Scott McTominay sees 'McFratm' nickname protected as Napoli cash in on instant club legend

The marauding midfielder has already secured iconic status in Naples after just one season with the club Scott McTominay is the talk of the town at Napoli after playing a starring role in the side's second Scudetto in three years. And the Scotland hero's impact on the club seems to know no boundaries, with Napoli reportedly registering a trademark on his new nickname 'McFratm'. ‌ The all-action midfielder netted 12 goals in 34 Serie A matches as Antonio Conte's team clinched the title on the final day by downing Cagliari 2-0 in front of their adoring fans at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. ‌ McTominay - who was crowned as the league's MVP - has already cemented iconic status with Napoli supporters, who have honoured him with a shrine in the middle of the Decumani district in the city centre. The 28-year-old has also been donned with the nickname 'McFratm', which which combines his name with the Neapolitian slang word for 'brother'. And according to Italian outlet Ambasciator, Napoli have now went one step further by trademarking the nickname for their commercial benefit. They add that the 'McFratm' brand is set to become the face of the side's marketing campaign over the summer ahead of the new season. Napoli are said to have filed the 'McFratm' trademark in as many as nine product categories including sporting goods, stationery and even food produce. ‌ Along with teammate Billy Gilmour, McTominay became the first Scotland player to get his hands on a Serie A winners' medal for the first time in 120 years. Way back in 1905, Jack Diment and James Squair achieved the feat by helping Juventus lift their first ever league title, eight years after the club was officially founded. And the Tartan Army favourites weren't the only stars in Steve Clarke's national team to have lifted silverware last season. ‌ Former Aberdeen and Hamilton midfielder Lewis Ferguson captained Bologna to the Coppa Italia to end their 51-year wait for a major trophy. Elsewhere, ex Hibs defender Josh Doig - who made his senior bow for Scotland against Liechenstein on Monday - was a part of the Sassuolo side that jumped back up to the top-flight by romping to the Serie B championship. Ferguson is reportedly a target for Conte this summer and could form an all-Scottish midfield in Naples. Left back Doig is said to be the subject of transfer tussle between Turin giants Juve and their city rivals Torino, if reports in Italy are to be believed.
