It's not every day that you end up dancing on the streets of Venice with a legendary photographer, without even realising it. But that's what happened in a now-viral Instagram reel that's left the Internet grinning. The video opens with two girls filming a dance to a trending audio clip against the dreamy backdrop of Venice. Midway through, iconic photojournalist Steve McCurry – behind the famed Afghan Girl portrait – wanders into the frame. Startled, the girls pause their routine. McCurry, curious and smiling, asks, 'Am I on television?' One of them laughs and explains it's just a Reel for Instagram. Then, McCurry steps up to the camera, says, 'Hi, welcome to Venice,' and sends a few flying kisses. When the girls invite him to dance, he gladly joins – swaying and laughing, completely unbothered by the attention. The girls, meanwhile, had no idea who he was until the Reel went viral. The Reel, shared by Instagram user @mukhlisaa_italy, is captioned, '@stevemccurryofficial truly honoured to meet you in person. Didn't realize I was in the presence of such talent. Army Futures Command prepares for ‘significant transformation' as warfare sees an evolution
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The group in charge of modernizing the military will soon undergo one of the 'most significant transformation(s) the Army has seen in a generation.' Army Futures Command (AFC), based in downtown Austin, will soon merge with the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) after an order by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The order, issued on April 30, aims to divest 'outdated, redundant and inefficient programs.' A spokesperson with AFC told KXAN the Army Transformation Initiative will 'make the Army more lethal.' 'These changes will help the Army transform with urgency to meet the challenges in the priority theater, the Indo-Pacific and breakdown institutional barriers and inertia that undermine our transformation efforts,' the spokesperson said. ARMY-TRANSFORMATION-AND-ACQUISITION-REFORMDownload The spokesperson did not have details on what the merger will look like at the time. 'The army headquarters in downtown Austin is here because we wanted to be in a tech hub. We wanted to be with startups. We wanted to be with venture capitalists. We wanted to be with a center of academia,' said General Michael C. McCurry, chief of staff at AFC. AFC, according to McCurry, is designed to anticipate the future of war and figure out what technology and tools are needed. 'I was a young major in the Middle East during the global war on terror, and, you know, I remember the first day I saw a great big unmanned system,' McCurry said. Today, unmanned systems are commonplace. They can even be spotted on Austin's streets in the form of driverless cars. 'My number one goal is just to make sure it's never going to be a fair fight,' McCurry said. 'That our soldiers are armed with things that make it not a fair fight for the guy on the other side.' Driverless vehicles, like drones, once served as scouts that snapped photos of the enemy. The future could see these tools become the vanguard. 'I grew up in the cavalry, and we always said, 'make contact with the smallest element.' Well, now it's make contact with an unmanned element first,' McCurry said. Technology to protect soldiers a cornerstone of modern warfare, Army Futures Command says The general thinks first about protecting soldiers, whom he calls the 'silver bullet' of the U.S. Armed Forces. He has two children and a son-in-law currently serving. 'Other countries around the world fight a group of things, we fight with a formation of capability. And we try to build that around our soldiers,' McCurry said. McCurry said integrating soldiers and technology is the real future of war. 'Is it something that has to be done a long time where somebody won't be able to go to sleep? Is it something that's exceedingly dangerous, like breaching a minefield or penetrating an air defense line? Those things we want to do with machines.' Announced in July 2018, Army Futures Command's Austin headquarters was established by President Donald Trump during his first term in office. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Machete-, shotgun-wielding man shot by officers in Macon arraigned
MACON, Ill. (WCIA) — A man from Macon is now facing formal charges following an incident in that village last week that left him shot and an officer hurt. Oscar McCurry Jr. has since been identified as the person who, on May 3, was armed with a knife when Decatur Police confronted him in a gas station parking lot. McCurry allegedly ran from officers, stole a Macon County Sheriff's squad car, rammed a Decatur Park Police squad car and pointed a police-issued shotgun at officers, prompting them to open fire on him. Second woman involved in Mattoon nursing home crash dies After being hospitalized, McCurry was booked into the Macon County Jail over the weekend on preliminary charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery to a peace officer and unlawful possession of a firearm. On Monday, he made an initial appearance in court and was arraigned on the following formal felony counts: Aggravated unlawful possesion of a weapon Felon in possesion of a weapon Aggravated battery/use of a deadly weapon Aggravated battery to a peace officer Possesion of a stolen vehicle Possesion of a stolen firearm A sworn statement filed in the case, signed by Sheriff's Sergeant David Pittenger, also revealed new details about the confrontation with McCurry and their attempts to negotiate with him. Deputies responded to the P&V gas station in Macon on May 3 in reference to a person with a machete who had crashed their car into a semi-truck. Pittenger said McCurry, whose machete was still in a sheath, told deputies he believed his daughter was being held inside the cab of the semi and was being sexually assaulted, which is why he crashed his car into the semi. The owner of the semi allowed deputies into the cab, and they found no one inside. Pittenger said this information still wasn't enough to convince McCurry his children weren't in danger. A deputy called McCurry's girlfriend to get him to calm down, but right as a deputy got off the phone with her, McCurry ran from the gas station and into the middle of U.S. Route 51. A deputy maneuvered their squad car onto the southbound lanes of the highway to block traffic at Andrews Road. Danville man sentenced to prison for aggravated domestic battery, battery while detained Pittenger said McCurry had unsheathed his machete and was standing in front of the squad car that had blocked traffic; the deputy inside quickly got out to put distance between him and McCurry. McCurry, who made suicidal statements, refused to put the machete down despite numerous commands to do so. 