Max's ‘Beleza Fatal' Turns To Whodunit Telenovela Plot For Series Finale: Who Killed Benjamin Argento?

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains details of the latest episode drop of Max's . Max produced its first Brazilian telenovela with Beleza Fatal, known in English as Scars of Beauty. For its series finale, it borrowed from the classic whodunit plotline to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. More from Deadline 'Sex Lives Of College Girls' Creators Mindy Kaling & Justin Noble React To Max Cancellation: "We Are Living In An Era Where We Need Comedy Badly" 'The Sex Lives of College Girls' Done At Max After 3 Seasons, Exploring New Home For Season 4 2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming The streamer has been releasing five episodes every Monday since its premiere on January 27. However, the final drop on Monday, March 17, was only four episodes, leaving the grand finale to premiere on Friday, March 21, at 4 p.m. PT and 7 p.m. ET. In the era of streaming, with everyone watching at their most convenient time, leaving the last episode to premiere at a specific time allows viewers to catch up and turns the finale into an event. Social media has been abuzz with the series, with viewers creating memes of Camila Pitanga's extravagant and quotable Lola, the main villain of the telenovela. Beleza Fatal is Max Brazil's first foray into the genre that Latin audiences have consumed the most. Creator Raphael Montes has borrowed plot points from classic telenovelas and saved the best for last, turning it into a whodunit. The cliffhanger for Episode 39 leaves audiences wondering who killed Benjamin Argento, the character played by Caio Blat. This plot twist effectively invites viewers to tune into the final episode live. It creates a community where viewers all watch simultaneously, a phenomenon Brazil's TV Globo has used for telenovelas like Vale Tudo and Avenida Brasil, to name a few. Benjamin was disliked by many characters in the series as he was a villain himself. The two main suspects are Lola and Camila Queiroz's Júlia, whose revenge on the Argento family has completely taken over her. The killer's face is not seen on camera, but viewers can see her wearing oversized sunglasses and a head scarf as she enters the hospital, where Benjamin is telling all of his family he doesn't like any of them. Lola is the most obvious killer, as her outfit is similar to what she has been wearing in the most recent episodes. However, Júlia has been possessed by her need for revenge and displayed characteristics identical to Lola. Some theories point to Júlia dressing up like Lola to frame her so she can end up in jail. This last theory was a callback to the beginning of the series when Lola convinced Júlia's mother to take the blame for killing her husband. Lola had no intentions of helping Júlia's mother get out of jail and ended up framing her for the tragic event. The Paixão family also has reasons to eliminate Benjamin as he was the doctor operating on their daughter who sent her into a coma and ultimately caused her death. Scars of Beauty (Beleza Fatal)'s finale will drop on Max on Friday, March 21, at 4 p.m. PT and 7 p.m. ET.
