'You have 30 pages a day you've got to learn. There's no f***ing about. You organically make the scene work, you rehearse nothing. It f***s your nut up. I ended up in rehab twice.' In an apparent reference to the show's storylines, he added: 'Not so much in Corrie, but in EastEnders it's so dark.' 'In films you make yourself properly cry, you go to a dark place and you have time to recover. It messes a lot of people's heads up. Most people are off their nut." During the boozy bash Danny also confessed bosses banned him from drinking alcohol in the Queen Vic and even put antiseptic in the beer barrels. He said: 'When I first arrived on set I was slipping around the side and having a few lagers and they found out so they started to put TCP into the beer. 'I wasn't off my nut. I had a drink every now and again.' An EastEnders spokeswoman said yesterday: 'We would never discuss an individual's private matters, however, we do not recognise these claims. "EastEnders has extremely robust and well-established procedures in place to safeguard the welfare of everyone who works on the show.' 6 Danny told how he was 'off his nut' on drugs during his time on EastEnders Credit: BBC 6 Danny told of his 'dark' times on the BBC soap Credit: BBC 6 He is a proud dad of three Credit: Splash

Danny Dyer shares drugs bombshell after slamming EastEnders scripts
Danny Dyer has admitted he was 'off his nut' on prescription drugs during his time starring on EastEnders. Before joining the BBC soap, Danny was best known for appearing in films including Human Traffic, Mean Machine and The Football Factory. In 2013 he was cast as Mick Carter in EastEnders, a role he held until his character was killed off in 2022. A few years on, the 47-year-old actor has taken aim at the show whilst also detailing the personal struggles he faced during filming. During a charity night at the Wimbledon Football Club in South West London on Friday night, Danny didn't hold back. 'I was off my nut for a lot of that job. I was squinting a lot for a couple of years, a lot of Valium and Diazepam,' he told the audience when reflecting on his time on the soap. 'You have 30 pages a day you've got to learn. There's no f***ing about. You organically make the scene work, you rehearse nothing. It f***s your nut up. I ended up in rehab twice,' he added, as reported by The Sun. Danny also revealed he was banned from drinking alcohol in the Queen Vic and crew members even put antiseptic in the beer barrels to prevent him from doing so. 'When I first arrived on set I was slipping around the side and having a few lagers and they found out, so they started to put TCP into the beer. I wasn't off my nut. I had a drink every now and again,' he shared. The actor then criticised the show's 'dark' storylines before claiming he couldn't even find the time to attend events such as funeral's while working on EastEnders. 'You earn good money, but you ain't got time to go to a cashpoint. You have no life. The amount of birthdays I missed. If someone dies in your family they won't even let you go to the funeral. It's such a machine. There's not much duty of care. That's the truth. On EastEnders there is no messing about and you've got to do it. It's the hardest part of our job.' He also made digs at some of the storylines – calling Mick's romance with Janine 'mental' and blasted the decision to kill off Lola (played by Danielle Harold) last year, which he called a 'waste'. Danny, who was believed to have been paid about £250,000 per year when he appeared on the soap, went on to say he thought A-list actors would 'crumble' if they worked on the show.' In a statement to Metro, a spokesperson for EastEnders said: 'We would never discuss an individual's private matters however, we do not recognise these claims. 'EastEnders has extremely robust and well established procedures in place to safeguard the welfare of everyone who works on the show.' Following Danny's comments, a source told the same publication that people who work on EastEnders would be 'baffled' by his claims and said it was an 'odd move' from the actor after he's previously said several times he'd like to return to the long-running series, which has been airing since 1985. On the upcoming episode of BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, Danny also revealed he only took the role of Mick because he 'had no money'. 'I had bailiffs [coming round], no-one would hire me and the more I'm doing these club appearances, the more drugs I'm taking, and drink, so I'm in this weird spiral,' he told the programme. Last month Danny spoke about once being kicked out by his wife Jo, whom he first started dating in 1992. More Trending During an episode of The Assembly, he was grilled about his wife taking control of his bank accounts. 'She controls everything now. She did kick me out because I was a p****. And she deserved better,' he revealed. 'Sometimes I would go out and get off my head, take drugs, and I wouldn't come home for three days. I had issues – I never wanted the party to end. She had every right to throw me out.' Got a story? His performances range from hard-hitting roles in The Football Factory and Mean Machine to his beloved character Mick Carter on BBC's EastEnders. Danny's career is noteworthy for its diversity. Now 47, Danny recently appeared in the film Marching Powder and is delving into a new television venture that explores his personal life. In ITV's The Assembly, he is among the celebrities who openly discuss their lives with interviewers who are autistic, neurodivergent, and/or learning disabled, in a setting where no subject is taboo. One poignant conversation topic covers Danny's relationship with his wife Joanne Mas. Let's delve into their longstanding union, reports OK! . Meeting at the tender age of 14, Danny and Joanne quickly became sweethearts . They started dating in 1992 and welcomed their first daughter, Dani, in 1996. Their relationship experienced some turbulence following their daughter's birth as they parted ways amid widespread media speculation due to infidelity rumours. Despite this, they rekindled their romance and expanded their family with the arrival of their second daughter Sunnie Jo in 2007 and a son named Arty in 2014. Joanne, previously a financial advisor prior to Danny's rise to fame, made a daring move by proposing to Danny on Valentine's Day in 2015. According to Danny, it was a gesture he "loved". Discussing her decision to pop the question, she previously divulged to HELLO! Magazine: "I've always wanted to marry Danny, and I decided that if I didn't get things moving, it would never happen. I never wanted to get married when the children were babies because I wanted to let my hair down and enjoy the day." In September 2016, Danny and Joanne exchanged vows in Hampshire amid family and friends, with their special moments captured by HELLO! Magazine. On their big day, Danny confided to the magazine: "To be standing here with the girl I grew up with - looking so beautiful in her wedding dress - that is a lovely thing. Jo is my best girl - the love of my life. Without her, I would be nothing." Danny and Joanne's trio of offspring have all stepped into the limelight, much like their father. Their eldest, Dani, 28, has particularly shone in her own right. She emerged victorious on Love Island in 2018 and also tested her mettle on Survival of the Fittest. Beyond reality TV, Dani has established herself as an influencer, collaborating with brands such as InTheStyle. Additionally, she co-hosts the podcast Live and Let Dyers with her dad. The 28-year-old has a son named Santiago from her previous relationship with Sammy Kimmence, and she's also mum to twin girls Star and Summer with her soon-to-be husband, West Ham United footballer Jarrod Bowen. She broke the news about their engagement in 2024. Meanwhile, Sunnie, who is now 18, regularly shares her passion for fashion and travel on social media, much like her elder sister. She has begun to accompany her famous father to red carpet events, including his most recent film premieres. Sunnie also made an appearance on ITV's Big Star's Little Star in 2015. The youngest member of the Dyer family, Arty, aged 10, has already had his first taste of acting. He starred alongside Danny in the film Marching Powder earlier this year. Danny has expressed his joy at being a devoted grandfather to Dani's children, sharing that he takes care of the three little ones when both Dani and Jarrod are away. In a previous interview on KISS FM, the EastEnders star said: "Dani's going to Germany, and so I've got all the grandkids. It'll be hard work trying to watch it with three kids under three in my house, a barking bulldog, a ten-year-old son, and a menopausal wife. Wish me luck, everyone, because that's a combination that, init."
