CM meets celebs to finalise I-Day festivities

PHOTO: JALAL QURESHI/EXPRESS Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday chaired a high-level meeting featuring prominent figures from the fields of media, sports, arts, and civil society to discuss preparations for this year's Independence Day celebrations, which will be held under the theme Marqa-e-Haq. Attendees at the meeting included senior members of CM Shah's cabinet, including Sharjeel Inam Memon, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, and Zulfiqar Shah. Also present were top government officials, including Secretary to CM Raheem Shaikh, Secretary General Administration Mohammad Ali Khoso, Secretary Information, and Secretary Culture Khair Mohammad. A host of well-known national personalities, such as social activist Faisal Edhi, squash legend Jahangir Khan, former cricketer Moin Khan, senior actors Mustafa Qureshi, Munawar Saeed and Ahmad Shah, veteran journalist Ghazi Salahuddin, and athletes, including former cricket captain Younis Khan and sprint champion Naseem Hameed, were also in attendance. Speaking on the occasion, CM Shah said this year's Independence Day celebrations are intended not only to mark the birth of the nation but also to commemorate Pakistan's enduring struggle for justice and truth. "This is not just a celebration of independence - it is a remembrance of our historical resistance to tyranny," he stated, calling on all intellectuals, artistes, and civil society leaders to contribute actively. He added that the purpose of involving celebrities and prominent figures is to seek their input and to encourage broad-based participation in this national celebration.

