How does Royal Portrush rank among the best courses in Ireland and Northern Ireland?

All eyes are on Royal Portrush's Dunluce Course in Northern Ireland for this week's British Open (ahem ... Open Championship, if you please). This will be the third time the Open has been played at Portrush, following the 1951 event won by Max Faulkner and the 2019 tournament won by Ireland's Shane Lowry. But how does the Dunluce stack up against the best courses in Ireland and Northern Ireland? We can look to Golfweek's Best course rankings for a comparison. Each year we publish many course rankings lists, and the layouts of Ireland and Northern Ireland feature prominently in three of those: the rankings of top 50 modern courses in Great Britain and Ireland, the top 50 classic courses in Great Britain and Ireland, and the top 100 international courses outside the United States. The hundreds of members of our course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them based on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce these rankings. The top handful of courses in the world have an average rating above 9, while many excellent layouts fall into the high-6 to 8 range. With all that in mind, below are the top 10 courses in Ireland and Northern Ireland: 10. Confirmed: DP World Tour event to be held at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire in August

A DP World Tour event will take place at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire in August. The Scottish Championship will take place at the Balmedie course from August 7-10. It will be the first time the Tour has visited Trump International Golf Links Scotland, which hosted the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in both 2023 and 2024 and will do so again from July 30 to August 3, the week prior to the Scottish Championship. That means there will be back-to-back tournaments at the links course designed by Martin Hawtree which opened in 2012. Guy Kinnings, CEO of the DP World Tour, said: 'Trump International Golf Links Scotland has already earned a reputation as one of the best modern links courses in the UK and it promises to be an excellent venue for the return of the Scottish Championship to our schedule.' Scottish Championship to take place at Trump course

The Scottish Championship has been added to the DP World Tour's 2025 global schedule, taking place at Trump International Golf Links Scotland in Aberdeenshire from 7-10 August. It will be the first time the Tour has visited the venue, which was designed by Martin Hawtree and opened in 2012. "It promises to be an excellent venue for the return of the Scottish Championship to our schedule," said Guy Kinnings, CEO of the DP World Tour. The Scottish Championship was last played in October 2020 when Adrian Otaegui finished four shots clear of Matt Wallace at Fairmont St Andrews. Following the Scottish Championship, the tour's 'closing swing' will conclude with the Danish Golf Championship at Fureso Golf Klub in Copenhagen. That will be the last opportunity for players to qualify for the 'Back 9', the second phase of the DP World Tour's season, which begins with the Betfred British Masters hosted by Nick Faldo at The Belfry, from 21-24 August.
