After years of public demand for better children's facilities, Newport is set to open the largest indoor adventure playground of its kind in the area - and it comes with a distinctly local twist.
Located in the Kingsway Centre, Little Kingdom will officially open its doors on Saturday, August 16. Housed in the former Wilko store, which closed in 2023, the site has been completely transformed into an 11,000 square foot adventure space - with 5,000 square feet dedicated to a three-level play structure that can accommodate more than 300 children at any one time.
"Families in Newport have been crying out for activities for children for years and we're so happy to finally give that to them," said Karrie Brewer, manager of Little Kingdom. "Not only do they get fun for all ages, but they get it at such a large scale, we can't wait for everyone to come and see!"
There has been outcry for facilities that offer more activities for children

What sets Little Kingdom apart isn't just its size, but the way it pays homage to the city itself.
The playground features scaled-down replicas of well-known Newport landmarks, including Newport Market, the Transporter Bridge, and Rodney Parade. The goal, according to organisers, is to offer children a sense of place as they play and ability to connect recreation with local identity.

As children navigate through the imaginative landscape, they'll encounter a range of play experiences suited to different age groups. Toddlers have access to soft play and role-playing areas aimed at encouraging creativity and social interaction.
Meanwhile, older children can enjoy more challenging zones, including puzzle rooms, slides, trampolines, and climbing features. Never miss a Newport story by subscribing to our newsletter here
The facility also reflects modern family needs. With high-level workspaces and five soundproofed office booths available, Little Kingdom offers parents the ability to stay connected while their children play nearby; a rare feature in a venue of this kind.

"Not only do they get fun for all ages, but they get it at such a large scale," Karrie emphasised. "We can't wait for everyone to come and see!"
More than just a business venture, Little Kingdom appears to be a direct response to what many residents have felt was a gap in the city's offerings. For years, parents in Newport have called for safer, weatherproof spaces where children can play, learn, and socialise.

Brilliant theme park 90-minutes from Liverpool and Manchester that kids won't want to leave
This theme park in North Wales is set against the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia mountains and home to a large variety of unique rides and nature-focused experiences This theme park with enough attractions to captivate both younger and older children is every parent's summer wish come true. It is even more enticing with it comes with a picturesque setting that offers a touch of escapism for grown-ups as well. There's absolutely no question that GreenWood theme park in North Wales boasts an idyllic location - proudly eco-friendly and nestled against the breathtaking Snowdonia mountain range. Should you be planning a family break in North Wales this year, or simply fancy a relatively straightforward day trip from Manchester, this park ranks among the finest attractions around. It comes after sunbed wars see Brits forced to queue for 'over an hour' just to get to the pool. The journey takes approximately 90 minutes by car from Manchester, but it follows one of the most uncomplicated routes possible (via the A55 beyond Llandudno and A5 through Bangor). The stress-free journey also provides magnificent coastal vistas along North Wales. As one Manchester Evening News writer discovered, travelling with two children aged 9 and 5, the theme park provides a thoroughly packed day out with an abundance of activities - plus a genuine diversity of rides that sets it apart from typical theme parks. Consider, for instance, its Green Dragon rollercoaster - marketed as the "world's first people-powered rollercoaster". It's apparently the only theme park attraction of its type in the world- but don't fret, it doesn't require everyone to run Flintstones -style to power the ride. The attraction utilises funicular technology, first introduced in Welsh slate mines two centuries ago. All passengers clamber into a carriage which descends a hill, powering the rollercoaster up the incline. There are plenty of very unique features to encounter at this family attraction. Another is the Barefoot Trail - where you kick off your shoes and stroll through the woodland, allowing your feet to feel an invigorating variety of surfaces from water to straw and stones. There is stilt walking for beginners, archery, and during the first week of the school summer holidays, there are virtually no queues for any of the 20+ rides across the site. The only unavoidable wait will likely be for one of the park's more spectacular highlights - the colossal Solar Splash water ride. Another world-first, this ride is powered by solar energy, and allows both kids and adults to zoom down two massive central chutes, or a spiral chute next to them, before making a splash landing at the end. All the wild woodland play features scattered across the site, add an extra dose of intrigue. The park is nestled against a hillside so be prepared for some gentle inclines as you explore the grounds. The on-site Woodbarn restaurant boasts a large soft play barn inside, ensuring your little ones are kept amused while you order food and wait for it to be served at your table. The attraction has recently introduced alpaca walks that you can book as an extra (for £20), where children aged over 4 accompanied by their parents can meet and feed the three resident alpacas on the site. You can then embark on a guided walk with these furry creatures around their enclosure. Treetop Towers, filled with slides and climbing adventures, are situated across the park, and you can walk up to the top of the site to take in the view from the Snowdonia View Point. Entry is £25 per person for anyone over 1m, while those under 1m pay £10. A family ticket saver option is also available, costing £95 for a family of four (saving you a bit at £23.75 each). GreenWood is offering a 'Pay Once, Visit Twice' deal for the summer holidays. If you visit between 19th July and 24th August, you can return within seven days at no extra cost. Dogs are also allowed in for free, provided they're well-behaved and kept on leads.

