Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new Netflix deal is another humiliating blow for much-maligned royal exiles

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are extending their Netflix partnership, but we hear their new contract is 'much' less than their previous '$100 million deal' with the streaming company. 'It's not much,' an insider told Page Six on Monday. 'It's no risk for Netflix but saves them both reputationally.' Reps for the couple did not immediately respond to Page Six's requests for comment. Harry and Markle's company, Archewell Productions, and Netflix announced Monday that the couple agreed to a new first-look deal ahead of their current contract ending in September. Under the new deal, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will still have to run their ideas by Netflix. From there, the streaming service will decide whether it wants to obtain project rights to the duo's pitches. Viewers can expect to see an expansion of Markle's lifestyle brand, As Ever, grow on the big screen. Season 2 of her Netflix series, 'With Love, Meghan,' is set to be released in late August, a press release obtained by Page Six Monday revealed. The 'Suits' alum will also be releasing a special 'With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration' episode in December, featuring 'holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy' with 'friends and family.' Later this year, a short documentary — titled 'Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within' and produced by Markle and Harry — will also be released, highlighting a small orphanage in Uganda, where 'children transform hardship into joy, dancing their way toward healing, belonging, and the promise of a brighter future.' Other Archewell Productions projects in development with Netflix include an adaptation of Carley Fortune's book, 'Meet Me at the Lake.' 'We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As ever brand,' the actress wrote in a statement obtained by Page Six. 'My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.' In a separate statement, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, said that the company looks forward to being able to 'entertain [their] members together.' 'Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere,' the businesswoman wrote, referring to the couple's 2022 'Harry & Meghan' series, which 'gave viewers an intimate look into their lives and quickly became one of [Netflix's] most-watched documentary series.' 'More recently, fans have been inspired by 'With Love, Meghan,' with products from the new As Ever line consistently selling out in record time.' Last month, Page Six exclusively reported that Harry and Meghan were continuing their partnership with Netflix. Industry experts had previously informed us that the company's CEO, Ted Sarandos, is a huge fan of the royals and dines with them regularly. The duo first began working with Netflix in 2020 under an alleged $100 million deal, which Page Six reported was closer to $20 million. Their debut series in December 2022, 'Harry & Meghan,' garnered 23.4 million views in the first four days, while 'With Love, Meghan,' reached '5.3M views in the first half of 2025' and became 'Netflix's most-watched culinary show since its release,' per a press release. Other TV projects Harry and Meghan have released over the years include 'Live to Lead,' 'Heart of Invictus' and 'Polo.' Solve the daily Crossword

‘They're starting to pull back and are less committed to her brand': Netflix ‘don't know what to do' with Meghan Markle

Netflix are reportedly 'slowly pulling back' from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry despite agreeing to a new 'first look' deal with the Sussexes. The Sussexes recently rolled over to a new 'first look' deal with the streaming giant following the expiration of their five year, $100 million contract. That contract produced the wildly popular Harry and Meghan 'docu-series' spilling royal secrets, but subsequent projects like Polo disappeared without a trace. Under the terms of the updated deal, Netflix has first run at any Sussex projects in the pipeline but is under no obligation to green light or fund Harry and Meghan's ideas. Celebrity chef Jameson Stocks, who said earlier this year that he declined an offer to work on Markle's cooking series, believes Netflix will struggle to utilise the Sussexes. 'I think Netflix will get to a point where they won't know what to do with her anymore and she might end up in an office job at Netflix headquarters,' he told the Express newspaper on Thursday. The TV chef also speculated that Meghan's decision to focus on the cooking and lifestyle space may end up limiting her career prospects. 'She won't stray from cooking, and Netflix along with other investors have invested heavily in her and her lifestyle brand (As Ever),' he said. 'Netflix's recent temporary contract extension, which is paid per show, suggests they're starting to pull back and are less committed to her brand than they were a few years ago. 'It seems to me that Netflix is placing a few more bets now, hoping to recover some of the money they've lost…. Netflix are a powerhouse, they can take the hit financially.' The warning comes after Netflix dropped the 'season two' trailer for With Love, Meghan. In the trailer, Markle showed a glimpse of her upcoming celebrity guests, including the likes of celebrity guru Jay Shetty and model Chrissy Teigen. While the timing of the trailer appeared to show the streamer's confidence in the Duchess of Sussex, those episodes were actually already in the can and were shot back-to-back with the first season last year. It is understood the first original project under the Sussexes' new deal will be a Christmas-themed special entitled With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration.

The Sussexes' described the deal as 'extending their creative partnership' with the streaming platform. ‌ After weeks of speculation over their future with the streaming giant, Harry and Meghan's new deal means Netflix will have the first option on their new projects. However, it has been described as a 'downgrade' on their previous multi-million dollar exclusive deal. ‌ In 2020, the Sussexes signed a lucrative contract with Netflix, reported to be worth more than $100m (£74m). The deal ultimately led to the creation of the couple's controversial docuseries, Harry & Meghan, in which they were highly critical of the Royal Family. If you can't see the poll below, click here. ‌ The series ultimately became one of Netflix's most watched documentaries of all time. However, Harry and Meghan's more recent projects, such as Harry's series on Polo and Meghan's cookery show, have struggled to bring in anywhere near to the same amount of numbers. Released back in March, Meghan's latest show - With Love, Meghan - failed to break into the top 300 most-watched shows on Netflix in the first half of 2025. The lifestyle TV series, in which the Duchess of Sussex invites friends and family to a California estate, was also slammed by many critics. ‌ Only Meghan spoke out on the announcement of the new deal, describing how she and Harry feel 'inspired' by their streaming platform partners, who "share their vision". However, the Sussexes detailed several new projects that viewers will soon be able to watch. Season 2 of With Love, Meghan is set for release later this month, as Meghan returns to screens with a "fun and heartwarming new season of her lifestyle show, welcoming celebrity chefs, talented artists, and beloved friends for hands-on adventures filled with laughter and discovery. ‌ "From playful cooking challenges to DIY projects, Meghan and her guests will explore bold flavours, experiment with new techniques, and discover simple ways to add beauty to everyday life."