'A short time later, Oscar opened the driver's side door of the deputy's vehicle,' Pittenger said. 'Deputies observed Oscar then get into MSO squad car MC25 and drive away at a high rate of speed.' Pittenger said McCurry didn't get far, initially driving around in circles before driving west on Andrews Street and north on Wall Street. However, he aimed MC25 at multiple other squad cars, forcing the deputies driving them to take evasive action. One of those squad cars ended up in a roadside ditch. McCurry's ride came to an end when he rammed a Decatur Park Police car on Wall Street a quarter mile south of Route 51, disabling MC25 and the Decatur Park Police car. But while the ride was still happening, McCurry got his hands on the department-issued shotgun inside, which Pittenger said McCurry was holding as he exited the squad car. 'Oscar ignored all commands given by deputies [to drop the shotgun], at which time deputies fired their department-issued weapons at Oscar,' Pittenger said. 'At that time, Oscar dropped the shotgun but retrieved a knife from his pocket while still standing in the roadway.' Taylorville Police arrest 'dangerous felon' after tracking him to their city McCurry again refused demands to drop the knife, but Pittenger said he was taken into custody a short time later. Having been shot during the incident, McCurry was initially transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment of the gunshot wounds and then to a hospital in Springfield for injuries sustained in the crash. The Decatur Park Police officer who was hurt in the collision with MC25 was also taken to Decatur Memorial. He is expected to be okay. A week after the incident, a visibly injured McCurry was booked into the Macon County Jail. A check into his criminal history revealed that McCurry has a prior felony burglary conviction out of Oregon. In court on Monday, Judge Lindsey Shelton found that pretrial detention was necessary for McCurry and ordered him to remain in custody as his court case continues. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 28. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

North Carolina couple nabbed after deputies find enough fentanyl to ‘potentially kill ... 13,000 people': cops
Two people were arrested last week in North Carolina after deputies discovered a quantity of fentanyl large enough to "potentially kill 13,000 people," authorities said. The Burke County Sheriff's Office said Dustin McCurry, 41, and Kayly Allman, 33, were arrested on April 30 after deputies searched their vehicle and found a large amount of drugs during a traffic stop in the Clear Creek Access area of South Mountains State Park, according to a post on the department's Facebook page. Father Whose Son Died From Fentanyl Warns Overdoses 'Can Happen To Anyone' As States Fight Deadly Crisis Deputies allegedly found multiple items of drug paraphernalia in Allman's possession, along with approximately 13.59 grams of a crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Officials said McCurry was found in possession of drug paraphernalia and approximately 26.96 grams of a substance suspected to be fentanyl. Both Allman and McCurry were out on pretrial release at the time of the incident, officials said, and as a result, neither was issued a bond, pending judicial review. "This investigation is a powerful reminder of the severe threat fentanyl poses to public safety and highlights the critical need for ongoing vigilance and enforcement," the sheriff's office article source: North Carolina couple nabbed after deputies find enough fentanyl to 'potentially kill ... 13,000 people': cops

Armagh beat the buzzer to edge Tyrone in Ulster classic
Rory Grugan's post-hooter winner finally settled an epic in favour of the All-Ireland champions as Armagh squeezed out Tyrone at Clones to reach the Ulster SFC final. A crowd of 21,288 was treated to a derby special that thrilled and spilled its way to a nerve-jangling climax, and the Orchard displayed immense character to survive a furious Red Hand fightback. The final hooter had already sounded when Conor Turbitt won a free that Grugan steered between the posts to keep his side on course for a first provincial title since 2008. For Tyrone, the provincial dream is over, but they'll take a lot of positivity from a confidence-building showing into the All-Ireland series in a few weeks time. Darragh Canavan shot Tyrone ahead after 30 seconds, but Paddy Burns quickly got to grips on his man-marking job on his direct opponent, keeping him relatively quiet for the remainder of the half. And it was the All-Ireland champions who looked more dangerous going forward, reeling off scores through Ross McQuillan, Oisin Conaty and a two-pointer from Oisin O'Neill. Daren McCurry was the livewire that kept the Tyrone attack buzzing, slotting over a couple of points, but the Orchard men were able to claim more than their share of possession from the opposition kick-outs, and were more efficient in creating the space for a shot at the posts. Callum O'Neill and Ethan Rafferty both found the target, but a Michael McKernan two-pointer changed the momentum just when it looked like the Sam Maguire Cup holders were about to pull away. McCurry brought the sides level, but Kieran McGeeney's men were able to quickly restore their two-point cushion with a couple of Andrew Murnin points. McCurry, the only genuine threat in the Tyrone attack, brought his tally to five, but Callum O'Neill and Conaty stretched the advantage, and Armagh went in at the break with a 0-11 to 0-08 lead. Conaty was a constant thorn in the side of the Tyrone defence, firing over a couple of quickfire points at the start of the second half, and Ben Crealey stretched the lead out to six on 45 minutes. Howver McCurry was in the mood, and the Orchard County could do nothing to stop him as he pinged over a few more gems. Eoin McElholm came off the bench to add a further spark to the Tyrone attack, hitting a couple of points, and another sub, Peter Harte, sliced over a two-pointer to bring the sides level at 0-19 each on the hour. And the Red Hands went ahead in a bizarre sequence which saw Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney concede a free, picking up a yellow card as well for kicking out at a sideline flag, and McCurry punished with a two-point conversion. Now Armagh had to show their mettle, and they found the response they needed. Turbitt, off the bench to add further quality to their attack, found the space to kick a point, and even after McElholm restored the two-point cushion for Tyrone, the Sam Maguire Cup holders hit back with scores from Jarly Óg Burns and a Stefan Campbell leveller, before Grugan capped it all off with that late winner.
