Giroud, Delgado each score for LAFC in 2-2 tie with Montreal
Olivier Giroud and Mark Delgado each scored a goal for Los Angeles FC on Saturday night in a 2-2 tie with CF Montreal. Montreal scored multiple goals in the same game for the first time since a 3-2 loss to Atlanta in the season opener on Feb. 22. Hugo Lloris stopped five shots for LAFC (6-4-5). Montreal defender Dawid Bugaj redirected a ball-in but it Giroud was there for a one-touch finish from point-blank range to make it 2-2 in the 77th minute. Prince Owusu had his shot from the top of the area blocked but the loose ball rolled seemingly directly to Giacomo Vrioni, who held a defender on his hip before spinning and rolling a shot inside the right post in the fifth minute and Owusu converted from the penalty spot in the 22nd to give Montreal a 2-0 lead. Mark Delgado put away a cross played in by Nathan Ordaz, blasting a one-touch shot from near the penalty spot that deflected off goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois into the net in the 38th minute. Sirois finished with seven saves for Montreal (1-9-5). Montreal rebounded from a 6-1 loss to Toronto last week.

Brian White scores twice, Whitecaps rally to tie LAFC 2-2 and extend unbeaten streak to 11
Brian White scored on a header in the 70th minute and the Vancouver Whitecaps rallied to tie LAFC 2-2 on Sunday to extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games across all competitions. The Whitecaps (8-1-3) lead all MLS teams with 27 points and hold a five-point edge over Minnesota in the Western Conference. They are 6-0-5 during the streak. On the tying goal, second-half substitution Ali Ahmed headed the ball into the center of the box and White headed it into the net. White also scored in the 26th minute to pull Vancouver within a goal. White is tied for the MLS goals lead with eight and has 13 goals across all competitions. He returned to the lineup Sunday after missing a victory last week over Real Salt Lake because of a tight hamstring. Mark Delgado opened the scoring for Los Angeles (5-4-3) in the eighth minute, and Denis Bouanga connected on a penalty kick in the 19th.

White at the double as Whitecaps fight back against LAFC
American White, now joint top scorer in MLS with eight goals in nine appearances, is making a strong case for a place in the USA squad with 13 goals in 17 games in all competitions. Mark Delgado put LAFC ahead in the 18th minute at the Western Conference leaders, firing home at the back post after a goalmouth scramble. LAFC doubled their lead 11 minutes later when, after Ryan Hollingshead was brought down in the box by Edier Ocampo, Denis Bouanga slotted home a penalty. The Whitecaps, finalists in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, got themselves back in the game in the 26th minute when Sebastian Berhalter whipped a free-kick into the box and White rose to nod home. Vancouver got on level terms with 20 minutes of the game remaining when, from a cross from the left, Ali Ahmed headed back across the face of goal and White was there again to convert with a simple header. LA created the late pressure but were denied by Vancouver's Japanese keeper Yohei Takaoka, who made a series of fine saves. "I think we are a little disappointed with the goals that we gave up and we dug ourselves a hole early in the first half," said White. "But credit to the team to make a good little bit of a comeback, unfortunately we weren't able to get that winner," he added. The Whitecaps are looking to be the first Canadian club to win the CONCACAF Champions Cup when they face Mexican giants Cruz Azul in Mexico City in the final on June 1.