CM opens ‘My Karachi' exhibition: ‘Nation celebrates Independence Day with focus on Battle of Rights'
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah stated that this year, the nation celebrates Independence Day with a focus on the 'Marqa-e-Haq' (Battle of Rights), recalling the significant events of May when India attempted a conspiracy, to which Pakistan responded strongly. Shah highlighted the unity shown by the people when the country is under threat, saying, 'We stood united for the protection of Pakistan and achieved success.' He made this statement while addressing the 'My Karachi – Oasis of Harmony Exhibition 2025,' organised by the KCCI at the Expo Centre. The programme was attended by Minister of Local Government Saeed Ghani, Minister of Industries Jam Ikramullah Dharejo, KCCI President Javed Balwani, members of KCCI, and leading industrialists and members of civil society in large numbers. The chief minister said, 'The celebrations for Independence Day' in the province commenced on August 01. Murad Ali Shah reflected on Pakistan's journey since its establishment through the peaceful efforts of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 1947 and the subsequent division of the country in 1971. The CM praised the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto during difficult times, who endowed Pakistan with nuclear capabilities, followed by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, who advanced missile technology for the empowerment of the armed forces. In a celebratory gesture, the chief minister cut a cake symbolising victory against India, marking the theme of this year's Independence Day celebrations. The 'My Karachi' event has become a signature celebration for the city, with participation from various countries, showcasing Karachi's potential. Shah congratulated the Karachi Chamber for successfully organising the event, highlighting its initiation in 2004 when the city faced significant challenges. The Chief Minister noted improvements in Karachi's security situation, stating that while some street crimes still occur, the overall conditions have improved compared to previous years. He mentioned the World Bank's gap analysis conducted in 2015, which highlighted the need for Rs3 trillion for a better standard of living in Karachi. Shah discussed various projects, including the Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Project and the Competitive and Liveable City of Karachi (CLICK) project, aimed at enhancing the city's infrastructure. He highlighted the establishment of the Waste Management Authority to improve cleanliness and the introduction of electric buses by the Sindh government. Murad Shah also addressed ongoing water issues, emphasising the need for the swift completion of the K-IV water supply project, which is critical for Karachi's water supply. The chief minister assured that efforts are being made to bring additional water resources to the city and expressed gratitude for the support from the federal government. In a strong statement of unity, the chief minister reiterated that all parties will celebrate Independence Day together, transcending political differences. He concluded by extending heartfelt congratulations to the people of Pakistan on Independence Day, affirming the government's commitment to Karachi and its citizens. Independence Day being dedicated to theme ‘Marqa-e-Haq'
ISLAMABAD: Under the directions of the prime minister of Pakistan, a high-level meeting decided that this year's Independence Day was being dedicated to the theme 'Marqa-e-Haq', the Battle for Truth to honour the courage, faith, and resolve of the nation. While chairing the high-level meeting on Tuesday, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal reviewed the decisions taken on the celebrations so far. He reiterated that this year's Independence Day was being dedicated to the theme 'Marqa-e-Haq', the Battle for Truth to honour the courage, faith, and resolve of the nation. He said that the celebrations will send a clear message to the world that Pakistan stands proud, strong, and committed to its sovereignty. He added that 'at the same time, the government aims to highlight the steady progress being made in economic recovery, defence resilience and international recognition of Pakistan's leadership, economic recovery, and expertise showing that Pakistan's journey is not just about survival but about rising to its full potential'. Senior representatives from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Heritage and Culture, Ministry of Education and Professional Training, Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and other departments participated in the meeting to discuss how to make the day truly reflective of the feelings, aspirations, and pride of the people of Pakistan. While discussing the activities of the celebrations, the planning minister stressed that every sector, every directed chairman HEC and secretary Education should ensure that all universities and schools should celebrate the day in the same format. The same was advised for provincial celebrations and celebrations abroad in collaboration with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis. A robust discussion took place where the committee members shared the planned activities and innovative ideas for celebrations at the federal and provincial level. The minister said that a comprehensive plan should be developed with budgets. Speaking to the participants, Federal Minister Iqbal said: 'This year, we are not just commemorating another Independence Day, we are marking a moment of national revival. A moment that reflects the resilience of our people, the resolve of our state, and the rise of Pakistan as a global voice of strength, peace, and purpose. The world has seen that while Pakistan is a peace-loving nation, it will never compromise on its sovereignty. Our recent defence of our territorial integrity showed our maturity, strength, and our determination to protect regional stability without weakness.' Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, addressing the meeting, said: 'The nation stands as one united, unshaken, and ready to defeat any designs against it. Our civil and military forces are shoulder to shoulder. These celebrations will reiterate to the world what they are already telling us that we are united and strong.' The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ataullah Tarar, shared that extensive plans were underway with song competitions, special programming and a documentary. He assured that the celebrations will be reflective of the achievements of the country and celebrate the global acclaim the country is receiving. Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, said: 'Our schools and students are full of passion and excitement to celebrate the day with different activities like debates, essay competitions, painting competitions and many other exciting initiatives.' During the meeting, participants shared a range of proposals to ensure that the celebrations reflect the hearts of ordinary Pakistanis and involve everyone — from the cities to the villages, from students to artists, and from businesses to the diaspora. Plans were discussed for national songs, heartfelt dramas, poetry gatherings, documentaries, cultural fairs, public events, school competitions, and global embassy activities, all designed to inspire the nation and tell its story to the world. COAS spends Eid day at the frontline
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir visited forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC) to celebrate Eidul Azha with frontline troops, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. The visit commenced with Eid prayers, during which special supplications were made for Pakistan's enduring peace, stability, and prosperity as well as for shuhda who made supreme sacrifice for the defence of their motherland. Extending warm Eid greetings to the officers and men, the Field Marshal commended their unwavering commitment, professional excellence, and steadfast service in the face of persistent challenges, the ISPR statement said. The COAS noted that celebrating Eid on the frontline away from their families serves the superior national purpose of defending the motherland at all costs throughout the year, the statement added. The COAS lauded the formation's exemplary performance during Marqa-e-Haq, Operation Bunyaanum Marsoos and paid solemn tribute to the martyrs and Ghazis whose sacrifices continue to fortify the nation's security and resolve. "You have befittingly avenged the loss of lives of innocent Pakistani civilians including children, women and elderly through your bold and effective response" the ISPR statement quoted the COAS as saying. While interacting with troops, the army chief expressed deep appreciation for their high morale, exceptional operational readiness, and resolute vigilance in responding effectively to Indian ceasefire violations. He reiterated complete confidence in the battle preparedness of the armed forces to decisively deter and defeat any act of aggression, the statement added. Underscoring Pakistan's principled stance, the Field Marshal affirmed that the just and valiant struggle of the Kashmiri people against Indian occupation will never be forgotten. He emphasized the need for the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with the aspirations of its people and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. Upon arrival at the LoC, the COAS was received by the Commander, Rawalpindi Corps.

Extending Eid greetings to officers and soldiers, the COAS lauded their unwavering commitment, professional excellence, and dedication despite persistent challenges. He stated that celebrating Eid at the frontlines, away from families, reflects the higher national purpose of safeguarding the country. The Army Chief praised the formation's performance during Marqa-e-Haq and Operation Bunyaanum Marsoos, paying tribute to the martyrs and Ghazis. 'You have befittingly avenged the loss of innocent Pakistani lives, including children, women, and the elderly, through your bold and effective response,' he said. While interacting with the troops, COAS Munir appreciated their high morale, operational preparedness, and vigilance in countering ceasefire violations by Indian forces. He reiterated full confidence in the armed forces' ability to deter and defeat any aggression. Reaffirming Pakistan's principled position on the Kashmir dispute, the COAS said the just and valiant struggle of the Kashmiri people against Indian occupation would not be forgotten. He stressed the importance of resolving the Jammu and Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The Army Chief was received by the Commander of Rawalpindi Corps upon his arrival at the LoC.
