Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale Trailer Offers First Glimpse at Maggie Smith Tribute — Watch
Dame Maggie Smith is gone but not forgotten in the third (and final) Downton Abbey film. Focus Features on Monday released the first trailer for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, which hits theaters Friday, Sept. 12. The footage sees Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery) stop and pause to look at a portrait of the late Dowager Countess Violet Crawley, who died in 2022's Downton Abbey: A New Era (prior to Smith's death in 2024). 'As the beloved cast of characters navigates how to lead Downton Abbey into the future, they must embrace change and welcome a new chapter.' In addition to Dockery, returning cast members include Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera and Douglas Reith. Additionally, Dominic West (The Affair) is back as Guy Dexter, a character introduced in A New Era, while Paul Giamatti (Billions) reprises his role of Harold Levinson (aka Cora Grantham's brother). ‘Downton Abbey' Steps Into 1930 With Sensational Teaser for Final Movie
'Downton Abbey' is officially moving into the 1930s with the latest teaser trailer for its upcoming movie, 'The Grand Finale.' The movie from Focus Features will premiere theatrically on Sept. 12. The teaser begins with three couples elegantly strolling down the green at a horse race. The teaser then jumps between several more stunning visuals, including a packed theater and Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery) wowing in a red dress before being dubbed a 'sensation.' The video ends with several shots of the estate as various characters tip their hats and give knowing, somber looks. 'As the beloved cast of characters navigates how to lead Downton Abbey into the future, they must embrace change and welcome a new chapter,' a press release about the upcoming movie reads.
