Contraband fags seized in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Marine Police Force (PPM) seized 387 cartons of smuggled cigarettes from a neighbouring country, valued at RM149,318.40 excluding tax, during a raid at a mangrove area in Kampung Puyut, on Thursday. Commander of PPM Region 4 Sabah, ACP Nazri Ibrahim, said the operation at 5.20am found 238 cartons of Astro Black Menthol cigarettes and 149 cartons of A One Mild Menthol cigarettes hidden in the mangrove area. 'The raid was conducted based on PPM intelligence at the location. The cigarettes were hidden there to avoid detection by authorities. 'So far, no individual has come forward to claim ownership of the items,' he said in a statement, Friday. He added that the case will be investigated under the Customs Act 1967. Marine police seize 387 cartons of smuggled cigarettes in Lahad Datu
MARINE POLICE SEIZE 387 CARTONS OF SMUGGLED CIGARETTES IN LAHAD DATU LAHAD DATU, May 23 (Bernama) – Marine Police Force (PPM) seized 387 cartons of smuggled cigarettes from a neighbouring country, valued at RM149,318.40 excluding tax, during a raid at a mangrove area in Kampung Puyut yesterday. Commander of PPM Region 4 Sabah, ACP Nazri Ibrahim, said that the operation at 5:20 AM found 238 cartons of Astro Black Menthol cigarettes and 149 cartons of A One Mild Menthol cigarettes hidden in the mangrove area. Man in Klang busted using school van to smuggle untaxed booze
PETALING JAYA: A 26-year-old man was caught using a school van to transport untaxed alcohol during a raid at a parking lot in Taman Sri Gadong yesterday. During the noon raid, the Marine Intelligence Unit of the Marine Police Force (PPM) Port Klang inspected a lorry and a school van at the scene. Officers found 56 boxes and 30 crates of various alcoholic beverages believed to be untaxed, worth RM10,664.40, with an estimated tax value of RM36,889.57. 'The vehicles seized are valued at RM70,000, bringing the total value of the confiscation to RM117,553.97. 'The suspect and the seized items were brought to the PPM Port Klang base for further action,' he said in a statement today. The suspect, who admitted to being part of a distribution network operating in Klang, is now under investigation. 'The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, Section 74 of the Excise Act 1976, and the Road Transport Act 1987,' he stated.

KLANG: A man's attempt to transfer untaxed alcoholic beverages into a school van to avoid detection by authorities and distribute them around Klang failed when he was arrested in a parking area at Taman Sri Gadong here yesterday. In the raid conducted at noon, the Marine Intelligence Unit of the Marine Police Force (PPM) Port Klang, Selangor, inspected a lorry and a school van. PPM Region One Commander Assistant Commissioner Rusley Chi Ari said the 26-year-old man was caught in the act of transferring the liquor from the lorry into the van. He said that upon inspection, officers discovered various brands of alcoholic beverages believed to be untaxed — a total of 56 boxes and 30 crates — worth RM10,664.40, with an estimated tax value of RM36,889.57. "The vehicles seized are valued at RM70,000, bringing the total value of the confiscation to RM117,553.97. "The suspect and the seized items were brought to the PPM Port Klang base for further action," he said in a statement today. He added that during questioning, the suspect admitted to being involved in the distribution of untaxed liquor in the Klang area. "The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, Section 74 of the Excise Act 1976, and the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
