Meghalaya BSF launches ‘Operation Alert' along India-Bangladesh border
Shillong: Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier launched 'Operation Alert' along the India–Bangladesh border in Meghalaya from from Aug 10 to 16 to ensure foolproof security in the run-up to the Independence Day. The operation is being carried out in close coordination with the State Police and other law enforcement agencies. "The BSF has deployed additional troops in forward border locations and senior officers from the Frontier Headquarters and Sector Headquarters have moved to the border and are supervising the operation," a statement issued by the BSF Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters here said on Tuesday. "The operation involves intensified area domination, round-the-clock patrolling, surprise 'naka' checks and riverine patrols to plug gaps in the border. Special emphasis is placed on countering cattle smuggling, contraband movement, and illegal crossings. Vulnerable routes — both land and riverine — are under continuous surveillance through coordinated ground and water patrols, with night vision equipment and mobile patrol teams pressed into service," the BSF said. Inspector General, Frontier Headquarters, BSF Shillong, OP Upadhyay, who is presently in the border, said 'Operation Alert' reflects the force's "commitment to safeguarding national security during the festive season and preventing any disruption by inimical forces". BSF evacuates critical patient from remote Meghalaya village
Shillong: In a prompt and compassionate humanitarian effort, the Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, carried out a swift medical evacuation in Umkiang, a remote village along the India-Bangladesh border, reaffirming its commitment to the well-being of border residents, reports Manosh Das. "On Aug 1, at approximately 1330 hrs, the BSF camp at Umkiang received an urgent call from Dr Evergreen Khgongjoh of Primary Health Centre Umkiang regarding a critical medical emergency. A 24-year-old local woman was experiencing severe labour pain and required immediate medical attention," the BSF said in a statement. "Responding without delay, troops of 172 Bn, BSF Meghalaya, dispatched an ambulance along with a trained nursing assistant to the location. The patient was swiftly evacuated to Jowai Civil Hospital, where she received timely and necessary medical care," the BSF said. "The efficient and humane response by BSF personnel highlights their unwavering dedication to the service and welfare of the border population," the statement issued by the BSF, Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters, here said. Forces foil contraband & cattle smuggling attempts, seize items over 3 lakh
Shillong: Based on intelligence inputs, the BSF, in collaboration with local police, apprehended two Indian nationals and seized two vehicles, laden with contraband items worth over Rs 3 lakh, in East Khasi Hills district on Friday. The items were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh, reports Manosh Das. "BSF personnel apprehended the individuals and seized both the vehicles and the contraband. The apprehended individuals, along with the seized items, were handed over to the Danger police post for further legal action," a release issued by Meghalaya Frontier of the BSF said. In another operation, the BSF foiled a cattle smuggling attempt by rescuing 12 cattle heads near the India-Bangladesh border. According to the BSF, these cattle were loaded onto two vehicles and were being transported by road to the border area.

BSF in Meghalaya ‘relentless' in securing Indo-Bangla border
Shillong: The Border Security Force , Meghalaya Frontier, on Thursday said it has achieved 'notable success' in its 'relentless efforts' to secure the India-Bangladesh border, enhancing security and combating cross-border crimes . "To ensure effective border management, BSF Meghalaya continued its close coordination with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) through field Commander-level meetings to resolve border-related issues, enhance mutual trust, and raise concerns regarding infiltration, smuggling routes, and the movement of criminal elements," the BSF Meghalaya Frontier headquarters here said in a statement. "During the first quarter of this year, BSF troops apprehended several individuals involved in illegal cross-border activities, including 78 Bangladeshi nationals and 37 Indian nationals, for their involvement in smuggling and infiltration attempts," the statement said. The BSF said it was combating infiltration and smuggling networks, 'in spite many constraints' as vigilant BSF personnel successfully foiled multiple infiltration attempts and apprehended six touts involved in facilitating cross-border movements which further helped police and law enforcement agencies to take action. "During the period, BSF Meghalaya conducted numerous anti-smuggling operations, resulting in the seizure of contraband items and 750 cattle worth approximately Rs 11.70 crores...," the BSF said.
