expanded to reach 500,000 passengers per week, Baitas said, noting that 59 airlines have been authorized to operate around 2,135 weekly flights connecting Moroccan airports with 141 international destinations. Baitas reported MAD 530 million investment to improve passenger reception facilities at ports of Tanger Med, Nador, Al Hoceima, and Tangier, noting that the medical coverage spans approximately 3,578 kilometers across major roadways. The Marahaba operation kicked off on June 10 and will continue until September, with 26 welcome sites operating across the country and key European countries. Tags: MarhabaMarhaba operation

Strike averted at Algeciras port as Marhaba 2025 traffic ramps up

The strike scheduled for July 20 at the Port of Algeciras has been called off after a last-minute agreement was reached between maritime pilot workers and management, with mediation by the Coordinadora TPA union. The decision follows weeks of tension within the Maritime Pilots' Association and comes just as the strike was set to coincide with the peak of the «Marhaba» operation. According to Spanish media, the agreement includes significant improvements in working conditions, recognition of longstanding professional demands, and a wage review to address the decline in purchasing power in recent years. Maritime pilots had initially planned to strike from July 20 to August 20, during the height of the crossing operation for Moroccans living abroad returning to the kingdom, a move that risked severely disrupting traffic at one of Spain's busiest ports.

Consulate in Bordeaux brings services closer to Moroccans across southwestern France

After a series of community outreach efforts in Guéret, Brive-la-Gaillarde, Libourne, and Angoulême, the Consulate General of Morocco in Bordeaux wraps up this week with its final stop in Limoges (Haute-Vienne department) as part of the Marhaba 2025 operation. This initiative, spearheaded by the Moroccan consular team in Bordeaux, reflects a proactive approach rooted in a strong commitment to serve members of the Moroccan community living in departments far from the consulate's headquarters, while also fostering dialogue and connection, according to the consulate. At each stop, numerous services were provided with special attention to the quality of reception, guidance, and assistance, alongside the efficient handling of requests. In certain cases, such as for the elderly or people with reduced mobility, home visits were arranged at the request of their families. These efforts have been ongoing since the launch of the Marhaba operation, with a focus on accessibility and proximity to consular services, while also reinforcing the relationship between the Moroccan diaspora and national institutions. In a statement to MAP, the Consul General of Morocco in Bordeaux, Nouzha Sahel, stressed that «this is a continued mobilization of the Kingdom's consular services in Bordeaux». According to the consulate, the initiative has been warmly welcomed by Moroccan nationals across the district and was made possible through coordination with local partners, the dedication of community associations, and the support of volunteer compatriots who helped ensure smooth operations on the ground.

'Marhaba': Morocco Prepares for Transit of 7.5 Million Passengers, 2 Million Vehicles via 13 Maritime Routes- Minister

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, announced on Monday at the House of Representatives that, in preparation for the 'Marhaba' operation, his department has taken a range of measures, in close coordination with all stakeholders, to ensure the transport of 7.5 million passengers and 2 million vehicles via 13 maritime routes. In response to a question on "transport fares across all modes," Kayouh stated that 29 ships have been mobilized, with a weekly capacity of 500,000 passengers and 130,000 vehicles, distributed over 13 maritime lines, totaling 7.5 million travelers, 2 million vehicles, and 7,800 crossings. He added that authorizations have been granted to 59 airline companies to operate approximately 2,135 weekly flights between Moroccan airports and 141 international airports. Kayouh also noted that the Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has mobilized four additional aircraft for the summer period and will offer a total of 6.6 million seats- an increase of 700,000 seats compared to 2024- reflecting RAM's commitment and involvement in efforts to facilitate the return of Moroccans residing abroad. The minister recalled that, as part of its strategic choices, the Kingdom adopted the 'Open Sky' policy in 2006 - a decision that has paid off, with over 50 airline companies, including several low-cost carriers, now operating in Morocco and connecting the country to numerous destinations, mainly in Europe. Morocco Launches 2025 Marhaba Operation to Welcome Moroccans Abroad

Rabat – Morocco has officially launched the 2025 edition of Operation Marhaba, a long-running campaign to welcome and help Moroccans living abroad on their summer return home. The operation is an annual initiative by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity to welcome the Moroccan diaspora. This year's 25th edition kicked off on June 10, and it's bigger than ever with 26 welcome sites across Morocco and key European countries. The foundation, working with partners, has opened two new sites at Laayoune and Dakhla airports. This means 20 centers are now operational in Morocco's main ports and airports, helping travelers with arrivals and departures. Plus, there are special 'receiving rooms' at rest stops and border crossings like Bab Sebta and Mellil to make peak travel times smoother. Marhaba also has a strong presence in six European ports: Genoa (Italy), Sète and Marseille (France), and Motril, Almería, and Algeciras (Spain). These ports are key entry points for many Moroccans living abroad, and support teams are on hand to offer guidance and assistance even before travelers reach Morocco. Operation Marhaba also provides comprehensive support through a large team of over 1,200 people. This includes social workers, physicians, paramedics, foundation personnel, and volunteers who are available from June 10 to September 15. The entire operation is overseen by a central coordination office in Rabat. This office monitors activities at all reception points, manages resources, and ensures quick responses to any issues. It also runs a 24/7 dedicated helpline for travelers, accessible from Morocco and abroad via specific phone numbers for various countries. Operation Marhaba remains more than a logistical endeavor. It mirrors Morocco's ongoing relationship with its diaspora, a gesture of hospitality and solidarity rooted in shared identity and care. Speaking before the House of Councilors last week, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita outlined this year's key arrangements. The maritime component will include 29 vessels operated by seven shipping companies across 12 routes linking ports in Italy, France, and Spain. Around MAD 28 million ($2.8 million) has been dedicated to enhancing reception infrastructure at Tanger-Med port. This year's operation expects an exceptional flow of roughly 3.5 million travelers, primarily Moroccans living in Europe, marking a 4% rise compared to previous years.
