Housed in the former Wilko store, which closed in 2023, the site has been completely transformed into an 11,000 square foot adventure space - with 5,000 square feet dedicated to a three-level play structure that can accommodate more than 300 children at any one time. ‌ "Families in Newport have been crying out for activities for children for years and we're so happy to finally give that to them," said Karrie Brewer, manager of Little Kingdom. "Not only do they get fun for all ages, but they get it at such a large scale, we can't wait for everyone to come and see!" ‌ There has been outcry for facilities that offer more activities for children (Image: Matt Sheppard) What sets Little Kingdom apart isn't just its size, but the way it pays homage to the city itself. The playground features scaled-down replicas of well-known Newport landmarks, including Newport Market, the Transporter Bridge, and Rodney Parade. The goal, according to organisers, is to offer children a sense of place as they play and ability to connect recreation with local identity. Toddlers have access to soft play and role-playing areas aimed at encouraging creativity and social interaction. Meanwhile, older children can enjoy more challenging zones, including puzzle rooms, slides, trampolines, and climbing features. With high-level workspaces and five soundproofed office booths available, Little Kingdom offers parents the ability to stay connected while their children play nearby; a rare feature in a venue of this kind. ‌ The unique area is one of the biggest of its kind (Image: Matt Sheppard) "Not only do they get fun for all ages, but they get it at such a large scale," Karrie emphasised. "We can't wait for everyone to come and see!" More than just a business venture, Little Kingdom appears to be a direct response to what many residents have felt was a gap in the city's offerings. For years, parents in Newport have called for safer, weatherproof spaces where children can play, learn, and socialise. Little Kingdom officially opens on Saturday, August 16, in the Kingsway Centre, Newport. To book or find out more, click here or follow @ on social media.
