So far this year, 98 people have lost their lives in collisions on Irish roads ROAD TRAGEDY Teenage boy dies in hospital after horrific single-vehicle bank holiday crash in Co Kerry village as gardai issue plea A TEENAGER has died in hospital following a horror single-vehicle crash that took place in Co Kerry over the bank holiday weekend. He was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition at around 5:40pm on Saturday after the crash on the L1029 road at Deerpark in Lixnaw. The young driver, who was aged in his late teens and was the only occupant of the car involved in the crash, was sadly pronounced dead in Cork University Hospital this morning, gardai confirmed. Officers are continuing to investigate the crash. An examination of the scene on the L1029 road has already been carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigations. Gardai this morning reissued an appeal for any witnesses of the incident to come forward. A statement from Garda HQ said: "Gardai are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. "Any road users who may have dash-cam and were travelling in the area on the 2nd August 2025 between 5.15pm and 5.45pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai. "Anyone with information is asked to contact Listowel Garda Station on (068) 50820, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station." The statement added: "Investigations are ongoing." So far this year, 98 people have lost their lives in collisions on Irish roads. Yesterday, the mother of a teenage cyclist who died in hospital following a collision in Dublin paid a heartbreaking tribute to her "beautiful" boy. The incident, which involved a car and a bicycle, happened on the R113, Fonthill Road South in Clondalkin shortly after 11:40pm on Sunday, July 27. MUM'S EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE The cyclist, a 19-year-old man, was raced to Beaumont Hospital in a critical condition but he was pronounced dead on Monday. The deceased has been named locally as Luke Bryne, 19, from Clondalkin. In a heartbreaking post on social media his mother Martina McGarry wrote: "My beautiful son you're in peace now. "You put one of the hardest fights you gave me in 19 years of happy memories that I'll cherish forever. "You'll never be forgotten. You will always be in my heart. "I know you will be in heaven looking down on me. You're back home with you dad now gone but never forgotten. Love you so much son. Sleep tight."

Two men killed in road crashes in Dublin and Offaly named locally
Two men who died following separate road incidents in Dublin and Tullamore have been named locally. Cyclist Luke Byrne (19), who was injured in a collision in Clondalkin, Dublin, in late July, died in Beaumont Hospital on Monday, August 4th. Mr Byrne was struck by a car on Fonthill Road South at about 11.40pm on Sunday, July 27th. His mother, Martina McGarry, paid tribute to her son on Facebook, saying he was 'back home with your dad now'. READ MORE 'You gave me 19 years of happy memories that I'll cherish forever,' wrote Ms McGarry in a social media post on Tuesday. 'You'll never be forgotten you will always be in my heart I know you will be in heaven looking down on me your back home with your dad now gone but never forgotten love you so much son sleep tight.' The coroner has been notified of the death and a postmortem will be carried out. Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision and road users with relevant camera footage are asked to make this footage available to gardaí. Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda station at 01 666 7600, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda station. Tributes have also been paid to David Henry, the man in his 30s who died following a single-vehicle crash in Tullamore, Co Offaly, on Monday night. Mr Henry from Clonad, Daingean in Co Offaly, was fatally injured at Ballina Cross, Annaharvey, in Tullamore at about 11.50pm on Monday, August 4th. His body was removed to the mortuary at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore, for a postmortem. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, and any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling in the area between about 11.40pm and midnight are asked to make it available to gardaí.