Ryan Reynolds in 'incredibly awkward' meeting with new £10m Wrexham signing
Ryan Reynolds in 'incredibly awkward' meeting with new £10m Wrexham signing Ryan Reynolds spoke to ITV prior to Wrexham's first home fixture of the season. Ryan Reynolds spoke about the moment he first met new signing Nathan Broadhead. (Image: ITV ) Ryan Reynolds has revealed an awkward dressing room moment with new signing Nathan Broadhead. The Welsh club completed the club record signing of the Wales international on a £10 million deal on Thursday. ITV spoke to Reynolds and fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney prior to Wrexham's first home match of the 2025/2026 season against West Bromwich Albion. The duo had already appeared on Sky Sports to chat about the game and were in good spirits, mocking their former player and now pundit Ben Tozer. Unfortunately for Wrexham, it was a 3-2 loss to West Brom, but they have another home fixture to look forward to next weekend, against Sheffield Wednesday. Speaking about their recent investment into former Premier League striker Broadhead, Reynolds explained that he had an awkward encounter with the Welshman when they first met. "I had an incredibly awkward moment with him in the dressing room," began Reynolds. "Because in person he just looked so young. I've seen him play tonnes, I've watched him. I didn't commit (to the greeting). Article continues below "I was like: 'Hey, hi!', and I was like: 'That can't be Nathan Broadhead, he's too young', but he's 27, and he's a machine! "Now it has sunk in, I've managed to get my entire leg in my mouth, now it's sunk in." Wrexham have smashed their transfer record after buying Ipswich forward Nathan Broadhead (Image: Wrexham AFC) Asked about their spending, which is set to surpass £20 million this summer, McElhenney added: 'I don't look at that at all. "We're standing on the shoulders of giants and just look at what other clubs have done to be successful in the past. "And then at what they've done to not be successful in the past and try to avoid that as much as possible. "And that includes staying out of football business. "Our job is to tell the story, promote the club but ultimately defer to people who know about football: Phil Parkinson, Michael Harvey, Shaun Williamson, our executive team and we stay out of the way.' Speaking about the acquisition of Broadhead, boss Phil Parkinson said on Friday: "The fee has been out there at £10m but I think we have to get to the Premier League and win the Champions League to get to that," he told BBC Sport Wales. Article continues below "But it's a price for a player of real Championship quality. "The fee with Ipswich had been agreed a for a long time, obviously they wanted to sign a player so we had to be patient. "But they've been fair and both parties are happy with the deal."

Scared team-mate found Lions star sat on toilet thinking he was going to die
Scared team-mate found Lions star sat on toilet thinking he was going to die 'I can tell this story, because spoiler alert, he's not dead,' explained Ugo Monye. Andy Powell had a little too much caffeine. (Image: (Photo by)) Former England international Ugo Monye has revealed Andy Powell once "thought he was going to die" after a night out on a British and Irish Lions tour. The former Harlequins flyer told the tale on talkSPORT, with hosts Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein cracking up. Powell and Monye were teammates on the 2009 Lions tour to South Africa, where the touring side lost 2-1 to the Springboks. Despite going 2-0 down, Sir Ian McGeechan's side were victorious in the third and final match, winning 28-9. Two tries from Shane Williams and one from Monye himself helped seal the win. A plethora of Welsh players were on that tour, much different to the 2025 edition, which featured only two Welshmen in the initial squad. Speaking to talkSPORT, Monye revealed that ex-Cardiff star Powell got himself into a right pickle during their celebrations. "I shared a room with a guy called Andy Powell," began Monye, before telling the tale of Powell's golf buggy trip down the M4 to the hosts. "Were you nervous about going to sleep?," asked Goldstein. "100%," replied Monye. Article continues below "I remember on the night of the third Test, we'd just won and it was a brilliant night. "He was just as committed on the pitch as he was to the social side. Everyone knows that Super Sunday is better than Super Saturday. "Generally, before a game you would have a caffeine tablet to get yourself revved up and motivated. He took four of these after the game because he wanted to go through the night. "So, he had had four caffeine tablets, a bucket load of Red Bulls, and then we got into bed at around three or four. "0.3 seconds later he sat bolt upright, because shock horror, he is having heart palpitations. "I can tell this story, because spoiler alert, he's not dead. "So, he woke up, having heart palpitations, I'm not in a fit state to manage him and I'm also not a doctor. So I've left the room to try and find our team doctor who was, funnily enough, asleep. There was no one around. I was frightened. "I go back into the room to not even consider what state he might be in. He's sat on the toilet with his phone in his hand, and his screensaver of his dog. And I was like: 'What are you doing?' "He was saying goodbye to his dog because he thought he was going to die." Article continues below "I just wonder what the stories you can't tell are," joked Goldstein, before all three cracked up. In the game itself, it was Monye who crossed for a try, with Wales legend Shane Williams grabbing a brace. Other Welsh internationals in the squad that day were Stephen Jones, Mike Phillips, Matthew Rees, Martyn Williams, Alun Wyn Jones and James Hook, although the latter did not come off the bench.
