Brown highlights importance of Champions League qualification

Michael Brown has reiterated the significance of Manchester City qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League. The Blues ended a challenging domestic campaign on a high note by ensuring our spot in Europe's elite competition with a 2-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. Advertisement It ensured City finished third in the Premier League, and top of a five-horse race for Champions League qualification on the final day of the 2024/25 season. Pep Guardiola's men have now reached the Champions League 15 years in a row, and Brown has once again emphasised the appeal the competition has in attracting new signings and generally growing the profile of the Club. WATCH: Extended highlights: Fulham 0-2 City 'The Champions League is the pinnacle,' the former City midfielder said on Matchday Live. 'All the players coming from all around the world, wherever you sign them that's the first thing, are you in the Champions League. When you are, it's much more attractive for you to come and sign and get better and better. Advertisement 'The trips are great around Europe and for the Club with regards to being on the map, growing and getting stronger. 'The job was done, the players did exactly what they needed to do today [against Fulham]. It was a really professional performance.' WATCH: We proved how much we wanted Champions League, says Guardiola The 2024/25 campaign is far from over though, as pointed out by Brown's fellow Matchday Live pundit and former City defender Nedum Onuoha, with the Blues competing in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer in the United States. We earned our spot in the newly formatted competition thanks to our 2023 Champions League win, and will face Moroccan outfit Wydad AC, United Arab Emirates side Al Ain and Italian giants Juventus in the group stages. Advertisement Onuoha is excited to see how City will fare in the tournament, and also pointed out that it could present some of our returning stars with a chance for valuable match minutes ahead of 2025/26. WATCH THE FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP 2025 ON DAZN He added: 'It should be good. It's nice to have that bit of football in the midsummer region, and to see how they're going to do. 'To play in the Club World Cup is a normal thing but to have it in this format and over there, it'll be a test. 'There's Rodri, you could be looking at Nathan Ake, maybe John Stones comes back in as well. It'll be good in terms of some City players getting a chance to get some football before next season starts. Advertisement 'It's going to be fun.' Dias: We'll fight with everything we've got to try and win the FA Cup

Dias: We'll fight with everything we've got to try and win the FA Cup Ruben Dias says City will go into Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest armed with a burning desire to take one step closer to lifting the famous trophy once again. The Wembley showdown with Nuno Espirito Santo's side will be City's seventh successive FA Cup semi-final – a record-breaking stat that bears witness to the Club's passion for the competition. Advertisement City have also reached the last two finals – beating Manchester United 2-1 in the 2023 showpiece en-route to the Treble before then being edged out by United in last season's all-Manchester Cup final repeat. Dias was part of the City squad that tasted Wembley success two years ago – and looking ahead to Sunday's Forest clash, he made plain how important FA Cup success would be this season. CITY+ | SIGN UP TO ACCESS EXCLUSIVE CONTENT 'It is a big chance for us to add some silverware to this season,' the Portuguese centre half declared. 'We have three main targets, and we are going to fight with everything we have got for all three of them. Advertisement 'The FA Cup, I have won it already, but many in the team haven't, and we all share the same ambition, and we know how important it is to do it. WATCH: Guardiola: I love having Rodri involved again 'It is a really good Cup to win, so we are very focused on it.' Given the myriad injuries and hurdles City have had to overcome this term, Dias' impact and leadership qualities have arguably never been more crucial. The 27-year-old's example and encouragement to the rest of his colleagues has helped galvanise City – especially over the past month or so with Guardiola's side going into Sunday's clash unbeaten in all competitions since early March. Advertisement That said all of Dias' leadership qualities have been evident ever since he joined City back in September 2020. And for his part, the Portugal international says he is only too happy to try provide a lead to his team-mates. 'I feel like whoever is a leader in the team or whoever is not, I always feel like everyone has to be a leader of their own selves,' Dias added. WATCH: FA Cup extended highlights: Bournemouth 1-2 City 'By consequence of that you will be a good influence on the team. 'And in difficult moments like this season, I feel like everyone has needed to step up and be there for the team in the way the team needs them.'
