UFC on ESPN 71 post-event facts: Neil Magny takes big jump up all-time wins list
The UFC opened a four-event August lineup on Saturday with UFC on ESPN 71 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and in the main event a top flyweight contender bounced back from his first career loss. Tatsuro Taira (17-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) showed his resiliency when he dominantly dispatched of short notice replacement HyunSung Park (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) by second-round submission, capping off a card where some history was made. Event stats UFC on ESPN 71 became the third event in company history with multiple knockouts stemming from body kicks. UFC 193 and UFC Fight Night 226 also had the feat. The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $150,000. Chris Duncan, Mateusz Rebecki, Esteban Ribovics and Elves Brener earned $50,000 UFC on ESPN 71 fight-night bonuses. Debuting fighters went 0-1 on the card. The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC on ESPN 71, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate. Betting favorites went 10-2 on the card. Betting favorites improved to 16-10 in UFC headliners this year. Total fight time for the 12-bout card was 2:11:57. Tatsuro Taira def. Duncan outclasses Rebecki to claim fifth UFC win
Scotland's Chris Duncan beat Poland's Mateusz Rebecki by unanimous decision in a brutal bout at the co-main event of Saturday's Fight Night in Las fighters were covered in blood at the end of the fight, with the judges scoring it 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 in Duncan's result takes the 32-year-old's professional mixed martial arts record to 14 wins and two landed strike after strike through the bout, although was on the end of some punishing shots from pre-fight favourite Rebecki."You can't beat who won't quit," Duncan said post-bout. "I don't quit."I've been through everything. You wouldn't understand what I went through as a young child."See this, this is nothing," he said, pointing to his swollen face. "What I went through as a youngster is pain. This is nothing, this is superficial. "Everybody wants to know what I would have done if I didn't win. I guess we'll never know."

The UFC handed out four bonuses after Saturday's card in Las Vegas – with a rarity of two Fight of the Night winners. After UFC on ESPN 71, four fighters picked up an extra $50,000 for their performances at the UFC Apex. Check out the winners below. Fight of the Night: Chris Duncan def. Mateusz Rebecki Chris Duncan (14-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Mateusz Rebecki (20-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) put on an absolute banger in the co-main event. The lightweights had a tough act to follow right after Esteban Ribovics vs. Elves Brener, and somehow did so with a Fight of the Year candidate. Rebecki was about a 2-1 favorite in the fight, but left disappointed. Both fighters left the cage a bloody mess and had to be transported to an area hospital following the bout. Fight of the Night: Esteban Ribovics def. Elves Brener In a strikers' delight lightweight slugfest, Esteban Ribovics (15-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Elves Brener (16-6 MMA, 3-3 UFC) somehow each landed 123 total strikes. But where Brener tried to make a difference was in takedowns – and Ribovics stuffed all nine of them in a highly entertaining scrap. UFC fight descends into bloodbath as both fighters are left unrecognizable in Las Vegas
UFC stars Chris Duncan and Mateusz Rebecki were left unrecognizable after their co-main event descended into a bloodbath on Saturday night. The lightweight stars faced off at UFC Vegas 108 and made sure to give fight fans their money's worth as they viciously battled throughout their three-round bout. Heading into the fight, Scottish star Duncan was the bookie's underdog but you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise given Rebecki's state by the end of the fight. The Polish fighter was left disfigured, bloody and bruised after being on the receiving end of a striking clinic from his Scottish counterpart. It was enough to earn Duncan a unanimous decision victory, however, some would argue that the Scottish star hardly 'won' given the brutal damage he also suffered. The 32-year-old had nasty cuts across his face - including one deep gash right below his left eye that appeared to cause him some concern during the fight. However, in the end, Duncan battled through and it was Rebecki who wore the scars of defeat upon his face come the final bell. Notably, Rebecki's right eye had become incredibly swollen throughout the fight and the Polish star was hardly able to see out of it by the final round. The judges scored it 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 in Duncan's favor, which saw him extend his professional MMA record to 14-2 - in one of the biggest upsets of the night. The bout was so thrilling that it caught the attention of a number of prominent names within the UFC. Recently retired star Dustin Poirier wrote: 'Bravo men!! What a WAR!! You both should be proud'. Though it may be hard to believe, prior to their fight in Vegas, Duncan and Rebecki were teammates and both trained with American Top Team. Speaking ahead of the bout, Rebecki revealed: 'For me, it's difficult. We live together. He lived behind my wall. It's a funny situation because nobody in the world has that situation. 'You have teammate and an opponent in a place where you live. It's hard for your mind, but you can be better because you see how he trained. 'If you rest, your opponent go to training. When I see he go training and running, I want to do more. A couple minutes more running or go earlier to sleep. 'Do more than him. It's motivation. Stressful of course, but I didn't want to fight with him because he is my teammate.' In the end, it wasn't meant to be for Rebecki on the night and the pre-fight favorite picked up another loss - moving his record to 20-3. The gruesome scenes comes just a week after one fighter was left with gruesome injuries at UFC Abu Dhabi. UFC fighter Mohammad Yahya suffered a horrifying eye injury which saw it swell up to the size of a tennis ball after a brutal beatdown from Steven Nguyen. The 32-year-old knocked down his rival six times, smashing the record for total number of knockdowns in a single fight in the championship's history. The previous record of five was shared by Jeremy Stephens (who defeated Gilbert Melendez in 2017) and Forrest Petz (who defeated Sammy Morgan in 2006).
