Nebraska baseball suffers setback following 4-0 shutout loss to Kansas in midweek battle Nebraska baseball (19-22) welcomed the Kansas Jayhawks (32-10) to Lincoln for a midweek single-game clash on Tuesday night. The Huskers failed to score, resulting in their second shutout loss of the season, 4-0. The Huskers' best opportunity occurred in the first inning, with two runners on and one in scoring position. But the Jayhawks tagged both runners out on steal attempts, ending the inning. Kansas immediately capitalized on the momentum swing, scoring twice in the second. The Jayhawks then scored two more times, one in the seventh and one in the ninth. Nebraska totaled seven hits, while Kansas recorded nine hits. Max Buettenback produced two hits, going 2-for-4 with a double. Robby Bolin, Tyler Stone, Gabe Swansen, Case Sanderson and Will Jesske all recorded one hit. Kansas sent six pitchers to the mound and shut down the Huskers on the day, combining for six strikeouts and allowing seven hits. The Huskers swept the Wildcats on the day, taking the series in the process. Nebraska took game one in seven innings, knocking off Northwestern with a 14-4 win. The Huskers then followed it up with a close 5-2 victory in game two. Nebraska started game one off strong, going up 5-0 in the first inning. The Huskers added two more runs before the Wildcats got on the board in the fourth. Nebraska then outscored Northwestern 7-3 from there to get the win. The Huskers outhit the Wildcats in game one 11-7, earning 13 RBIs. Max Buettenback hit 2-for-4 and a home run for two RBIs. Cayden Brumbaugh finished 2-for-3, driving in a run and hitting a double. Gabe Swansen delivered one hit, a grand slam in the first inning. Ty Horn (1-4) got his first win of the season after pitching 5.0 innings. Horn allowed three runs off five hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Tucker Timmerman pitched the final 2.0 innings and threw two strikeouts against two hits, a walk and a run. In game two, Nebraska took a 4-0 lead over Northwestern before the Wildcats scored a run in the seventh. The Huskers responded by tacking on a run. Northwestern cut the lead to 5-2 in the eighth, but Nebraska shut down the team down to secure the win. The Huskers earned nine hits while Northwestern struck six hits. Max Buettenback, Gabe Swansen and Robby Bolin co-led Nebraska at the plate, delivering two hits each. Case Sanderson, Joshua Overbeek and Will Jesske rounded out the Huskers' hitting performance by hitting one hit apiece. Jackson Brockett (1-3) also got his first win of the season after shutting out the Wildcats across 5.0 innings. He threw five strikeouts and allowed just two hits and a walk. Luke Broderick earned his ninth save of the season, snatching the final two outs. Nebraska remains home to welcome Kansas to Lincoln for a single-game series on Tuesday night. However, Kansas pinned the Huskers in a 4-4 tie after scoring three runs in the fifth and held the tie until the eighth. Nebraska took the lead from there to get the win. The Huskers finished with eight hits for seven RBIs, while Kansas delivered five hits for five RBIs. Max Buettenback broke the tie in the eighth with an RBI single, capping off a 3-for-3, three-RBI day. He also hit two doubles on the night.
