Morocco Records Over 67,000 Moroccans' Arrivals Daily as Part of Marhaba 2025

Rabat – Morocco records more than 67,000 Moroccan arrivals daily as part of the 2025 Marhaba operation, an initiative facilitating the transit of Moroccans living abroad (MREs) during the summer season.
July 14 recorded the highest number of arrivals of Moroccans residing abroad, according to government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said on Thursday, noting that past and current weeks recorded more than 67,000 MREs arrivals on a daily basis.
This upward trend is expected to continue through this and the following weeks, stressing that the maritime plan has been strengthened with the deployment of 29 ships operated by seven maritime companies across 12 routes connecting Moroccan ports with those in Spain, France, and Italy.
The routes offer a total capacity of 7.3 million passengers and two million vehicles, marking a 3% increase compared to last year.
Air travel also expanded to reach 500,000 passengers per week, Baitas said, noting that 59 airlines have been authorized to operate around 2,135 weekly flights connecting Moroccan airports with 141 international destinations.
Baitas reported MAD 530 million investment to improve passenger reception facilities at ports of Tanger Med, Nador, Al Hoceima, and Tangier, noting that the medical coverage spans approximately 3,578 kilometers across major roadways.
The Marahaba operation kicked off on June 10 and will continue until September, with 26 welcome sites operating across the country and key European countries. Tags: MarhabaMarhaba operation

Mechanical tourism booms in Tangier as Spaniards seek affordable car repairs

Mechanical tourism is firmly establishing itself in Morocco. Each summer, hundreds of Spaniards make the journey across the Strait of Gibraltar... to have their cars repaired. Tangier has almost inadvertently become North Africa's go-to destination for affordable auto repairs. It often begins with a repair quote considered «exorbitant» in Spain. Take Marcos, a resident of Madrid, who owns a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser. He was facing a staggering 4,000-euro bill for a complete transmission overhaul and turbocharger replacement. A quick search online led him to a car forum recommending Tangier. He followed the advice: for under 1,000 euros, including parts, his vehicle was good as new in just a few days. According to Spanish outlet El Confidencial Digital, labor costs in Morocco are around 2 euros per hour. In Spain, they can be a hundred times higher. Even a full paint job costs 500 euros, a price that would only cover a single panel in Madrid or Seville. The savings extend further: a round-trip ferry from Tarifa to Tangier is less than 200 euros. Some even plan their vacations around a visit to the mechanic. What started as a makeshift solution is becoming a regular practice for thousands of Spaniards. Moroccan garages are building a reputation, particularly those that use new parts directly supplied by manufacturers. However, the rapid growth of this parallel industry isn't without its downsides. Illegal workshops are emerging, especially near Ceuta and Melilla. Some offer last-minute fixes before technical inspections, often without official approval. The Spanish newspaper highlights «spare parts of dubious origin, including those stolen in Spain», though such instances are said to be «infrequent». Additionally, cross-border auto repairs raise environmental concerns. Morocco's more lenient waste management regulations allow for cost savings but pose significant ecological risks.

New ferry terminal in Nador-Beni Ensar enhances travel experience for Moroccans abroad

In Nador-Beni Ensar, travelers will encounter a transformed port. A state-of-the-art ferry terminal has just been inaugurated, primarily catering to those returning home for the summer. With more space, enhanced efficiency, and improved facilities, it aims to ensure smoother arrivals, particularly for Moroccans residing abroad. Covering 6,000 square meters, the terminal can accommodate up to 2,700 passengers, as reported by Le360. With cutting-edge amenities, a designated vehicle area, and a streamlined check-in counter, every aspect is designed to minimize wait times and enhance the travel experience. «This terminal is much more than just a transit point», says Driss Lefdaoui, the port director. He views it as a meaningful gesture towards the diaspora, a demonstration that they are valued and remembered. He adds that the project «embodies the ambition of a forward-looking Morocco, eager to strengthen ties with its diaspora and prioritize the warm welcome of Moroccans from around the globe». The unveiling of this ferry terminal also signals a larger vision: to position the port as a catalyst for regional development, serving as a true gateway to the Mediterranean.
